Jesus Christ, Hargrove, I know itās everyoneās dream to feel a guitar playerās arms, but all youāve gotta do is ask...
[ This isnāt really the time for jokes, and he knows he's already dangerously close to being punched simply by being in the vicinity, but jokes are how Eddie copes with difficult thingsāwith fear and anxiety and uncertainty. Itās not really Billy that frightens him. He expected him to be upset, and he is, but the uncertainty over Maxās fate and the fact that there is absolutely nothing any of them can do about it? That twists a knot in his stomach.
Heād known her the least of the little group of freshmen heathens heād manage to accumulate back home, but heād still grown to care about her. Anyone who can face what Max did while still taking no bullshit deserves a little admiration. Sheād be a hell of a D&D player if her friends could ever lure her over. ]
Listenā
[ Heās learning a lot about Billy Hargrove this evening, and it feels like a little more than he should be learning when all he knew about the guy ten minutes ago was what kind of car he drove. The two of them are as good as strangers, and this feels like a breakdown he shouldnāt really be witnessing.
He sighs, brushes himself off, and rubs an arm where it had been gripped, seeing more and more just how ill-equipped he is to be delivering this news. ]
I didnāt ask. It wasnāt really my place. But, uhā¦Iām pretty sure itās just her and her mom in the trailer park. Iāve never seen anyone else over there.
[ Heās perceptive enough to take an educated guess about the situation, though. If a trailer park is your only choice, chances are thereās only one income coming in, or not a lot of it. Wherever billyās dad is now, heās not at Forest Hills. As for what Max is dealing withāgrief, survivorās guilt, stress over the changes at home? It doesnāt take a genius to work out.
But he canāt imagine Billy is wants to hear about that. ]
Iām just the messenger, alright? I wasnāt there at the end, but I trust Henderson enough to know heās not bullshitting.
