Leaving out cannibalism is probably for the best, all things considered. Clarke is just barely hanging onto her sanity as it is while she tries to work out what the odds are that more than a handful of people had made it out. Cryosleep wasn't impossible if they had the technology, but could they have lucked into a ship capable of supporting everyone left alive on the ground?

"How big a mining ship? How many of us were left?"

She scans his expression for any telltale signs of holding the worst back. What would even be the worst? That her mother was dead? That all of those in the bunker were dead? That there was no telling if they'd ever actually reach this so-called Sanctum?
