Player Plot - Bad Moon Rising - OOC Post
Tomorrow night, sometime between the late hours of the 11th and the early hours of the 12th, Ronan Lynch is going to make a big mistake. Having heard about Yennefer's recent inability to manipulate chaos, he's going to attempt to dream an object that can completely restore her magic.
Unfortunately, this is going to give the Singularity a terrible case of hiccups. For the next two weeks, the Summoned will be suffering the effects of these hiccups to varying degrees, feeling anything from mild irritability to outright madness as they experience surges of power beyond what they're used to.
This madness may be especially acute in characters who have no natural magical abilities of their own and have only experienced magic for the first time here in Abraxas. It's possible they'll temporarily gain chaotic magic over the course of the next couple weeks, which will be powerful but unwieldy and dangerous to the user or others around them. How exactly these powers manifest is up to you. If you're not sure whether what you have in mind is too OP, just ask the mods. (Don't ask me! I have no idea!) Edit: Mod clarification below!
Characters with powers of their own might find them distorted, as if the chaotic magic pulsing around them is interfering with their native abilities. They might end up with entirely different powers or none at all, which could leave them afflicted with temporary insanity and a desperate need to restore themselves.
This plot is completely opt-in! Whether or not your character is affected — and to what degree — is totally up to you. This event is an excuse to use terrible magic you wouldn't ordinarily get to play with or even let your character go wild with a chaotic evil alignment switch. Just don't break the game! If characters wreak too much havoc and their fellow Summoned can't take care of the problem, Abraxan mages will step in to temporarily neutralize their powers.
If anyone wants to track down the source of this big problem, hit me up and we can plot it out. Anyone who can sense fluctuations in magic might just be able to point the finger at Ronan as the cause. People are welcome to explore solutions for undoing Ronan's mess, but in any case, the Singularity will restore itself to order by the 25th.
Coincidentally, the eclipse will begin a full day after the first signs of madness appear. It's totally unrelated, but one couldn't blame our temporarily insane Summoned fellows for getting extra paranoid about it.

Hennessy plotting
She's also definitely going to pick up some of her shittier life choices during this time like not sleeping bc she's pretty sure she doesn't have to and just generally being way too high on bonkers magic.
Anyone who wants to make terrible decisions with this hot mess should step right up, and ofc the amount that she's gonna yell at Ronan afterwards is gonna be EPIC.
stephen strange & sephiroth
He will also feel awkward and terrible about acting like a jerk once this all wears off. :’)
Sephiroth and madness DO NOT GO WELL TOGETHER and while it is highly tempting to put him through the wringer, I think he’ll focus mainly on confronting others afflicted by madness and wacky magic. If someone needs a character to calm theirs down… possibly with a fight (or not!)… hit me up!
I am willing to maybe do bouts of temporary madness with him but they’d be fairly short and wouldn’t lead into anything particularly catastrophic. It’s available as cr-building flavor though if anyone is interested.

until he makes a concerted effort to stop them. by the 21st, the annoying petal storm will seem to have quit, except lol not really! it'll move to his lungs for some hanahaki-style coughing-up-flowers bs. 💀🌸
He'll be pretty freaked the hell out, as this will only get worse until it resolves on the 25th!
If anyone wants some cr building of the cutely-annoying type, or the slightly gruesome, hit me up.
PLAYER PLOT CLARIFICATION
sam wilson { free cities
the biggest thing that everyone will note is that his CALM EMOTIONS, which at the moment is something that he has to actively turn on and off, is going to distort from simply calming emotions of other people to sam taking/absorbing those emotions from others. rather than his calming zen or powers being any different, instead he will just be at a point of taking those intense emotions and putting them into himself.
the person who comes to him will feel something of the same effect - where they had intense, uncomfortable emotions before, they will no longer have them. but before, where the magic used to calm people down but would still be your characters, they will now. not be there anymore at all. c: at least temporarily.
WE CAN DISCUSS/WORK OUT WHATEVER but i'm happy to plot!!!

is cloud ready to feel calm and chill and totally fine for a bit cause I'm sure that's gonna be nice

If you happen to want Sam to run into despair, depression and nihilism so intense that the man who has them wants to destroy himself and the world let me know.

What is this feeling? This is a strange feeling, maybe he had it once millennia ago or in another life? It feels alien, he hates it, where is his pain? That was HIS pain, Sam, give it back!

i demand fallout h/c. bucky generally is going to be a steady calm and/or lowkey surprisingly intensely concerned even if u can't see it very well on the surface about his bro once he can tell it's starting to hit him
no subject
especially because bucky's probably gonna be one of the people who DEFINITELY notice a difference. also because I feel like any potential of sam like. showing that he's dealing with any of this and/or any potential lashing out could/would probably end up directed in bucky's direction anyway???
but yes please I would love this very much

do it
so he can be all woah wtf before the realizing and the consoling
i love it

Her innate Metroid Powers are amplified by Extreme Emotions (especially anger!) so that getting out of her control is actually something I want to play with much more; basically her hand turns claw-like and whatever (animals, people, machines; anything with energy) she grabs she can suck the life out of, like a weird vampire.
Samus' One Fear is losing self control and hurting someone she might care about so someone either obliging her Urge To Fight or trying to get her to calm down sound great.
After this (+appropriate brooding and feeling bad), maybe she'll be much more motivated to want to learn how to control magic/her abilities better so I'm also super into hurt/comfort, or magic study buddy, or science experiment therapy, or meditation training type threads post-event! Possibly she could just hate and resent magic but idk how that'd pan out for her long-term.

This is slightly more headcanon territory but I could also flub it with /waves hands magic fluctuation causing innate powers to go a little whacky, but in Super Metroid it's shown Metroids also have the ability to give back energy so I'm also open to something like that, if that accidentally gets discovered in their fight or post-fight?
no subject
If you want to have that power discovered in the aftermath, I'm game but I can't say how well Alucard would take a sudden power drain either (he might just...go more feral whoops.)
The real question is: where should this take place?
no subject
Maybe somewhere where they won't cause serious Property Damage or hurt civilians; an abandoned farm/house on the outskirts of Cadens? Or in the desert? She might try to isolate herself in those locations if she's feeling like a danger to herself or others at any point.
no subject
Oh, desert could work nicely. Alucard likes to head out every so often to get back to nature/awoo in peace.

Wen Kexing plotting!
But alternatively if anyone wants to talk channeling dangerous levels of chaotic energy with someone whose whole fighting style and qi is built around it, he might be able to give decent help there too? I am happy to do any random run-ins people might like if you want a body to smash into who won't be that surprised by being hit. Or he can attempt to restrain people. You know, as a good deed.
bucky barnes — free cities
For Bucky's magic, my first idea was to have his Dimension Door power happening sporadically and in reverse — meaning it'll be going off unintentionally and taking him 100-500 feet backwards to where he was earlier, particularly at the most inconvenient times.
I think my most Dramatique idea for this was to have someone in distress that he's trying to assist, except it keeps happening on a small scale of like 50 feet over and over again in a loop and as soon as he gets to them he winds up teleporting back before he can actually do anything. Medium-high stakes especially for the intensity. If you have an idea for your character needing some intervention and want to give it a whirl, holla. I'm happy to do a couple of iterations of this because what are RP timelines etc I'm loosey goosey about those.
dean winchester — free cities
Dean's gonna be a mess of uncontrolled unpredictable basic magic that manifests as a direct result of the emotions he's got churning under the surface. They're going to be a dead give-away that despite the haha funny grumpy sarcasm stoicism on the outside he's secretly a Big Feelings boy. It'll probably look like accidentally setting shit on fire when angry, dropping rooms to freezing temperature when he is angsty (so a lot), blooming some flowers or some shit when he's feeling fond like the touchy feely motherfucker he is
Alternatively, having his Vigilant Rebuke flip and accidentally injuring an ally — especially intensely, or during a critical fight — could make for some delicious fodder.
Goro Plotting
Initially, Goro is going to be a miniature furnace, emitting heat like a radiator turned up to 11, which considering he already lives in the desert isn't going to make him popular to be around. He'll also be drinking water like crazy as well.
By the second week however, he will be involuntarily coughing up or occasionally vomiting fire, as his fire breath goes out of control. This can range from simple short bursts of fire erupting from his mouth or a brief but continual stream, which if there's any wood around or other flammables will make for a dangerous situation. In short, fire bad and the discomfort it causes Goro will make him even more irritable and angry than he normally is. So have fun with that, Cadens!
Link - Solvunn (Primary settlement, now!)
If you like the C side of h/c AND/OR think your character could vibe with a paranoid teenager with far too much responsibility on his shoulders finally losing his marbles about it, this could be good instant CR!!
Alternately: since it's OP to summon huge monsters in the real world, would anyone like to battle the most horrible and vicious of Link's imagination monsters in the Horizon?
OR: If anyone in Solvunn needs someone to observe or stop their affected character, I'm listening!

He'll also be a lot quicker to get into fights, so tangling with either other affected folks or people trying to get him to calm the hell down could be a lot of fun.
Ronan Lynch | Thorne
Ronan, the fuck-up himself, will be losing his ability to dream until the Singularity is back to normal. Because everything's so slippery, he can't get enough of a grasp on the energy he needs to properly manifest a dream (without the risk of, you know, accidentally summoning a sentient world-eating fire or something) so he's not going to try.
Unfortunately, this means Ronan will be getting increasingly ill over the course of the next two weeks. There's enough magic bouncing around that he won't deteriorate as fast as he would in canon, but by the 19th he's going to go from looking pale as death to outright nightwashing. That means he'll be, uh, oozing horrible vantablack goo from his eyes, mouth, nose, and ears. This will come and go as the Singularity fluctuates, but become more and more severe until he's completely disabled by it. Just a notable sight for the folks around Castle Thorne! Extremely cursed and unpleasant to behold.
Mentally, he's mostly here, but he's going to feel like he's starving and might look kind of like he wants to eat anyone doing magic near him. Unsettling. He's going to be turning into a bit of an energy vampire, literally feeding on others' magic and draining their power to stave off his nightwash — which might actually come in handy if someone's out of control and needs stopping. Would you like to do something with this? Let me know!
Ronan's non-sentient dreams (basically everything other than his enchanted forest) will behave as usual, so if he's given your character a magic thing, don't worry. It still works.

He won't be around the whole time since he's going out on an expedition, but he'll want to make sure Ronan doesn't eat the castle before he goes. Don't eat the castle, Ronan
Harrowhark Nonagesimus | Free Cities
She will be experiencing necromantic vision primarily, and her actual photoreceptors in her eyes are taking a backseat. This means that it's hard for her to navigate, and anything that contains no death energy (anything that isn't plant or animal sourced, and if it's dead the older it is the harder it is to notice) doesn't entirely register via vision.
Meaning she'll visibly be having some trouble getting around, even if it's just around her usual haunts (library, the inn she's renting a room in, the pub Gideon bouncers at sometimes very briefly, the stables, the graveyard), and that means that helpful-minded people who might approach someone wearing bones and skull face paint will be able to attempt to bail her out of her predicament.
She'll both need the help and completely loathe receiving it. Her innate mental illness will also be flaring up more, though she is used to covering up her delusions—but this will make her more irritable, even as she knows she should be being more graceful.
no subject
But I am also 200% up for haywire necromancy because that just sounds like Alucard's normal life.
wanda maximoff · solvunn
i would love this opportunity to have wanda go wild with her powers. for now, she's been keeping it on the down-low that she is, technically, a really powerful witch. i'm here for the possibility of playing out close-to madness and/or full-on madness with her powers. she can be really frigid and lock herself into her own grief and bitterness over all the tragedies in her life and how she's been perceived for simply reacting to her pain.
what does this mean? at the start of the two weeks, wanda will notice fluctuations in her magic, like more is unleashed than what she aims for, if that makes sense. just big 'whoops sorry' moments. and then over time just play up her emotions becoming disarrayed with thoughts of her sons and the multiverse and this prophecy about her, to the point where she'll lose her shit for like two days or so? i'm open to playing the ugly mental manipulation+illusions on others who may be willing, and also magic fights?? i'm thinking she'll use her life creation magic to create monsters off of the bestiary to throw at people and just create havoc in general ahhhh
on top of that, having others try to reason with her and bring her down from her madness situation would be a viable way for her to snap out of it after those two days. ✌🏻
