Leaving out cannibalism is probably for the best, all things considered. Clarke is just barely hanging onto her sanity as it is while she tries to work out what the odds are that more than a handful of people had made it out. Cryosleep wasn't impossible if they had the technology, but could they have lucked into a ship capable of supporting everyone left alive on the ground?
