I think...it might be possible to drive a wedge between the apprentices and their master. They seem to hold as much disdain for him as for us. He's not managing the impression he leaves them with; whatever great power he wields, his ego and attitude is a weakness of his.
Meanwhile, the upstairs folk, they're getting good food, access to books and lessons on magic. One of them snuck me a blanket, it's pretty plush. All of them seem to have the same question for us, though. 'Why are you here?' They're not getting answers any more than we are on that.
