EVENT #9: NOCWICH - OOC POST

Event #9 - OOC Plotting

Following the emissaries' visit last month, NOCWICH has invited the Summoned to visit between AUGUST 20 - 27 (in-game)!

While all of Nocwich is not yet open, the werewolves and vampires have set up a centralized spot where the Summoned can gather. This is the first time in history that Luna and Ikorr have agreed upon any neutral territory on the peninsula. The presence of the Summoned seems to have taken steps towards uniting the two sides in some way - at least where the trade economy is concerned.

As only the Summoned and a select few locals have been invited, the portals in the factions are located in a discreet location to avoid attracting too much attention. Where necessary, carriages will be available. The factions will cover the fee for these trips.

Invitations will be sent ICly on AUGUST 15, 5 days before the portals open. The envelope will contain a few items which will be revealed in the IC write-up.
Nocwich
Oleuni Square
Named OLEUNI SQUARE, this neutral piece of land sits precisely between Ikorr and Luna. It's been lit and decorated for the Summoned's arrival. Portals sit at four points around the square. Characters will be able to enter at any of these points. They may come and go as they please during this week. Inns will be available for those who wish to stay for a few nights - though prices will be high for the incoming tourists. Anyone who wishes to save a few coins might want to return home instead.

While full details will be provided on the IC post itself, a summary of what can be found in the Square is listed below for your plotting needs!
The Marketplace
The Marketplace consists of both temporary stalls and actual shops that have been built in the area, indicating that Nocwich has been planning this for some time. Characters will be able to find all manner of goods here, including wares introduced last month. There will also be services and entertainment: musical performances, spas, gambling halls, wine tasting, and more.
Fortune Telling
A few fortune-telling booths will be available, most of which are a gimmick using flashy cards and spells. Only one booth seems to carry a different aura. Those who are sensitive to magic will be able to sense something powerful in the air around the booth. Overseen by a dark-haired werewolf named Lady Elin, she will offer each of the Summoned a reading if they will give her their Arcanum. Unlike the others, she will take no payment. She will not profess to read their future. Instead, she will tell them of a path they once walked.

For characters who have been in-game prior to the August app round: Mods will give these characters a personal reading. A comment will be available on the IC post for players to request their character's fortune read - and it will be worth remembering this fortune in the days and months to come.

For characters who arrived during the August app round: Please wait to request your reading. While our goal is to give every character a reading, we'll need a bit more time to establish something for new characters! There will be an opportunity in the following month or so where new arrivals will be able to receive their reading.
Hunting Grounds
Werewolves and vampires alike enjoy hunting. As such, the forested section in the middle of Nocwich will be open for anyone who wishes to hunt for game such as deer, rabbits, and other wildlife native to the area. Crossbows, standard bows, and spears will be provided. Characters may not bring or summon large weapons anywhere in Nocwich territory. They must use what's provided and return the weapons afterwards.

Beware: Nocwich is permanently shrouded in darkness and light sources are not allowed in the woods, as they might disrupt the prey. Best find a way to enhance your eyesight...and try not to injure each other. Additionally, other hungry predators roam. These hunting grounds were designed for vampires and werewolves, who have less to fear than the average human. Perhaps it might be a good idea to take a partner?
The Full Moon
During the full moon on AUGUST 26, Oleuni Square will shut down and instead the Summoned will be invited to one of two ceremonies: Lunar Pond and the Nightbloom Ballroom. They can only participate in one of the options, as both occur simultaneously. Two portals will be available this night, which will take the Summoned straight through into either Luna or Ikorr. Visitors won't be allowed to stray, but they'll be able to look at the town as the carriage rolls along.

Both events are formal, so be sure to dress to impress!
◎ At LUNAR POND, the Summoned will be invited to beautifully lit forest area. Along with dancing, a decadent feast, and a blind tasting (with a partner!) tent for the adventurous, they'll have the chance to write the name of a loved one on a lantern for protection, then place it into the pond. As soon as it hits moonlight in the water, the lantern will light on its own and glow for the next three days. Whether one believes in the magic or not, they and the person whose name they wrote will experience a strange warmth as though they've been imbued with something special. More significantly, those who visit this ceremony will witness how the werewolves transform, something no one outside of Luna has seen for centuries.

◎ At the NIGHTBLOOM, the Summoned will be invited to a vast ballroom with dripping chandeliers. Blood wine and other delicacies will be served. Dance, enjoy the old paintings and artifacts, and drink. There'll also be the opportunity to learn ballroom dancing...with a unique enchanted twist. Afterwards, the vampires will display a precious flower not yet in bloom that no outsiders have seen until now. The Summoned will be allowed to take a small blossom and witness the flower's blooming under the full moon. They will be advised to remember its light when the night grows darkest.
Characters will not be told ahead of time exactly what the ceremony entails beyond a few basic details. This choice will have an impact on characters moving forward, so give it some thought.
Assigned Delegates
The following characters have been selected to represent their fellow Summoned and their faction in Nocwich:
◎ Yennefer of Vengerberg | Thorne | [personal profile] vixening
◎ Jaskier | Free Cities | [personal profile] cointosser
◎ Himeka Sui | Solvunn | [personal profile] aquaveiled
This meeting will take place on the full moon on August 26, after the ceremonies described above. This means delegates are free to attend whichever ceremony they like before they are taken to the meeting hall located in either Ikorr or Luna.

They can choose to meet with a vampire representative of Ikorr or a werewolf representative of Luna. Each delegate is free to consult with their fellow Summoned ICly and OOCly if they wish! The final decision will be theirs and theirs alone, however.

Delegates will not be participating in the assignment outlined below under A Rising Threat. They will be at their meeting at that point and their job will be to carry out the meeting successfully without alarming the representatives of Nocwich.

While we can't say exactly what delegates will earn for their faction depending on who they speak to, the rumors are as below. Use this to guide your decision if you like!

LUNA favors strength, protection, and craftsmanship
IKORR favors healing, vitality, and alchemy
A Rising Threat
On the night of the full moon, during the two ceremonies, faction leaders will receive word that one of their officials in Nocwich is in grave danger - including the Summoned chosen to be their delegates. Neutralizing this threat is almost certainly beyond Nocwich's abilities, and asking either the vampires or the werewolves for assistance could significantly damage a larger faction's reputation. Instead, they will ask the Summoned of their faction who are not busy with politics to perform a small task to help them identify and neutralize the threat. This task will involve placing a specific item as assigned according to their instructions.

Each of the Summoned will be able to decline, cooperate, or interfere with this request. Interfering will involve carrying out the task but subtly altering an aspect of it while doing so. A character's reasons for doing so can be anything. Perhaps they don't trust that this threat is real and think the factions are making a mistake by taking action. Perhaps they believe Nocwich is dangerous and that allowing this threat to materialize will help sever relations. Or maybe they're bad at following directions and made a mistake. The choice is in your hands.

The Summoned will also be able to sabotage another faction by tampering with another Summoned's task from an opposing faction or assist another faction (or their own) by fixing any interference they spot. This will flip the person whose task is being tampered or fixed, meaning their participation IC will change to the opposite effect of what they originally intended (from interfere to cooperate or vice versa).

Please communicate with the player(s) in question before attempting anything. Multiple characters can flip one character's outcome back and forth depending on what's being played out - the player will simply submit the final outcome for their character at the end.

Regardless, your character's choice (or others' choices for them!) will determine how events play out. Be careful - some decisions can't be undone.

◎ Players will have one week once the IC post (not OOC) is up to make their decision so give it some thought starting now!

◎ Characters will be notified after the delegates have already left for their meetings so keep this in mind when plotting. The timeframe will be tight.

◎ Your character must be attending one of the two ceremonies to participate.

◎ On the same note, anyone who is attending the ceremonies but does not submit a response will be considered as having declined to take action. If you wish to abstain altogether, your character must remain home in their faction city throughout this night as the Square will be closed.

◎ We will take the player's submission for their character as the final word. That means that even if your character ICly cooperated but you agreed for another character to tamper and change it to "interfere", you will submit your character's participation as Interfered.

◎ Characters will have one hour to complete the task and the task will require some prep time of approx. 15-20 minutes, so keep that in mind in terms of how many people they can realistically interfere with. As a guideline, we suggest restricting it to 1-3 others.
Back Home
Aiding the Locals
Most of the bustling activity is in Nocwich, but that doesn't mean the factions themselves aren't tuned in to what's happening. After all, portals go both ways. For the first time, vampires and werewolves are entering the factions, too. Many appear to be of a certain class of wealth, suggesting the common folk do not yet have the opportunity to make this trip. They will, of course, visit only between sunset to sunup, leaving well before the sky grows light.

Characters who prefer to remain in the city can contribute by helping the influx of tourists with directions, guiding them through more dangerous areas, or even recommending places to visit and explore.

Additionally, natives in the factions might request things brought back, such as rare plants, wine, and more. Characters are free to bring back samples within reason for those who request it and can earn influence within their faction by doing so. Just take care: Nocwich won't be happy if the Summoned ferry out too many of their wares and some potent magical items are off-limits to bring back. That doesn't mean they can't. It just means they need to be clever about it - and understand there will be consequences if they're caught.

If you're planning on having your character do anything beyond smuggling a small item or two out, please contact us so we can work with you to determine what's feasible or not.
Other Information
Nocwich Bestiary Contributions
To make things interactive, we're asking players to contribute details to some creatures we'll be adding to Nocwich!

We will provide the image, its name, and general disposition, but everything else is a blank slate. Remember that Nocwich is under perpetual darkness, so this will affect the ecology and diet of its wildlife. We won't be rigid about realism in a fantasy setting, but just keep this in mind as a general guideline to help your ideas along.

Players are free to add as much or as little as they want. If you want to simply post a comment that says "has sticky antlers," that's perfectly acceptable. While we can't promise to incorporate every single piece, we'll do our best to gather up everyone's contribution and use it to create a starting set of creatures roaming Nocwich that characters may get to interact with soon.

To contribute, comment here under the creature you want to add fun facts to! You can comment as many times as you want to as many creatures as you like. Building on others' ideas is encouraged!
Event Schedule
To allow for a bit of room for players to get things started, the event post will be going up a little before the actual in-game date the event occurs.
The IN-GAME EVENT will ICly take place August 20 - 27
The EVENT POST will go up August 15 for players to participate in.
The WRAP-UP POST will go up August 31 for players to view.
Plotting Form
Due to the nature of this event, we recommend everyone use the plotting form below!

Questions and Answers

If after reading these you're still unsure about anything, or your question wasn't covered, please feel free to hit up our Questions thread below!

Are there any restrictions or rules on Nocwich?
While this is a casual affair, it is still political and diplomatic in nature. The Summoned are expected to be on their best behavior to represent their factions. This means that although Nocwich hasn't outlined any strict rules, the expectation is that the Summoned understand how to follow basic etiquette: don't bring or exchange obvious weapons, don't upstage the merchants and steal their business, pay everyone fairly, keep state secrets to yourselves, don't break any major laws, and by all means do not disrupt or offend the citizens of Ikorr and Luna.

If the factions decide anyone's behavior puts their reputation or security at risk - whether with Nocwich or in regards to another faction - they will pull the individual from Nocwich and remove their access to the portals for the remainder of the event period.
If my character interferes with another or betrays their own faction, will they be found out?
On their own, the NPCs will not know as the Summoned are the only outsiders invited to the ceremonies. Players are free to work out discoveries of betrayal and tampering or any misunderstandings between characters as they wish, however.
If my character discovers someone tampered with their task, can they fix it?
This depends entirely on what you agree upon with other players! The outcome is your choice. How you get there is up to you, whether that's your character spotting the tampering and stopping it in time, using magic to ward off enemies, another character helping on their behalf unbeknownst to them, etc.
Can characters travel beyond the Square?
At this time, they will only be able to ride through in the carriage when traveling to the ceremony. Otherwise, they will be restricted to the Square. Please be patient - the rest of Nocwich will open up soon!
Can my character still participate in the faction task without attending the ceremony?
No. Characters must ICly be attending the ceremony to participate.
My character is the type to not want to be involved. Is this possible?
It sure is! If your character is at the ceremony, but they decline, this is considered one of the choices they can make. Choosing not to act will carry a weight equal to that of interfering or cooperating. If we do not receive a decision from a character who is at the ceremony, their status will default to decline.
What if I want to remain truly neutral and not influence the event at all?
If you'd like to opt out from influencing the event outcome at all, simply have your character stay home on the night of the full moon. If they're not in Nocwich participating in this part of the event, then they can be counted as having fully opted out.
Is there a limit to how much my character can hunt?
There is no firm limit, but remember that characters are meant to put their best foot forward! Be courteous about the Hunting Grounds and towards the Nocwich locals who use them. Decimating the wildlife or spoiling the hunt for others is a good way to risk getting removed from Nocwich.
Can trophies be kept from the hunting grounds?
Yes! Characters can do whatever they wish with their kill. Some merchant stalls will even help them skin or butcher the meat if the character doesn't want to do it themselves - for a fee.
Do characters need to stay in Nocwich the entire time?
Not at all! Unlike the Summit, characters can come and go as often as they please. The portals are open at all hours for the duration of the event. Comfortable inns are available for those who want to make the most of their time.
As a delegate, I want to meet the werewolf representative, but I want to attend the vampires' ceremony. Can I do this?
Absolutely. If their meeting is on the opposite end of Nocwich, they'll just take a portal over once it's time.
What parts of the event will I be missing if I'm a delegate?
Only the Assignment aspect! Your character will be able to participate in the ceremony, the pre-demonstration mingling, and the main demonstration (transformation or blooming) before they're asked to leave. At that point, delegates will be separated from the others before the couriers arrive with information about the threat.
Will attending a certain ceremony influence the outcome of this event or the factions?
No. Factions will be influenced by 1) who the delegates choose to meet with and 2) the character's choice during their assignment. Which ceremony they attend may affect characters on an individual level, but will not impact the factions overall.

Character Name: Petra Macneary
Arcana: Strength
Faction: Free Cities

Activities:
-- She doesn't have much in the way of money yet, being new, but she'll be eager to explore the marketplace and see what both the werewolves and vampires have to offer!
-- Hunting, hunting, hunting! This is right up her alley, and she does have experience hunting in the dark, so she would make an excellent partner for anyone who wants to try and would be happy to try and offer a few pointers along the way, should they need it.
-- She's an eager sort who will be interested in doing a little of everything, honestly, and likes to keep busy.

Ceremony participation: She will be going with the werewolves to Luna Pond. A partner for blind tasting is a must; she's too curious to resist it.

Faction task: Petra will be cooperating with tasks and trying to assist/fix interferences where she can. She is new but also has a lot of experience in having to quickly learn about unfamiliar cultures; also, given that they are guests in Nocwich, she thinks that cooperating is the right thing to do in the interest of aiding their hosts. She is not the sort to write off a threat, so she'll be taking this quite seriously.

General plans: This is baby's first event here so I am excited to jump in! I really am open to anything here, it's all growth and development opportunities and I'm looking forward to getting started. c:
