[ because luffy — separated from his crew, fished out of water that he'd been drowning in by mystery people and currently in a mystery location — knows his priorities. first, meat. then, trying to find his crew. for that, he needs to be able to think, and you just can't think on an empty stomach, can you? ]

[ if most people who have even a passing familiarity with one monkey d. luffy were asked what the least likely place to ever find him in would be, the answer would be unanimous: a library. luffy reading a book? a once-in-a-decade occasion.
however, that is precisely where he can be found, now: standing in front of a bookshelf, engaged in a shouting match with... the books? ]
That's not fair! You should be waiting until I've got my haki back! C'mon, book!
[ with that, he picks up the book lying by his feet, clearly having hit him just a few seconds ago... and he chucks it right back to the shelf.
the book flies back, immediately, and hits luffy on the side of the head. luffy, in retaliation, punches the book clean across the room. maybe, uh, look out? ]

[ now, this is something! the maritime fair has luffy bouncing from one decommissioned ship to another, exploring the cabins, eventually just sitting on the deck of one of the ships, looking far more at home than at any previous point during his enforced stay.
because this? this is home, to him, the memory of the sunny, of the wide ocean all around him, the smell of wood and salt and gunpowder. but it's also not, because it's not the sunny, and his crew isn't here, so it's not his, not in the way that matters.
