sleepfan: (Leaving Now)

Thorne is full of mages; magic is not a particularly rare skill set. Therefore it is worth less in trade.

[Which would mean more effort for less return. Linhardt prefers to be efficient with his time. He'll need to find something that he can 'charge' more for.

When Claude rolls his eyes, Linhardt looks at him in confusion. Why? He hadn't said anything that would warrant it... but then Claude speaks. Oh. Often, Linhardt wishes people were like math or magic: both of them had very clear success and failure states. People did not.]

I meant that it would be beneficial for me to have someone to speak to in Thorne that would offer context to what we experience there. So far I only have what is at best biased information and at worst propaganda. You value getting to the truth of things from what I remember of you, so unlike the other Summoned, if I speak to this Kyle person I can trust that he will be more objective. You're not in Thorne.

[However, if Claude wants to discuss the matter of his trustworthiness, Linhardt sees no reason not to.]

Trust is a spectrum. I trust you more than most of the other Summoned, but not completely. I believe you when you say you will not withhold information about our situation because we have a mutual interest in learning about what is going on so we can act accordingly. And just as I consider you more trustworthy because I have some idea of your character and how you act in times of crisis, I'd assume that you feel similarly if I was worth gathering information on.

[Linhardt is a relatively known quality compared to Summoned from other worlds, but he expects Claude has more knowledge of Edelgard, Hubert, and Ferdinand. Leaders have to be judicious with their time.]

I also think you are very deliberate with your words and you specified you won't withhold information on Abraxas for a reason, and that may mean you will withhold about Fodlan. I find that deeply annoying and irritating but it is to be expected from those of you who care about politics.

[Somewhere in Linhardt's head, Hubert's eye is twitching: "You can't tell people you don't trust them."]

I also find it deeply disappointing as I was under the impression you were an intelligent man. And personally frustrating: There are things I want to share with you about Fodlan but I am not interested in an inequal exchange or creating a precedent where I do not benefit from our association. At the same time, what I want to share would save lives so I am not certain what should take priority.

[There. That's all he has to say, and it's truthful. Linhardt doesn't mind sharing information with Claude, but it not going both ways will bother him because it places him in a subordinate position and he refuses that.]

Assuming we know if Yuri is here. He strikes me as the kind of person to watch for a long time before acting.

I can fill in many of the books in Abyss, yes.

[Linhardt sighs.]

If only Monica were here. You wouldn't be aware, but she had a perfect memory. I hated that about her.

[Arguing with her had been infuriating; usually Linhardt could talk his way into things by bringing in information other people wouldn't have, but Monica remembered everything. She was impossible.]
