"You're right. I'm sorry." His ears stay back as he apologizes, genuine remorse in his averted eyes. He'd do it again, and he hates that about himself, but Haru is right that he'd hurt her and she deserves better. She's always been good to him, and he's given her precious little in return.
And of course she pushes away his offer of help. She always does, doesn't she? Except this time it isn't money she's rejecting, and this time she's suffering an indignity he can't bear to do nothing about. Not after he was prepared to do nothing when she was due to die, and it took a carnivore of all people to call him out for his cowardice, for his complete and utter weakness. Louis had seen no solution but to just go along with the mayor's wishes, because he couldn't conceive of being able to do anything all by himself. But Legoshi could. That's why Legoshi saved her. That's why he's a hero.
"I won't get into trouble." It's only a little bit of a lie. He doesn't know how easily he can get into trouble or not, but Haru is worth getting into trouble for. He was foolish not to see that before. "But you'll get out of that cell, one way or another. You'll see."
He can't leave another loved one in a cell. Not again.
His ears twitch when she asks about Legoshi. His eyes soften. "No. I haven't seen him anywhere. I haven't smelled him, either." Not that his sense of smell is even half as sensitive as Legoshi's, but he's familiar enough with Legoshi's scent that he thinks he'd catch it in the library or in the cafeteria. He hasn't been able to. "We should be glad. It means he's still in our world." Louis isn't glad. He's selfish that way.
