[ There's so much complicated to be pushed aside, and even if he wanted to face it, steve isn't sure he ever will. Why look at the ghost of the past - the man HYDRA made Bucky into - and try to fit that image over the man hugging him now. There is no one in the world that Steve Rogers wouldn't give a second chance to, a listening ear, and James Buchanan Barnes gets every pass, every opportunity, every millionth chance because Steve will never let him go anything alone again. (He won't let him down again).
Steve returns the hug, arms tight around his shoulders and he breathes a laugh, relieved and happy and completely befuddled. He knows Sam is here, but to have both him and Bucky now? It feels a little less like he's treading murky water. ]

[ The sound that bursts out of his chest is loud and rumbling and is as close to a laugh as anything Steve has made in what feels like years. He's had nothing to laugh about, nothing to celebrate - the only good that's come of anything was getting Bucky to safety and defeating Thanos. There's so little to celebrate, what with the team broken, some of his friends gone... ]
Been here long enough to make a mark already. I'm impressed. [ He draws back, gives Bucky's arm a firm pat. He's missed his friend. He's missed this. His expression softens, something fond and complicated clouding it all. ]
