EVENT #21: SPECTER - OOC POST

Event #21 - OOC Plotting
Last month, eerie occurrences began to surface across the territories. While unsettling, they were primarily harmless. As October arrives, however, the hauntings grow more dangerous, especially as the days lead to Eifstide.

Beginning OCTOBER 18 the whispers start to infect other aspects of the world: machines, tarot decks, mirrors...even within the fog. In smaller villages or outskirt towns, reports of sleepwalking arise - people who wander off towards the sea, the forest, or the desert. Some are barefoot while others are found in nightclothes as if in a daze.

The incidents are uncommon enough that they can be dismissed by most folks, especially as some of those affected might have a known history that could explain the strange behavior, such as a drinking habit or poor sleep. However, the Summoned will sense that something is genuinely off - since they, too, will have their own experiences.

Details as to how Eifstide is celebrated in each territory can be found under Autumn Festivals on the LORE page. Furthermore, Nocwich will be OPEN for this event.

Jump to section
Hauntings
The impact on the native population is low, as noted. There are certainly concerns and rumors, but characters won't find any mass deaths or large groups of people missing. Indeed, many of the troubles might be lost in the chaos of everything else going on including Eifstide festivities, high rates of crime, bandit attacks, and soldiers on patrol.

Nonetheless, it's undeniable that something's a bit odd and officials won't stop characters from looking into it if they have time. Territory leaders just won't have the time or resources to dedicate to a formal investigation.
Sharing Visions and/or Dreams
This event will be based on the concept of dreamsharing or vision sharing. It will be referred to collectively as hauntings for simplicity.

Hauntings will feel real. Characters will not be able to consciously dismiss what's happening as illusory or fake once they've escalated into full visions or nightmares. They can involve a scenario, a person, or fear, or a combination. Examples could be a harsh parent or a singular incident involving said parent. It could also be a failure to act during an important moment, a specific source of stress, or anything along those lines. You could also select something that troubles your character but isn't quite so world-endingly serious, such as a time they were late to an important meeting or were lost in a big store as a child.

Hauntings can manifest as:
A waking vision. Characters may hear whispers while going about their day or see flashes of visions in reflective surfaces like mirrors, water, or glass. The haunting may remain relatively mild or it may result in a full-blown hallucination that can envelope other characters nearby and draw them in. This can only take place in person. Nocwich is available if you wish to do something cross-territory.

A lucid dream. Characters may have dreams that are disrupted by strangely vivid images or memories. The haunting may remain relatively mild or it may result in a full-blown lucid dream that can envelope other characters who are asleep and draw them in. This can take place cross-territory regardless of where characters are located.
As players, you can describe the dream or vision however you want. Unlike a true memory share, a haunting does not need to refer to events precisely as they happened in canon, although it can if you like. Instead, you can use canon memories or fears to shape what your character sees and experiences. However, a haunting should be something that troubles your character - perhaps an event that they've been reluctant to acknowledge or face. The purpose is to confront this haunting, ideally with the help of someone else.

Additionally, hauntings:
◎ Can merge with each other. If one character enters another's hallucination or dream, aspects of each other's manifestations may blend together. This can be detrimental or helpful depending on how you decide to approach the scenario. The merge doesn't need to happen. A character may exist in another character's scenario exclusively.

◎ Be oddly pleasant to start with, almost like a lure. This may be the case in particular for characters who are normally prone to frightening dreams and wouldn't think twice if they continued to have nightmares. The pleasantness will slowly start to take on an uncanny aspect.

◎ Are not required to be explicitly terrifying or traumatizing. If your character has a common fear, such as heights or enclosed spaces, that's an option as well! Your character's worst haunting could simply be getting trapped in an elevator. How it escalates would depend on you. For instance, the elevator might be stuck in place or it might be freefalling endlessly. You could include a menacing mime from your character's childhood in the elevator. In other words, you're encouraged to get creative and do what feels most fun and meaningful.
Hauntings will last at most 1-2 hours and may be as brief as 10 minutes. Physically, characters will not be trapped for an extreme length of time. However, like many dreams or visions, it can feel longer than that if you wish.
Dispelling a Haunting
Once trapped, characters must free themselves by confronting the thing haunting them or their friend. They can do so using the boons received, which are detailed further in the section below. What boon they receive and how they use it is entirely up to you. Players are welcome to decide what best represents their character "freeing" themselves from something that's been weighing them down or holding them back. Some example approaches are:
◎ If your character is haunted by the guilt of getting someone they know killed, they may see that person as a monster that they must kill again with their own hand. Or, they may find a way to save that person and come to understand that the original circumstances were not their fault.

◎ You may also play with unreliable memories, i.e. if a character has often remembered something "incorrectly" due to feelings of inadequacy or guilt. In that case, you can use this event to have their character revisit the memory with another for an enlightening perspective.
Impact of Previous Choices
Last event, characters could counter, enhance, or remain neutral when facing the Heralds' afflictions. Depending on which category they ultimately fell under, their experiences while trapped within a "haunting" may differ.
◎ Characters who chose to counter the Heralds will see a symbol of their own Arcana and will receive a boon of a powerful or hopeful memory that they can either use to strengthen their resolve or share it with another character to strengthen theirs. The essence of this will be more protective.

◎ Characters who chose to enhance the Heralds will see a symbol of Zorne's Arcana (Justice) and will receive a boon of a violent or dark memory that they can either use to weaken the thing which haunts them or share it with another character to weaken what haunts the other person. The essence of this will be more aggressive.

◎ Characters who chose to remain neutral will not see any Arcana or boon on their own but will be able to match the boon their partner receives once it's been accepted. Characters who did not participate in the last event, including new characters, will default to "neutral."
Memories can manifest as: a weapon, a person, a monster, or an important object. It will disappear once used to dispel the vision or dream. Characters will not be able to keep the item.

For example, if a character has a powerful memory from their mother, they may manifest a protective charm that resembles a necklace that belonged to her. Or, they may manifest a "shade" of their mother altogether.
Other Events
If you would prefer that your character not undergo such intense experiences, or if you simply want to participate in additional and more lighthearted activities, the following options will be available throughout the event.
Mild Hauntings
Hauntings can remain mild. Mild hauntings would be limited to hearing voices, one or two cases of strange dreams, or seeing unusual flickers out of the corner of their eye.

Characters might equally find themselves reflecting on a particular event or memory that's bothering them and feel compelled to talk about it with another, without having to explicitly share it as above. You can use this to flavor more general interactions as your character explores the city and goes about their day.
Aiding the Locals
Characters can help locals who are exhibiting other behaviors that might put them in danger. They can retrieve sleepwalkers, patrol the woods to make sure no one's wandering off, or search for missing children. These scenarios will remain open-ended for players to come up with on their own based on the event.
Enjoy Eifstide & Nocwich
Eifstide will be celebrated as usual! Characters can go to parties, attend street festivals, and enjoy the various sweets and camaraderie around them. Since the hauntings are quite mild or easy to overlook where the locals are concerned, the majority of the population will be unaware and are happy to spend a few nights enjoying themselves and forgetting the war that's broken out.

Similarly, the Summoned can dive into the festivities and enjoy themselves, too. Of course, they could do both! If your character has finally freed themselves from a burden, they could certainly be inclined to find a drink and celebrate.

Nocwich will be open during the event! This means characters can go there for cross-territory interactions. Both Ikorr and Luna will be open, with portals in Oleuni Square leading to each city, so characters won't be limited to the Square alone. They'll be free to explore all of Nocwich as they like. Activities in Nocwich include a scavenger hunt and wreath-making. Characters can earn small gifts or tokens by participating.
Notes
Event Schedule
To allow room for players to get things started, the event post will be going up before the actual in-game date the event occurs.
The IN-GAME EVENT will ICly take place OCTOBER 16 - 31
The EVENT POST will go up OCTOBER 14 for players to participate in.
There is NO WRAP-UP POST. The event will naturally conclude as characters confront their various hauntings. We will be posting a PRELUDE instead in November.
Plotting Form
You can use the plotting form below to make plans.

Questions and Answers

If after reading these you're still unsure about anything, or your question wasn't covered, please feel free to hit up our Questions thread below!

What if I'm still not sure what category my character falls under?
Just pick what feels most right for them! You can even decide retroactively, when examining the options above if you're directly on the fence to see what you'd like to play with the most.
Will NPCs or the natives notice that the Summoned are behaving strangely?
Somewhat! How much they're noticed depends on the behavior your character exhibits. If they're walking around talking to themselves, that might attract some attention. If they're simply losing sleep, it's unlikely anyone will pay attention.
How many dreams and visions can my character experience or be drawn into?
As many as you want! You can do more than one haunting if you desire, though we recommend choosing one key event to address. We also recommend limiting the number of hauntings they're drawn into to avoid a situation where your character becomes effectively incapacitated in-game.
Can the event be something that happened in Abraxas instead of a canon memory?
Certainly! If your character has a recent experience that they must confront, which arose during their time in the game, that's perfectly acceptable.
What's causing this to happen in the first place?
It's unclear! There is no discernible cause that characters can find or "fix." Characters inclined to research may come upon myths or stories that suggest events of this nature (sleepwalking, hearing voices, frequent nightmares, etc.) occur in the wake of great violence or loss. It is possible the Summoned are experiencing a more powerful version due to their unique status and their shared "connection" together.
How do the boons really work?
You can consider the boons to be similar to a temporary magical weapon or a specter that manifests from an important memory, person, or moment for your character. How it looks and where it comes from is entirely up to you. It can also be entirely made up in appearance as a representation of a concept.
What about the Horizon?
When inside the Horizon, characters will experience the same thing! They can end up in domains they don't remember traveling to or see strange flickers in somebody's Horizon mirror.

Nebula 👾MCU 👾DEATH

[personal profile] furibund 2024-10-11 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Nebula
Territory: Solvunn

Choice: Counter

Boon:
I'm a little undecided! I will most likely go with different boons. Nebula doesn't have a lot of positive memories :') and I think it makes most sense for her to have a weapon. It will definitely be a memory of the guardians and a memory of reconciling with Gamora.... maybe a single boon of a perso nthat is, in fact, Gamora. I don't want her boon to always be a weapon though because her journey now isn't about being a weapon but about healing |b

Makes it her godself so she'll be mad - This is something I have to think more on!! And might change with discussion/person

Scenario:
I love Emotional Terrorism so I want to focus on the hauntings for this event! In particular for Nebula we know the one thing she struggles with is her weakness. This is something she can't accept in others and is afraid of - it's definitely a fear because being weak manifested in failure, torture, and replacement of a body part.

For that alone please know that any thread with Nebula will ultimately result in trigger warnings of child abuse/torture, emotional manipulation, and genocide.

BUT I THINK especially for a character like Nebula it's a really good way to unlock parts of who she is she doesn't really talk about. I think lucid dreams are the most interesting and I am happy to take people on an adventure;

The fear we'd be facing is how Nebula was taught that she was both too soft and too weak because her heart was naturally more softer at the start.

“Did you?” Thanos asked. “You were weak. Soft. You would have let Gamora live. Had the tables been turned, Gamora would not have hesitated to kill you. Let this be a lesson,” Thanos said over his shoulder as he walked away with Gamora, contentedly munching on the yaro root. “The universe is unfair. Cold. Unforgiving. You would do well to remember that.”

LITERALLY IT'S SUPPOSEDLY WHEN SHE WAS LIKE 5!!! So yeah Gunn has been very upfront that the thing that Nebula struggles with most is weakness and I would like to punch her in the face with it. It's time for some emotional character growth.

As a general rule I am going with her case(s) of hauntings will not be mild because she is haunted by great fears and things she will never forgive herself for that all stem back to being weak :')

For other characters, she is more likely to help if she knows them at least a little! But if she's dragged into someone else's dream she won't stand by. She'll be a tougher sort. Won't balk at whatever is there - most likely - and act as a grounding presence. As her journey now is about healing enough to heal others she Will try not to be a detriment and depending on who it is she can be incredibly gentle (most likely closer cr or children... or someone who's dream hits a lil too close to home).

General plans:
Admittedly, I want to focus on the more CR building/character growth aspects of the event that the Hauntings have to offer. ICly, Nebula won't super be into going to festivals and scavenger hunts but she will take the extra time they're given to go to Nocwich.

She might do something if a gift/token is good enough or take on a small job while there just because it's Different and Buying Stuff in Nocwich. She will 100% be more avoidant of people once things get underway (and possibly a lil more awkward).

If there is something OOCly you want to manage for your character!! My favorite thing is emotional terrorism and Nebula is Surprisingly Good at it when she tries so if you want someone to help out/do something please, I will help. Just understand she might be a little gruff and on edge.

Also judt because I didnt post to the CR meme know that i am always willing/open to all things

Re: Questions

[personal profile] floeing 2024-10-11 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Hello, mods! Are the in-person hallucinations only things that appear around the characters, or can they affect how the characters perceive themselves too? Like thinking they look different or, in Jack's case, thinking people is walking through him again.

Thank you.

Jonathan Crane | Free Cities

[personal profile] restingstitchface 2024-10-11 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Jonathan Crane
Territory: Free Cities

Choice: Crane encouraged influence so he will have a dark and violent memory.

Boon: Given how he hides his public persona from others, he will be gaining his mask. This afforded him the confidence to be aggressive and seek retribution by violent means.

Scenario: There will be several options, ranging from mild hallucinations to dark and painful memories. In particular, what Crane fears is people. He was a victim of severe bullying for whom psychiatry became an instruction manual. So be aware his memories will ultimately explore child abuse, intimidation and torture.

Crane keeps his memories private so this event is a fantastic way to explore a vulnerability he never reveals to others. His cold attitude is a defence mechanism so this event could enable your character to warm to him and build a relationship.

Notable people include:

His grandmother.
His mentor.
His teachers and peers.
His summoned associates.

Yes! Crane fears the Summoned because of past experiences - and yours can manifest as a twisted illusion during this event!

General plans:

Crane is haunted by his future. He craves the security and power he wielded in the pantheon but fears him as a separate individual in the present. That his reflection observes him from every mirror and window is marvellous for his mental stability. He will feel compelled to discuss this in person or face it in a lucid dream.

I will also be writing a festival prompt set at the end of the event for those who prefer something light and frothy.

Kaz Brekker | Grishaverse | Free Cities

[personal profile] bealufull 2024-10-11 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Kaz Brekker
Territory: Free Cities

Choice: Kaz ended up countering, working to help people from the influences. He's not even entirely conscious of doing it to counter, but because of how life is changing for him and how much he's working towards his emergence future.

Boon: This one I'm not sure about. I think it may come down to the memories. Most of the way Kaz sees his memories are not things that will save and protect him - but items certainly represent that. I warn that it's possible a spider would be one of them because it represents the one part of himself he's missing.

Scenario: Open to lighthearted or serious, and being part of his own or others or both. His own I'm looking to would involve water/drowning, blood, or being abandoned. Also so up for things involving physical contact with others, even if it's in a dream. Would love to work out things that might include both people's nightmares, in person or in dreams.

General plans: I will also do a festival prompt for him, likely post nightmares where things might be in better places and new steps taken.

Istredd | The Witcher | The High Priestess

[personal profile] magicalarchaeologist 2024-10-11 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Istredd
Territory: Thorne

Choice: He chose to counter so he'll have a powerful or hopeful memory option.

Boon: I'm not sure yet! I think it'll be either a leosylph (lol) or something from his god time.

Scenario: Istredd has two major memories that he would be haunted by and I think the first would be the coup at Thanedd where all of his people were slaughtered. While there he had a choice between fighting and going to get what he thought was more important, a book the bad guy wanted. By making that choice he got captured, rather than maybe surviving with Yennefer and others. That haunts him! Also something Pit-specific for in-Abraxas haunting. If your character never got to experience the Pit but wants to, I'll have that option! He will probably need people to help him with this, but I'll also have him go helping other people with his boon wherever possible.

General plans: I'm open to whatever, looking forward to it!
satanicpanics: (pic#15855539)

Eddie Munson | Solvunn

[personal profile] satanicpanics 2024-10-11 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Eddie Munson
Territory: Solvunn

Choice: Counter

Boon: Slams my hands down. HIS GUITAR. Taking on the form of a protective charm, obviously. And yes, he’ll be pissed he can’t keep it and you will never hear the end of it.

Scenario:
Okay, so I’m mostly kind of thinking out loud here and this could easily all change the minute I get writing a top level, but Eddie’s been here a long time and a lot of his main issues and traumas have really been soothed in that time. So I don’t really want to revisit them right now. BUT ever since the AU, he’s picked up a Brand New Fear in the form of abandonment.

And he has plenty of memories of abandonment! Mostly in the Eddie prequel book they released last year (it’s not great btw), but I’d like to play into a Theme. While they’re not big or flashy memories, I think I’ll play around with things like his dad constantly drifting in and out of his life (because daddy issues never leave you really) and his mom’s death. Might even throw some stuff from the AU event in because you were all very distant and he did not enjoy it and he's afraid it's going to happen for real.

Because I’m going with pretty mild hauntings, he’ll be available to help others out as well!

General plans: I didn’t post to the CR meme this time around, but I am open to all things, including the chill stuff too! I’ll probably throw him into some of the Eifstide stuff as well. Feel free to grab me over at [plurk.com profile] muttonchops for anything.

Hi hi! Couple of questions:

1) Will there be an official sign-up for boons, or is it loose-y goose-y?

2) How many nights in a row can characters stay in Nocwich before territories get like 'where u at'?

Thank you!

Jesper Fahey | Grishaverse

[personal profile] itookashot 2024-10-11 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Jesper Fahey
Territory: Free Cities

Choice: Jesper intentionally stayed neutral.

Boon: He won't have one but he can interact with other people's boons!

Scenario: I plan on Jesper mostly guest starring in other people's drama for this one rather than inspiring his own. Let him come talk your character down or help them through the angst!

General plans: Nothing else, just hyped.
monomachy: buckybear @ ij (bulletproof)

diana prince | dceu | the empress | free cities

[personal profile] monomachy 2024-10-11 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Diana Prince
Territory: The Free Cities

Choice: Counter

Boon: I'm thinking it will be an object--possibly Steve Trevor's watch or Antiope's tiara. There are a lot of important objects in her life, so it's up to be variable.

Scenario:

Check out my memshare page on Diana's journal! Notable scenarios will be:

-Beach Battle/Antiope's death
-Death in Veld
-Ares fight/Steve Trevor's death (I can provide YT clips for this, if needed)

Please note that these memories will come with cw's for themes of war, death, and loss. There is a lot of trauma there she hasn't dealt with or really acknowledged. Diana is especially going to see Ares and have a "what could have been" moment because she sees what time and pain did to him, and she'll wonder if the 800-year AU god she became is really who she's on her way to becoming. Doubt abounds!

General plans: I love memshare, let's get to know each other's worst moments :')

Character Name: Julia Wicker
Territory: Solvunn

Choice: Julia chose to counter so she'll have a powerful or hopeful memory option with a boon!

Boon: I think given Julia's whole jam it'll either be her dragon or a sword from her world. I may think of something else as I go!

Scenario: Julia has so much darkness in her past and I want to remind people of her opt-outs so that's all transparent. I will mark everything with her with very clear opt-outs and trigger warnings so I think most of what she'll be going through will be pretty harsh, so do not worry if you'd rather not engage with any of it. Otherwise she'll be helping other people so we always have that option!

General plans: Let's gooooo.

Alucard / Castlevania / Free Cities

[personal profile] cryptsleeper 2024-10-11 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Alucard
Territory: Castlevania

Choice: Neutral

Boon: Alucard will be given the morningstar used by Trevor Belmont in canon. As Alucard is not used to this kind of weapon or even fighting style, it will be a distinct problem for him.

Scenario: I am more interested in having Alucard help others, as the majority of his fears and traumas have been explored in the game so far. Moreover, I'd like to take this as a chance to build CR for folks where much of what they know about Al and vice versa is more than likely surface level, or otherwise deepen bonds that Alucard is already empathetic towards.

With that said, there is the possibility of revisiting the future-that-never-was with everyone's Godhood, as Alucard has found that becoming that upsets and scares him most. This could be in dialogue with his mother's murder as a witch by the Church in Wallachia, an event that he has not witnessed but has been deeply unsettled by. Alucard hasn't engaged with it in a meaningful manner at all, so it could be an excellent opportunity to do so if you'd rather explore these themes than have Alucard step in as a support.

General plans:
- Alucard will be excited to explore both Luna and Ikorr during the holiday, so if you're considering opting out of the event but want to have some adventures, I'm game for it!
- I'm more interested in Al breaking others out of their own hauntings, and I'd love to let him fail with his boon.
- I'm generally just here for the spookiness, so let's chat if you have further ideas or just want to do a mini-episode of What We Do in the Shadows.

[personal profile] durge 2024-10-11 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Haelva
Territory: Solvunn

Choice: Enhance
Boon: Object, Orin's Bloodthirst

Scenario: While I think it would be great for Haelva to help people with their hauntings, I'm also open for people to experience the memories that Haelva can't remember. Please check her permissions for what that might include. Some ideas include: Orin killing her/leaving her for dead, killing Astarion's Tav, various murder crimes as Bhaal's Chosen. THE SKY IS TRULY THE LIMIT. Yes please help overcome her problems, she still has some lingering doubts about her ability to truly escape her past/her blood.

General plans: Not ATM, but I'm open to everything and anything this month!

sebille | the free cities | the hanged man

[personal profile] preyed 2024-10-11 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Sebille Kaleran
Territory: The Free Cities

Choice: Neutral!

Boon: Likely 'Needle', which is a literal needle (it kind of looks gold in the game iirc) and was a gift from her 'Master' to use. Other forms might be a branch from a tree or her old dagger.

Scenario: I'm going to offer some overall options, which can range from mild hallucinations, just hearing things, or dreams. I'm going to leave the depth of each scenario if people choose to my writing partner based on your comfort! We can be as in depth as possible or not. I just really would like to speedrun some CR, especially for/among characters who are not as open to sharing things or being vulnerable (like Sebille)

1. Hearing the whistled song that controls Sebille's scar.
2. Encountering the people whom Sebille has killed (all elves, all allies she forgot because of her time as a slave), which can either be physical dream manifestations or just hearing their voices/screams of terror or when they died.
3. Actually encountering her former master, the Shadow Prince (who is a lizard man). This will likely just be a shadow.
4. Hearing/feeling the voice of the Mother Tree and her anger when Sebille left, so either physical feelings of being tripped up by nature or just an oppressive, angry feeling from family or someone you care for.
5. For the truly brave, seeing the literal coffin/box she was supposed to lay in while she was carted around outside of her dark room. This'll be case-by-case and can be lumped in with other things.
6. Literally any of the screwed up and weird things from Divinity: Original Sin 2 (so if you want monsters, or the Divine Order, etc) but this will be more about having to conquer these enemies 'alone' without her allies.

major cws: murder, blood, claustrophobia in a coffin/box, slavery, mind control.

I'm also open to Sebille just being somewhat more vocal about her past, what she's seeing/experiencing, to a fault.

General plans: Outside of all of that, Sebille will be spending more time in Nochwich learning of the plants in the forest, trying to make money helping the limited people affected by this, and stopping bandits if it's more than petty thievery. I'd love if people are going to the festivals and want to engage around getting her to relax and be "normal", this works too. Mostly, she's just getting her bearing in this world, so I'm open to everything and anything.

General note - I'm terrible at open top-levels but would love to make custom starters for people, and would prefer to tag in to YOU, so let me know how we can make your plans and mine jive together.

Sylvain | FE3H | The Sun

[personal profile] philancer 2024-10-11 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Sylvain Gautier
Territory: Free Cities

Choice: enhance >.>
Boon:
Considering this will be a violent/dark manifestation of Zorne's Arcana (as opposed to Sylvain's Sun) I'm thinking I'm going to just enhance his whole haunting experience and have his Relic weapon, the Lance of Ruin appear in all its creepy glory. Yes, it is crafted from the bones of a dragon. Yes, it still moves and writhes like it's still alive. The glowing red sphere lights up with his crest stone when the spear's magic is activated/channeled, but here it will either appear as that or a malevolent red eye watching you.

Scenario:
OH BOY, does he have a lot of memories to choose from to haunt him. But I think the biggest one - which he's had to struggle with a few times now in Abraxas (and really his whole life) - is his brother, and his guilt over their entire relationship, and his eventual death. The tl;dr of their backstory is:
CW: death, child abuse, implied body horror, general violence. Miklan was the firstborn, but Sylvain was born with a Crest, which immediately disinherited Miklan and replaced him with his younger brother, leaving Miklan with nothing and prompting a lifetime of hatred and resentment towards Sylvain. Sylvain never actually wanted his title and also couldn't hold his brother's hatred against him, even to the point of thinking he deserved it for having stolen everything from his older brother just by existing. Miklan tried to kill his younger brother many times throughout his childhood, leaving Sylvain with a lot of trauma - a situation only enflamed by their father pitting them against one another, believing it would "toughen up" his heir as he turned a blind eye to the worst of the abuses. This culminated on the murder attempts finally going to the point that they could no longer be ignored/brushed under the rug and Miklan being driven out of the family entirely. Years later, he returned to raze his way across the family lands to steal the family's sacred Relic (see above) as the proof that he was the more powerful and rightful heir and Sylvain was dispatched to stop him and retrieve the Lance. Only there's a reason only someone with a Crest can inherit - because only someone with a Crest can control the magic of the Relic. When Miklan unleashes its power on his brother, it instead consumes him, destroying every last bit of his humanity and transforming him into a massive black beast who only knows violence and rage. Sylvain is forced to slay it by his own hand - and with the very lance that had cursed this fate on both of them.
Needless to say, this is going to very easily haunt Sylvain for this event, as it has for almost all his life. While he's dealt with some of the trauma, some of the misbeliefs about himself and his brother, there is a lot of guilt, a lot of anger, a lot of grief, that he's never really come to terms with. Considering the way to dispel a haunting is to either kill the monster again with his own hand or find a way to save that person and come to understand that the original circumstances were not his fault, Sylvain's likely to lean towards the former (and may need to on various smaller hauntings, since I may play with previous murder attempts or terrible things that occurred between them before the Big Haunting being that final fight against the cursed beast) but would probably gain more relief and closure from the latter. I'm up to exploring either option though, although I would prefer for the 'saving' option to only be used once or twice and with close cr who would have the ability to sway him/talk him through it. He could definitely use some help, though.

I think I'll plan on him having a reappearance of his nightmares and some sleepwalking, so he could be found almost anywhere in Cadens (or possibly Nocwich) as the event builds for the Waking Vision portions - it's probably going to start with hearing Miklan's voice (or even Sylvain's father) or catching glimpses of Miklan in reflections or out of the corner of the eye. Him falling into a fullblown hallucination is likely, as the event goes on. The Lucid Dreaming will likely involve more of those old terrible memories that have caused his nightmares for most of his life already and I'm happy to plot out what you'd like to explore for these, I'll likely have a few options to choose from in his toplevel.

General plans:
I'm also not opposed to playing with some of the general Eifstide celebrations, either! His haunting is likely going to be pretty dark in itself so having some alternate lighthearted fun around the Free Cities or Nocwich would definitely be an option if that fits your needs better.

OH BOy I would love to do some kind of haunting-merge of their traumas since they have all the overlap, maybe with their past victims and/or fear of being locked in a coffin...

kaveh | free cities | the star

Character Name: Kaveh
Territory: Free Cities

Choice: Counter
Boon: Kaveh's boons will likely take several forms, primarily that of Mehrak or a stoic looking child. These memories are relatively happy, so people will get a look at Kaveh completing a project near and dear to him or, alternatively, a memory of him as a child in Super School with his best friend.

Scenario: Kaveh is better suited to helping other people, given that he's relatively newly arrived and his memories are pretty benign, all told. If they're of interest, however, he's got a few pretty significant memories: the first is watching his magnum opus crumble into nothingness and the despair surrounding that, and the second is his fight as a young man with Alhaitham that destroyed their friendship.

General plans: None, so please hit me with anything!
