[ Disappear.

Steve knows better than to press right now, to parse apart the tiniest friction in that word. If they can arrive in a place like this, no doubt they can disappear, too. But to what end? How quickly? Is there warning. And suddenly, a thought pulls through him on a sharp, electric current:

Who has Sam lost?

The weight of the battle with Thanos, the weight of the blipped five years, the weight of losing everything and everyone he'd fought so hard to protect seems to fade to the backburner. Sam needs him, he realizes, even if he falls into step beside him easy and confident as he'd been the day he raced him on the DC greens. Life had been simpler then.

He lets out a slow breath, listening to the list of people, the names that sting and hurt, until one lands heavy between them. Stark. ]

Stark is here?

[ He's dead. Steve watched the light leave his eyes, watched the flowers float over the water, saw the glimmer of the hologram inside the lake house. Steve lost his best ally that day, and to know he's here somewhere, alive? He doesn't know what to feel. His expression keeps steady but there's a pinch in his brows, a rush of thought behind his eyes. So many people here he had sworn to protect, and now he has to face them all again - protect them all here, even if he isn't sure that he's able to. ]

How is he? [ His voice grows quiet as they approach the stables, and he pauses outside one of the wide doors. Only then does he turn to face Sam, studying his friend's face, feeling the comforting pressure against his shoulder even though it's long since gone. So his comes back to rest on Sam's, giving a tight squeeze. Even damaged and weary, Steve knows how to stand strong in a storm. ]

...How are you, Sam?
