EVENT #12: ABDUCTION VOLUNTEERS
To keep it short, we're looking for some volunteers to be abducted.
Though we're sure you're all excited to be whisked away, characters who are not captured will have the chance to adventure, save the day (and/or find trouble while doing so), participate in morally questionable acts to rescue their friends (including performing interrogations and taking missions outside faction borders), earn influence and rewards, and receive lore. We promise there will be plenty of exciting opportunities to engage with the game on both sides.
Sign-ups close February 15th @ 11:59 ET.
Players can only volunteer one character in their roster for now. If the number of volunteers is low, we may adjust the criteria.
Narratively, it's unlikely the perpetrators will target such high-profile Summoned. OOC, we want to be sure we rotate "incidents" between high and low ranks to keep things fair! Since high-rank characters had the delegate opportunity and were the target of a significant attack during the Nocwich event, we've decided to switch things around this time.
In exchange, Rank 6+ characters will have unique opportunities during the event. They'll have the chance to:
◎ Use their influence to solicit any powerful connections they've made, including Nocwich officials, local faction officials, and moreFurthermore, if you have additional characters who are eligible to be abducted, we encourage you to sign up with those characters instead if you'd like to participate in that aspect of the event!
◎ Take on or be assigned leadership roles to help progress the plot, either of their own volition or requested by faction officials
◎ Being separated from everyone who remains behind for the majority of the event. The Horizon may not be easily accessible during this time, and the network may be unstable. Characters will not be divided by faction and will not be in cells. Everyone will be confined in the same area together, with chances to spread out and interact with each other. Captivity will be focused on survival and horror elements rather than strict confinement. Fighting each other and/or killing NPCs will be possible. You will not be in this area for the full duration of the event. Opportunities to move locations will arise.
◎ Experiences such as fighting or injuring other player characters (potentially against the character's own will), survivalist situations, physical trauma, moderate body horror, experiments, monster encounters, images containing horror themes (blood, mild gore, death), and similar. Not everything listed will be applicable, but these are the types of themes we anticipate may arise. Although we'll do our best to provide opt-outs, we can't guarantee this for all aspects. Please be okay with putting your character through a rough time, and interacting with unsettling images and content.
◎ Characters who are captured will not have their full powers while held, but they will have some remnants. Like their connection to the Horizon, they won't be cut off completely, but they'll find their powers are weak or unstable, enough that it's more of a hindrance than a help. There may be opportunities to regain their powers - or even new (temporary) powers - during the event as the plot evolves.
◎ Negotiations, infiltration, and investigating clues, as well as questioning witnesses or interrogating prisoners - with the potential to use unsavory and/or violent tactics if characters so choose. Naturally, not every character will agree on the same approach. It'll be up to the Summoned to work together or against each other, and conflict could arise between characters as they confront each other's different attitudes about what's necessary and what's acceptable.
◎ Adventuring, encountering monsters, and tactical planning for those who are action-oriented, including an opportunity to travel outside of faction borders on scouting and/or rescue missions, as well as potentially collaborate with characters from opposing factions. While unsettling images and content may arise in this group, there will be more room to opt out or avoid interaction with it.
◎ Critical support such as healing, scientific aid, magical assistance, and more. Players are invited to offer IC ideas, suggestions, and anything they wish that they feel will help with the situation - we'll do our best to incorporate and workshop all plot suggestions.
The deadline is February 15th @ 11:59 ET.
We will determine all assignments before then so that you'll know what role you have when the OOC Plotting Post goes up.

What aspects described in the abduction scenario interests you?
Tell us what you read in the write-up above that drew you to volunteer! We'd like to know which parts attracted you or that you might be looking forward to most and where you're hoping to take your character through it.
Are you okay with sitting out if there are too many volunteers or would you prefer RNG?
This option is for anyone who's on the fence about being abducted and would be happy with either role. If you answer Yes, we'll reassign you as needed. If you answer RNG, we'll use RNG if required to determine your assignment.
Do you have an alternate character in another faction you want to volunteer?
For players who have another character in a different faction, you can name an alternate character to volunteer. We might assign this character the role instead if we can't accommodate your first choice. For example, if we don't have room for additional Solvunn volunteers, but we do have room in Thorne, we'll offer the assignment to your alternate character.
If after reading these you're still unsure about anything, or your question wasn't covered, please feel free to hit up our Questions thread below!
- How are characters taken?
- Characters will be taken from isolated areas such as the desert, dark alleyways, and similar. How this happens is up to you! We'll provide some guidelines on the OOC Post, but overall, as long as the result is that they're captured, characters can struggle, injure their captors, or even be caught alongside a friend or while helping a friend. Players will have the flexibility to dictate whatever scenario makes the most sense for their character.
- I'd like my character to be abducted, but my character is difficult to subdue. Is it still possible?
- Of course - the NPCs of this world have powerful magicks of their own. Being captured can happen in a variety of scenarios, and you're welcome to think of ways to make it feasible for your character to be caught.
- For how long will characters be abducted?
- About 1-2 weeks. Midway through the event, a plot to escape will arise. Not everyone will make it out, and those who choose to remain behind will remain captured for an additional 2 weeks.
- Will characters be confined and separated majority of the time?
- Characters will be confined in one area, but they won't be separated or isolated. The environment will have room for them to move around, interact in groups, and search around. There will also be opportunities to fight each other, attack NPCs, defend other prisoners, investigate escape routes, and more!
- Will we still be able to use the Horizon and network a little?
- Yes, the Horizon and network will be unstable, but not unusable. This is just to prevent characters from escaping into the Horizon for the majority of the event. Characters can still enter for a few minutes at a time on rare occasions to contact others. Messages sent through the network may have a "lost connection" or be missing words and phrases.
- What if my character isn't the type to fight others? What will the PvP aspect look like?
- There will be multiple options in which fights between characters can occur. While the setting and event will provide external motivations and influences for you to use to create conflict - including unnatural forces that might cause behavioral changes - ultimately, it will be between players to plot any confrontations, violent or otherwise, rather than NPCs or a third party forcing them to battle. We won't be actively moderating this aspect, but we'll be happy to perform any dice rolls as requested by players!
- If characters don't have their full powers, does that mean they still retain some aspects or are their powers completely gone?
- Powers will still be there in small amounts! Abilities will be limited and could be unstable, backfire, or fade in and out at random spurts. We'll leave the details up to players, but the idea is that abilities will work a little to keep it interesting, but characters shouldn't be able to easily overcome their situation or otherwise break the event. In some cases, their unstable powers might even be a hindrance. Please keep things realistic and fun for everyone!
- What will the escape look like? Will characters return home immediately?
- Nope! Characters who escape will be sent into an unknown environment to face some troubles before they can get to safety. Both options - staying behind and escaping - will give players a chance to engage with the plot in different ways.
- Will characters be allowed to plan their rescue and escape plans?
- Yes! We'll provide some guidelines and options to make both rescue and escape plans possible, but it'll be up to players and characters to determine the specifics. We'll also take into account how events are proceeding in-game as players continue to thread.
- How many slots are open for volunteers?
- There are no fixed slots. We'll determine the pool of players and their respective assignments once we take a look at the number of volunteers.
- Will characters who stay behind be able to work with the other factions?
- Yes, there will be opportunities to coordinate with the Summoned from other factions. While the three nations are suspicious of each other, the severity of this event may sway them to at least communicate with one another through the Summoned.
- What else can you tell us about the event?
- We'll reveal the full scope of the event itself soon! We're hoping the event will allow players the chance to engage in interesting confrontations or conflicts (with each other or the natives), be placed in a survival situation, uncover new lore and monsters, and make use of the connections they've forged in the world.
