Work in a stable, then?

[Jacob would laugh himself sick if he knew Percy thought he was the formal type, for what he sees as a casual form of address towards a stranger. He pets one of the horses, a hand going into his pocket to fish out some oats and let the horse have a go at them.]

Who's a good horse? You are.

[He's very appreciative of these horses, at least.]

I've climbed up Big Ben, it's got quite the awe-inspiring view. [Just casually admitting to that as he pets this horse, it's fine. He's aware, on some level, that he maybe shouldn't admit to also jumping off Big Ben, because other people don't tend to walk away from that so casually as he and Evie do.] I've not met the Queen yet, but my sister Evie has. Apparently Her Royal Majesty offered her cake.

[Unlike Percy, he's not joking, as casually as he's dropping all this into conversation. He just continues petting the horse.]

My American friend's from New York as well. He's never told me why he left, though I imagine it may be because there's quite a lot more happening in London than New York. [In 1868, London feels like the center of the world. Though that, perhaps, is Jacob's biases working against him here.] But I've really only been in London for much of the past year. Before that, Evie and I lived in Crawley.
