Thorne: Cupcakes
[ Waking up in an unfamiliar place, far from home, surrounded by strangers, isn't exactly Nina's idea of a grand time. This certainly doesn't make up for it - but at least it gentles the discomfort a little bit. ]

Oh.

[ She sighs in ecstasy as she takes another bite of the prize-winning cake. And, because she is a delicate lady with delicate manners, she swallows (most of) that bite before she speaks to the pastry chef responsible for this masterpiece: ]

Usually something this pretty tastes absolutely horrible. But this is - Mm! What's the herb in here - oh, it's lavender, isn't it? Wonderful! But it's so beautiful to look at that it almost breaks my heart to eat it.

[ A patently insincere sentiment: as she eats another hunk of cake, her eyes glitter with avarice, not grief. And then she turns to the person beside her and says: ]

Have you tried this? It might actually complete you as a person. I think it's making me more spiritually whole.

Thorne: Magic lessons
[ Nina attends magic lessons quite assiduously, of course. And, no great surprise, she excels immediately. It tickles her a bit that they call this magic, when it's clearly a science like any other, but that's a sentiment she keeps to herself; it's clear enough that the people here like thinking of this as part of a great mystical tradition, and she's not going to borrow trouble by challenging that viewpoint.

But skill at the Small Science lends itself to understanding this science. So, within only a few lessons, she's mastered the shield of light (smiling wonderingly on the first day to herself to think that she's wielding something like Sankta Alina's power in her hands). And she sits with it firmly in place, watching the students who are struggling with something that's maybe a little smug. ]

Nocwich: Various
[ Upon first arriving in Nocwich, Nina feels uncomfortable. The eternal gloom that shrouds the place feels eerie - maybe even dangerous. But you know what really helps with a place making you uncomfortable? Finding out that place has a glorious set of hot springs and a full spa with tea and really fluffy towels. Who can worry about a volcra hiding out there in the dark when they're immersed to their chin in hot water?

Nina can be found cheerfully naked in the hot springs. She can be found also sorting through the trinkets at the market, wrinkling her brow in confusion as she tries to figure out what exactly the liquid in this necklace is. And she can be found watching the plays, head cocked in concentration as she considers what she might glean about the people who wrote it. ]
