[Alice really is striking out with this woman, huh. She doesn't press the issue, instead tucking the napkin away and leaving it alone. There are any number of very good reasons to refuse the gift--pride, a lack of trust, a lack of need, feeling as others need it more--but it feels invasive to try and figure out which it is. This conversation has been awkward enough without her intentionally making things worse.
