Near the parade area, before it begins, there would've been a significant amount of bustle and chaos. The float centered around the Drowning Maiden seems peculiarly disorganized compared to the others. This is largely due to the fact that the performer playing the Drowning Maiden has been replaced at the last minute. Nobody seems clear on her name or where she came from. Retha Zepha sent her which is sufficient endorsement. Shortly after this, the tank will collapse and this part of the parade will fall apart.

This woman is a vampire. If Cadfael returns to try and look for her later or ask where she went, he will find no trace of her. She's completely vanished.
