EVENT #24: RESOLUTION - OOC POST

Event #24 - OOC Plotting

Since March, the Summoned have taken refuge in the three minor territories. As the month draws to a close, the tremors only grow worse. Major structures and landmarks across Abraxas have crumbled or taken severe damage, including Portam Hall, Castle Thorne, and several important shrines in Solvunn. The earthquakes have also opened up the Maw, exposing the teeth-lined ravine that splits the Badlands in half.

By APRIL 16, the cause of the quakes becomes clear: the Horizon is beginning to breach the real world of Abraxas. When massive rifts threaten to swallow the world, characters will be left to make some difficult choices.

This is the final event for Abraxas. It will be divided into two parts (within the same post). OOC, the event will go from April to May 18. On May 18, we will post an Epilogue to wrap up the game in its entirety. Players may use the epilogue to write any final threads they wish.

Following this, the game will formally close and enter sandbox mode on June 1.

To address OOC time constraints and help with coordination, the IC Event Log will make use of the Network to communicate important information, including what characters have learned from NPC.

Part 1: Convergence
During Part 1 of the event, portions of the Horizon will break into the physical world, causing further disruption and damage to Abraxas. At this point, the war is on hold due to the ongoing destruction. Most territory leaders are busy containing the damage, which includes infrastructure, weapons manufacturing, and homes.

As the threat of extinction mounts, the Gods, both old and new, will emerge, intent on saving the Summoned as much as themselves. Some fear that if Abraxas ends, so will their existence; others believe that - as the barriers between worlds and dimensions break down - they'll have the chance to return home after hundreds of years.

Characters will have the chance to confront the situation alongside the Gods. They must reach into themselves to find the powers many might recall having 800 years into the future...though such an act won't come without consequences.

During Part 1, previous characters in the game played by a current player can return for the final event. See details under Emerging Horizon for how you may do so.
Emerging Horizon
The Horizon, and characters' domains within, will begin to emerge into the physical world. How this occurs is entirely up to players to decide: a spaceship can fall out of the sky, a floor of lava can flood a part of the desert, or someone's created pet dog can run loose. The only restriction is that there cannot be any weapons or machinery that would immediately devastate Abraxas. The world still needs to remain somewhat intact for endgame.

Additionally, characters previously in the game, played by a current player, will emerge similarly. They will tumble through the Singularity and into its expanding crater to find the state of Abraxas is much different than when they were last here several months ago.

Returning characters may keep all gains earned from their previous tenure. You may canon update them when bringing them if you wish, but they must keep all their memories of Abraxas. They cannot start fresh with no memory of being here.

The key role of the returning character is that they will inform the Summoned in Abraxas that the Singularity's quakes and rifts are beginning to endanger their canon world, too.
If you want to bring back a returning character, fill out the form and REPLY HERE to let us know.
The Territories
Flavor text will be introduced on the IC Event Log to provide some context about what the territories are doing and how the impact has affected them. However, since the crisis has grown far beyond the three major territories, the territories will not be the event's focus. Characters will not be divided between any territories from hereon.
Rifts
In addition to the Horizon, rifts will begin to breach the world again. This time, however, the rifts are permanent. If characters look through the doorways, they will visibly see their canon world beyond it, though they will not yet be able to step through to reach the other side.

The rifts will only appear in the Singularity's expanded crater, meaning only the Summoned can reach them to close them. The natives of Abraxas will need to rely on the Summoned's aid.

Players may choose one or two canon creatures per canon from their world to enter through this rift. Please note that this is per canon not per player. You must work out what you want to bring in with your castmates! This is to avoid overwhelming the setting with too much going on. However, we will not have as many limits on the danger of the creatures that you can pick. As long as it follows the same rules as the weapons above (i.e. nothing that will immediately destroy the world), you're free to select it.

Each canon world will have one corresponding rift that opens up.
During the IC Event Log, we will post a section where players can write a short blurb for any canon creatures they are contributing to the setting.

Players may also do this for their domain setting, but this part is optional. Much like the World Building page, if you want to allow other players to take control of these elements for their threads without your input, you may add them to the list. Otherwise, you can hold those details for personal threads you are involved in or work it out individually with other players on a case-by-case basis.
Part 2: Doorways
As the situation escalates, two things will become clear: the Singularity must be stopped, and the rifts must be closed to prevent the Singularity from devouring the other worlds through the doorways.

CHANGES TO RESTRICTIONS
◎ During this part, characters may travel freely throughout Abraxas. Due to the Singularity's growth in power, all canon portals, teleports, and flight abilities will work normally again. Therefore, characters may teleport themselves across borders and take others with them based on their original canon capabilities. Please continue to be aware of breaking any endgame mechanics, however! If you run into the risk of breaking the event with your character's new lack of restrictions, just come to us, and we can help you address this in a way that works for everyone.

Further, exceptions apply to places that are heavily warded or protected. Characters will not be able to simply walk up to NPCs in the major territories unless invited.
Additionally, a few of the Gods - particularly the ones who have made a connection with the Summoned - will appear during this portion. They will be equally concerned with achieving the same goal. Since their existence depends on Abraxas being stable and its people alive, they also don't want anything to happen.
Piecing the Puzzle
Characters will be able to piece together what to do with the help of NPCs who previously gave them some important details last month and can further clarify anything for the Summoned. The Gods will also be able to do so.

KEY REVEALS
The following information has been revealed to a few characters who approached the NPCs during last month's Wrap-Up.
◎ Elizabeth reveals here and here that she helped permanently seal the doorway to Faerie, the Fey's home world, following the Fey's departure. She explains that this process required at least one person to be on the other side, and at least one person to stay behind.

◎ Elizabeth reveals that powerful spells often rely on the lunar cycle, including the spell she used to help the Fey return home. She remarks that a lunar eclipse is coming up soon. Conveniently, this will be during the event.

◎ Vimorskas confirms that the New Gods are indeed the former Summoned and that there are some who have even sought a way home, to no avail...until, perhaps now. Regardless, a few of the Gods' goals seem to align with some of the Summoned.

◎ Ermis reveals a schematic from a strange futuristic world that appears to be a gateway. This gateway requires a large amount of energy to activate. While building this gateway may not be possible right now, the information from its blueprint may apply to the rifts that emerge.

◎ Anneth reveals a memory that suggests the dragons may have also come from another world, like the Summoned - and that while one "ascended," the other - Hierus - remained as he was. It is unclear whether this was their choice or incidental, but similarities between the dragons and the Summoned were noted some time ago during the very first visit.
We recommend players whose characters hold these details share them where possible to help progress the plot. However, if there are any issues, we will step in with an NPC to make sure everyone knows what they need to know.
Sacrifices
Ultimately, characters will come to understand that they must choose which side of the doorway they want to be on when the rifts close and that this is a permanent decision - there's no going back. Further, they will need to decide whether channeling the amount of power required to do this is worth it.

IC, there will be no way to know the consequences: it may result in their ascension against their will, it might strip them of all abilities, or they may perish altogether. This is uncharted territory and may affect everyone differently.

OOC, players may choose the consequence they want for their character. This consequence does not need to align with what the character ICly desires but rather should be what you feel is the most fitting ending for your character's arc.

If your character arrived after the God assignments, we will assign you one now so you can participate fully. Using this aspect is optional. If you want to play with more generic powers or gains from the Singularity without factoring in these additional details, you may!

Just SIGN UP HERE to receive your assignment. Because this is the concluding event, you won't need to follow the original instructions as strictly. Just use it as a springboard for your threads!
These will be the endings available for your character:
◎ They choose to return to their canon world through the canon-specific rift and seal it from that side. They may keep or lose any gains from the Singularity (the choice is yours), but they will not ascend if they are returning home.

◎ They choose to join another character's canon world through the canon-specific rift and seal it from that side. They may keep or lose any gains from the Singularity (the choice is yours), but they will not ascend if they are returning to someone else's home.

◎ They choose to remain in Abraxas and seal it from that side. After drawing on their Godlike abilities, they lose those abilities and any gains altogether and become a permanent - but mortal - addition to Abraxas. They will no longer have access to anything related to the Singularity, including the Network and the Horizon. Their canon abilities are untouched.

◎ They choose to remain on the Abraxas side and seal it from that end. After drawing on their Godlike abilities, they rapidly ascend and take on their God-form. This can be the same as it was in the Emergent Reality or you may make changes as you see fit. They will no longer be able to interact normally with the mortal population of Abraxas again.

◎ Regardless of which side of the rift they choose to be on, the power they channel overwhelms their body and they will succumb to death at the end.
Since characters can choose whether they stay in Abraxas, go home, or join another character's canon world, there will be time to discuss and say goodbye before the act is implemented. Since the spell cannot be performed until the correct lunar cycle, characters must wait roughly 24 hours and thus can take advantage of that time to make their decision and speak to anyone they need to.
Notes
Thank You!
Once again, thank you, everyone, for being one of the most engaged player bases we've had the pleasure to mod. We hope this event will grant your character a satisfying conclusion and provide enough drama and danger without infringing on your ability to decide what you believe is best for your character's final arc.

If you have any specific concerns, please speak to us! We'll do our best to help you.

Questions and Answers

If after reading these you're still unsure about anything, or your question wasn't covered, please feel free to hit up our Questions thread below!

Can my returning character also choose an ending, too?
Of course! Any returning characters may play out the conclusion the same way, and you are free to choose an ending for them. If you would like a God assignment, you may also request one, but this is optional.
What will happen to my character after the rifts are closed?
We'll post an Epilogue on May 18! Please wait for the Epilogue before asking questions about how your character might move forward. However, our goal is to make sure players can formulate a satisfying ending for their character. For the most part, unless the request is very difficult to work with, we'll most likely be able to grant it.
Does every character need to participate in the closing of the rifts?
No, the Gods will contribute and fill in the gaps where needed! However, we encourage characters to participate themselves where possible.
Is factoring in the God assignments and ascension required?
Not at all! If you would like to focus more on the more grounded magic and gains they've learned while in Abraxas instead, you are not required to play fully with the God assignments aspect. Since this event is about you and your character, there is no right or wrong way to approach it. In-game, the Summoned, like many of the Gods, are each unique. Therefore, while the Singularity will influence them to some degree, how much it does so and how much they (successfully) accept or reject this influence is entirely up to you.
Does "joining another character's world" mean that my character can leave for another world entirely?
Yes! As long as that world belongs to a character whose canon is currently in the game, your character can follow them there. This means that your medieval knight could potentially go to modern-day New York if that's what they want. Where your character goes is a permanent choice - they won't be able to come back to Abraxas or return to their home world if they change their mind.

The above only applies insofar as the game is concerned. There is no limit to what may happen in a future well beyond the game. You may imagine any scenario you like!
My returning character isn't from a canon currently in the game (i.e. their return will introduce a new canon to the list). What effect will this have?
A returning character from a canon that is technically "new" to the game again will open up that rift and introduce it to the playing field. The returning character's canon world will also be available for and subject to all of the mechanics and effects listed above.
Can any "pets" coming out of the Horizon remain in the physical world?
Yes! You may choose to "take" a pet or two that your character has kept as a companion in the Horizon into the real world. We recommend limiting it to a couple if your character happens to have many!
