"No internet? Nah, you really don't get used to it, but you mostly forget about it not bein' there, at least until there's somethin' you need to google. Besides, we have somethin' way better than the internet," she says, walking over to a display rack and thumbing through fabrics. "It's like the internet you'd see in future movies, where you're actually in it, and you can have anythin' in the world you can dream."

Clothing styles in the Free Cities are varied, especially by which actual city one might be in. In Cadens, it's somewhere at the crossroads of Victorian steampunk and industrial wild west, with a touch of both the fantastical and the military for flavor. Civilian clothes are more fussy than military uniforms, even in their most casual form. But the hat is optional.

"We have our own version of textin'. It's not the exact same, but it's close." Her voice drops inside, where the shop attendant greets Julie by name. She pulls a waist cincher with elaborate detailing out and looks closely at it as she speaks. "Plus, some of the folks from other, non-Earth worlds all got addicted to frappuccinos, so one of 'em invented the blender so they could make 'em here too."
