[ Answering a question with another question just so happens to be one of Claude's favorite techniques for avoiding something, so he recognizes the medicine seller doing the same almost immediately. Which - suits him fine, truthfully. It's not like he can really expect anyone to turn over everything about themselves right away, not to mention he isn't planning on doing the same any time soon.

So he just nods in response to gods being fickle because they are, if what he's seen is anything to go by, and it's why he generally chooses to not believe in them. Better to decide one's own fate yourself, if you can.

But the proclamation that the medicine seller isn't a person? Claude raises an eyebrow at that. It's difficult to not think of what he knows from home: where when someone isn't a person as they appear, it's because they are some mystical being. The trick with the mirror, the list of wares - hard to not believe the opposite might be true of whatever the medicine seller says about himself. ]

Seems like that would make it pretty tricky to keep your inventory updated with what to sell. [ Meant as a harmless joke, truly, and he follows that up with a smile to show it, that not even a vague insult is meant with those words. ] Does that mean it changes wherever you go, all for whoever you might come across?

[ Interesting to contemplate: when what's for sale tells a story about the buyer that can't be seen on the surface. Much like the cards seeming innocuous, right up until they form a story whispered between the pictures for only the medicine seller to hear. ]

And do you collect things yourself, then? If so, I have nothing to offer now - which you've probably guessed - but when I do, I'll be sure to repay you with it.
