The books interest Soren just as much as the magic does, if not more. A castle library hosts a wealth of information. Those permitted to roam the shelves would be well-equipped to glean an understanding of where they are. The mage envies this privilege keenly. To be given that and lessons in magic... Their purpose must therefore be entwined with it. However, if he were summoned and given those tools, he would still feel imprisoned by another's will and reluctant to do their bidding, for whatever purpose they are being led to has nothing to do with him or Ike. It's much better than being given nothing but food and beds, though.
