[What Michael isn't saying--or doing--is just as important as what he is, which Gabriel is keeping in mind as he tries to figure out just how unimpressed with this whole situation his brother actually is. He's pretty sure at this point that there's no threat here, at least not without some sort of additional reason, and that's really about as much as he could hope for. This reunion's probably just as much of a confusing shock for Michael as it is for Gabriel.
The rambling about practicalities is another good sign, even if some of it's a little worrying, like the remark about not being able to leave the commune. He's about to ask further about that part, but then Michael drops that last comment, and of course he has to ask first--]
