EVENT #17: EPULUM - COORDINATION POST

Event #17 - Coordination
This post is for coordination while the event is ongoing, to prevent the IC Event Log from being overrun by OOC mod and player communications. The comments section will contain applicable comments and forms for you to reply to as needed.

Use this post to:
◎ Contact the mods
◎ Submit your suspected culprit
◎ Investigate the crime or track ongoing investigations
◎ Submit noticeable actions
◎ Write rapid IC exchanges
Available Forms
For details on each form, see the sections below.
Be sure to reply under the applicable category as required.
Mod Communications
If you have any questions about the limits or scope of what you can do before you formalize it in an investigation, you can go over the details with us here. You can also submit the suspect to Celeste under the appropriate heading. Submitting the name of the suspect is not required to complete the mystery, but doing so may contribute to whether the suspect is caught or escapes.

If you have questions about non-investigative aspects of the event, see the Questions thread on the OOC Plotting Post.

Investigations
To leave opportunities for others, please limit the scope of your actions per submission. For example, if you'd like to test a key, you must specify a narrow set of locks in a particular section. Additionally, while there are no strict limits on how many investigations you can be involved in, we do ask that you try to stagger them a little to help us keep pace.

You can investigate something multiple times as long as it makes sense for your character to try again. This includes following up with witnesses if characters learn new information. To investigate, fill out the form, then comment under the item you're investigating.

Investigate a witness, scene, or evidence

IC Exchanges
Use this option if you have an interaction you'd like to play out, but setting up a standard IC thread would be impracticable. For example, if your character wants to speak to several people about a piece of evidence, you might want to do an IC exchange. IC exchanges can take place in the real world or the Horizon.

Treat this like an informal IC network thread done in person, where character reactions, snippets of dialogue, and other details can be quickly played out and concluded in-game without committing to a full log thread. Exchanges are game canon, and can count towards Activity Check under the category of a Network thread.

Start an IC exchange

Using the provided form is optional. Begin a thread freeform if you prefer.

Notable Actions
Submit any notable actions that are likely to gain attention from other players such as fights or disturbances.

Submit a notable action

I will admit I don't have a direct line of communication with birds, but I think I managed doing so through a bit of a loophole. Retha's lovely bird seems to have witnessed the breaking of the Drowning Maiden's tank, and attributed the crime to "the one with many faces." Now, to me, this sounds like one of two things: either the very strange title of a minor god, or... well, I suppose one could attribute the name to the Drowning Maiden herself, if one counts a skull as a face.

Or, perhaps, someone else wearing multiple masks. Has anyone seen someone who would match such a description?

To be honest, I'm not sure how important such a thing is, but I admit I am very intrigued by it.

Some people act one way around one person and another around others. They seek to please, or to be trusted. They say different things to different people. Mayhaps it is a person like that — someone who lies to almost everyone.

With the skulls and the masks about, it is harder to say.

Considering this information is from an actual bird, my friend, I think the meaning is much more literal.

A fair point. It probably thinks mostly of worms.

Do any of the other mummers wear a lot of masks when they put on a show?

I have only noticed the Drowning Maiden herself to have several masks at the same time, but that does not set aside the chance it speaks to someone who has switched masks, if such a clue is to be taken literally.

this will be a private network message sent later

[ Kahlil reads this later when he's sorting through the mess of notes. After some pause he'll send a message - he's reluctant to do this kind of talk openly, but his name is attached. ]

This could be a coincidence, and I don't want it misconstrued as hard proof of involvement since the source is a bird. But there's a herald "of many faces" that we've encountered before. Sannleikr.

Ah, my illustrious interloper.

I have read upon it, though it was some time ago. A god would be fitting, I should think, because the deception inflicted upon the Drowning Maiden seems to have been the first drop of fuel to burn the rest of the night. It is only that their hands seem so... tame, for one so deposed towards chaos.

Not so many corpses with their eyes pecked out this time.

I'm not entirely convinced it's connected. But I did have a strange thing happen in my domain when they terrorizing the real world.

I was praying to my god, and a dessert with Sannleikr's symbol appeared. Some joke, I guess.

[ A strange sense of humor that time, and this time. ]

Ugh. Thankfully. It would ruin the decor.

A... dessert? As in, something like a cake?

...

Did you eat it?

[personal profile] ushiri 2024-03-07 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
No?

I threw it away.

[ As much as anyone can throw something away in Horizon. As far as he knows it didn't reappear like the mirror, at least. ]

Curiousity. I had to ask.

[personal profile] thedevilwhorose 2024-03-04 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I had wondered about Sannleikr's presence because of the Hall of Mirrors. The natives didn't undergo the same effects as the Summoned and Ikorr has no reason to invoke a god for their little sideshow act.

He had his masks, but there may be crossovers with others that the bird could be implying.

But I still have Sannleikr's lovely parting gift in my domain if that could be of any help as a conduit.

[someone has beef with Sannleikr so he will not opt for privacy]

[personal profile] cointosser 2024-03-04 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
An intriguing thought. My only reservation is that -- at least in my experience -- the mirrors did not tell untruths. Quite the opposite. However, I do agree there is some interference placed upon them, as they responded to us alone.

Another quirk of our connection to our beloved monolith, I assume.

So you don't believe that was our little -- friend, in the ashes? What trinket did this god leave you?

[personal profile] thedevilwhorose 2024-03-04 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Sannleikr's visuals were not 'untrue' either, at least for me. I didn't particularly poll the masses at the time.

No, I don't believe it's the same entity.

No, that's a fair distinction to make. I suppose I was "lucky" that I was afflicted by another god, that was no less adventurous.

They left a teacup behind, with poison inside. I imagine your gift is similar.

Unfortunately, I have not the heart to invoke any god like that, even in the Horizon. I'm sure there are more... adventurous chaps about.

Oh, forgive me, I didn't know you had family here. Both lucky and sorely unlucky. Though surely, if it works, you could just give them a hint of the god's power for all their ridicule?

I'm kidding, for the record.

Don't do that. Sannleikr sounds awful.
thedevilwhorose: » hallucination (so realistic so realistic)

[personal profile] thedevilwhorose 2024-03-07 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
More family than I'd expect.

Our Father is capital-G God which I know means nothing for your 'sphere' but is impossibly hard for any of us to swallow here. The thought of even attempting High Magic no matter the mixed results honestly is rather disgusting. The maggots were the clean part of that whole thing.

[That is a bit to take in -- he does understand somewhat, if this is related to what Nadine's told him about -- but only one question comes to mind:]

Why does it matter if the letter is a capital..?

Think of it like a hierarchy. He bore the universe. The rest came after, and like humans were just taking whatever scraps they saw fit.

Oh, I wasn't expecting a real answer. One of those one-god creation stories. Seems a bit nitpicky if you ask me, but I'm not here to disrespect one's beliefs.

Unless you're a lionheaded spider cultist. Awful people.

Wait.

Wait, sorry, what.

Lionheaded spider cultists?

What? Family story? You're -- right, one of those nutters.

I mean, it's exactly as you read it. Lionheaded spider cultists. They've a spot for all sorts of nasty stuff. Cannibalism, human sacrifice. Living in the sewers. Ugh! Image doing that willingly because a giant spider's told you to.
