It's fine to talk. [ This is probably the nicest acknowledgement she's going to say to him besides give him her name, if they get that far. She doesn't mind listening, is what she means to say. He wasn't scared off by her obliterating some training dummies which already notches him a point of respectability in her book. Perhaps the pursuit knowledge is just that important to him, or he doesn't have anything to lose. Or, perhaps, he's seen something like her before.

She leans on the opposing edge of the crate from him and uses its surface to scrawl a row of triangular symbols. She's neat with them, but she moves with a practiced swiftness, as if she were writing a phrase instead of trying to render them as symbols.

He must be doing his research and looking around more than she. It's a shot in the dark, given the rest of the context of civilization on this planet (read: it existed and was alive), but she's been surprised before.
