assembles: (and be sad)

son????

[ As soon as the sparring match starts, Steve's transfixed. He's never seen anyone other than Sam (and to a lesser extent, Bucky) use a shield in a fight like this. It's so much like looking in a mirror, and he's even able to identify specific moves that he relies on when he's in a scuffle of his own.

It's not quite the same, but that's mainly because the shield isn't quite right. It's close enough that he's at a loss about this kid and where he might have come from. Is it just some bizarre coincidence, that they picked up such a strange fighting style completely independent of each other?

The only other reasonable explanation he can come up with is that he's some sort of Captain America super-fan, and that's...

Possibly confirmed, when the spar ends and the kid spots him and drops the shield, going white as a sheet. Even then, this doesn't seem like the reaction of someone meeting their hero. It's more like the kid's seen a ghost.

Steve knows that his death isn't that far off, at least in the current timeline. Which makes this that much more unsettling. He finds himself in a staring contest with the kid, who eventually looks away to pick up the shield. Steve closes the distance between them, not even sure where to start.

When all else fails, keep it simple. ]
Hey — you all right?
