She's never had any magic of her own - not really, summoning the presence of one specific entity doesn't count - but she's seen it used. To an extent. She knows what it can do, how it can be applied and utilized.

Any tool she can get her hands on is valuable.

"And I thought so - I was a teacher, back home." She runs her eyes over the words on the scroll, frowning thoughtfully. "Private elementary school in New Hampshire, if New Hampshire means anything to you."

It really doesn't look that hard, but Nadine knows that doesn't mean anything. It's probably like meditation, it just sounds simple but in practice...

"Okay, this makes sense, I think. The living body is full of all kinds of different energies and chemicals, we produce heat, we utilize oxygen... And fire only needs three things to exist - heat, fuel, and oxygen."

She can't help but try and make logical sense of how it works.
