There is the confirmation of what Thancred had already suspected, and he nods in concession of the stranger's point. "At the moment, yes," he replies, a mild implication that there have been times in his life where that was not the case, but he isn't here to pry too deeply.

There is a pause of consideration before he reaches out to grab a mini quiche, taking care that it is not from any of the serving plates that the other man's been focused on. There's enough to go around, surely, but he knows that one's thoughts are not necessarily rational when half-starved.

"Fair enough," he says with a roll of one shoulder. "I also happen to know that overeating after going without for some time can only lead to tragedy. 'Tis the only reason I saw fit to caution you."

Yet he also wonders what the catch is here, and how they'll be asked to repay all this hospitality. After taking a bite of his quiche, Thancred adds, "I assume you arrived by the same means that I did? Pulled out of some fountain in the altogther?"
