[ It's an ugly truth, that not only were they brought here against their wills but because those who brought them here hoped to use them for their own means, whatever those end up being. That Linhardt says he'll keep it in mind gets a brief lift of one corner of Claude's mouth in something which isn't a smile proper but is close enough when it comes to offering an acknowledgement of that. Hopefully it'll serve as a warning even for whatever Linhardt gets into since Claude's positive there's no shortage of potential puzzles, problems, and whatever else to solve.

That lift of his mouth rises a little higher, however, at the question about why Linhardt would've turned work in. Why indeed; it was a thought that'd crossed his own mind several times while writing up something about some strategy or another potential battle plan when he knew that Teach knew he knew what he was doing. Maybe for entertainment's sake since the blunt notes he received back were almost worth putting the effort into the work - or more realistically, it was just another way to keep prodding and testing. ]

Hubert being nosy. I couldn't possibly picture that.

[ Incredibly dryly, as if this wasn't something well-known when it came to Hubert needing to be involved in everything. Of course, this is also more or less holding a mirror up and examining his own expression. Whatever remark Claude was about to make about Ferdinand - yet another easy target for a joke - is forgotten as he stares at Linhardt for a moment, trying to figure out if he's serious. ]

I don't know of the nations here killing anyone. Not who was Summoned, anyway, but. [ Claude furrows his brow in a frown for a second, considering. ] In the same breath, I've never heard anything from anyone about the explanation of what happens when someone disappears. When Felix, Marianne, and Petra did, it was like... it was like they'd never been here at all.

[ There's no time to consider that for long since at the mention that he and Hilda could be from different timelines, Claude stills. That's a thought he's had before, but to hear it voiced so casually - well. It feels more foreboding, and upon realizing he's gone a bit too quiet he hums a tuneless note to signify he's thinking under the guise of resettling in the spring's water again. ]

I suppose you're right about both how many timelines there are and whether the changes are even in Fodlan. [ A heavy thought, but Claude continues on as if they're discussing the weather. ] Perhaps there's one where Faerghus doesn't claim part of Sreng, the Empire doesn't triumph over Brigid, and where the Alliance falls to Almyra. All of those are just as possible.
