There's a small laugh at that. It escapes before he can stop it. "As long as I've retained a modicum of intelligence, I guess I'll take it." It's hard not to look for something when everything up until the point of realization is a mixture of resentment and pressure from the person you've aligned yourself with. He still doesn't trust his father or really anyone else.

Luke knows this is probably true, but there's something to be said for the possibility of this place not being real and being a creatively made place where Luke is forced to face the people he's wronged. Like Christian Hell or something.

"It could be psychological torment." But he probably doesn't have it half as bad as his mom. And he knows that her life's been a lot more complicated and problematic than his. He kind of wishes she were there to make him a peanut butter and jelly with a bag of cookies the way she used to, but he doesn't want her to be here either.
