EVENT #13: FEYWILDS - WRAP-UP

Event #13 - Feywilds (Wrap-Up)

The Masquerade ends with great fanfare. The Fey announce that they are pleased at the attendance and will be in contact soon. Of course, for a long-lived species such as the Fey, it's impossible to determine their version of "soon." You get the sense that they didn't dislike having you there, however.

The Wrap-Up for this event consists of two aspects:
◎ Delivering information to the nations in play in-character (voluntary)

◎ A request for players to submit a creature from their character's canon world
Delivering Information
The nations will want to know what your character has learned about the Feywilds. Upon your return, you'll be asked to relay any information you gathered through observation or from speaking to one of the NPCs. Although any details will be accepted, each faction will have a focus. Characters can equally mention anything they think the Fey are hiding if the information is not as forthcoming or available.

Additionally, there is one more nation at play: Nocwich. Due to Nocwich's conflict with the Feywilds, they're also interested in any information the Summoned can provide, but doing so could be a contentious choice where the relationship between the Summoned and the Fey are concerned.

Nocwich's request is polite and entirely voluntary...but comes with the reminder that they would greatly appreciate the assistance in keeping their borders secure after having provided help to the Summoned during the crisis with the Acolytes.

If your character will choose to provide any information, fill out the form here and reply to the corresponding faction comment. You can decide to reply to only your faction, only Nocwich, both, or neither.

◎ Thorne
Thorne will want to know about Seelie Magic and the Fey's thoughts about the Singularity. This can include the types of spells you observed and its prevalence throughout their society, as well as any differences you may be able to convey between Seelie Magic and Academic Magic.
◎ Free Cities
The Free Cities will want to know about the Fey's military strength and their wildlife. This can include the creatures you encountered, their preferred weapons or tools, and what defences they have around their territory.
◎ Solvunn
Solvunn will want to know about the Faerie religion and their plantlife. This can include the plants you encountered, details regarding their religious ceremonies, and any magic they use related to the Faerie religion that you may have observed.
◎ Nocwich
Nocwich will want to know all of the above. They won't specify precisely what they're seeking, but it would be a reasonable assumption to guess that details about the Feywild's strengths and weaknesses would be of greatest value.
Canon Creatures
We'd like you to submit a description of a (relatively harmless) critter or creature that exists in your character's canon world! We can't say yet what this is for, but we can say you'll find out soon. Depending on the number of submissions, we may use all of them or we may narrow down the pool.

To submit a creature, fill out the form here. The deadline is July 8th at 11:59 ET.

Review the stipulations below before submitting your creature:
One canon source per player. Please pick a creature from only one canon if you have multiple characters.

◎ The creature in question should be a minor threat at most. It can bite, scratch, or be a nuisance, but shouldn't cause massive disruption or harm. A creature comparable to a sewer rat or an aggressive cat would be fine. It can also be completely harmless if you like! Something adorable and fuzzy would also be acceptable.

◎ The creature should be something that populates your world, but does not have a unique or intelligent personality in the canon, nor can they be capable of developing one. For example, a porg from Star Wars would be acceptable.

◎ The creature should be no larger than horse. We won't be too strict with this, but just try to keep a reasonable size in mind.

◎ If your canon has no other option, then creatures of a robotic nature are acceptable. For canons that have no unusual creatures or no creatures that fit the requirements, you can select a common cryptid or mythical entity.
Questions and Answers

If after reading these you're still unsure about anything, or your question wasn't covered, please feel free to hit up our Questions thread below!

Do I need to report information to the factions?
No, this is optional and voluntary. Characters won't be forced to deliver information, but doing so can be used to request influence in the future.
Can we keep any souvenirs or items from the Feywilds?
Small trinkets that characters bought can be kept. Plants and wildlife must not leave the Feywilds.
The creature I have in mind is normally dangerous as an adult. Can I submit a newly hatched or juvenile version of it?
Yes! As long as the creature doesn't grow rapidly, you can submit a juvenile version instead of its adult form.
What kind of cryptids or mythical creatures can I choose from? Can they be something from pop culture?
We recommend choosing something that commonly has existing lore outside of a single piece of media. For example, a kelpie or a jackalope would be fine.
What about androids or robots?
We ask that you avoid anything that contains high technological advancement, with the exception of if mechanical creatures are treated as standard critters or monsters in your character's canon and no other options exist. In this case, please try to choose something with limited technological capabilities.
Do aliens count?
Yes, alien critters from other planets in your character's canon can be submitted! However, they can't be sentient creatures.

I probably should have asked before I submitted, but can we submit non-cryptid/myth animals?

Hello! Crane knows Batman is a person but his goons spread rumours he's not. Related lines include "The things they say about him... can he really fly?" and "I heard he can disappear". Later on, when Crane gasses the Narrows, he as well as the criminals and inmates he leads literally see Batman as a demonic flying cryptid.

I've been discussing this with Blake's player since their canon point is after this happens. The trilogy lacks unusual animals and we wonder if this counts? The actual sighting is what people see of the "Batman" flying across the city on his way to stop Ra's.

It's the toxin preying on fears and susperstition so I'm guessing not but it never hurts to ask!

So Nero has made the bad decision (he will say he was goaded into it) to punch Lucifer in the face in the middle of the Masquerade. What are the consequences for this?

The plan is there may be further fighting (Rocket might be joining) but Istredd and Geralt will appear to pull them apart before Nero can make more bad decisions.

Just wondering how the fey will react!! Please I love Consequences

Player Name: Jay
Character Name: Kyle

Player Name: Dee
Character Name: Istredd

Character Name: Sabine
Influence Rank: 0

Details: Following in the footsteps of those she is currently, Sabine will report on the Fey Markets and Visitor Sites where she spent most of her time, what their wares were, how they were with interacting with strangers, how they seemed to perceive the Summoned, how they gathered to watch Summon'd perform magic. She'll talk about the magic they used as well, both there, in the opening parade, and in all things related to the ball.

Player Name: Lisa
Character Name: Jonathan Crane
Influence Rank: 2

Details: Crane will note his observations of the military from the welcoming ceremony. But he will remark he is not a soldier and only note the things he personally observes - the level of their technology and mounts that serve as modes of transport. He will also mention the Listening Tree and wonder if the tree is sentient. It's certainly a scientific conundrum!

He will share the concerns outlined in this post. Namely, his impression they were hiding their intentions. Do they wish to return home by fair means or foul? He will not be judgmental of the Fey and attempt to be impartial in his observations, analysing their behaviour from a psychological perspective. Noting suggestive turns of phrase like woefully confined and how they expect violence - neglecting to mention their intentions to defend themselves or how their hopes for the Summoned are different.

Player Name: Mica
Character Name: Commander Shepard
Influence Rank: 0

Details: Shepard's report will be made in a dry and factual tone, with largely neutral language and almost no color-commentary. She will opine that the Feywilds is militarily focused on magic, and that their weaponry, where she saw use of it, came with a focus on spears and bows for hunting purposes, eschewing anything explosive or loudly combustive particularly. The magic revealed was primarily cosmetic in nature, due to the nature of the event, but consisted of highly detailed illusions. The bathing facilites betrayed, in her opinion, the likelihood of fairly advanced medical capabilities, particularly as coping mechanisms for various poisons produced by the local wilderness, the inhabitants of which she would describe as generally very large and aggressive, with a high incidence of both venom and ambush tactics.

It is her personal recommendation that despite their lack of technological mien the Fey are not a particularly soft target, and that any attempt on their settlements it likely to be met with high attrition rates, and very slow advances. Nor do they seem inclined towards any form of trade, having particularly outlawed all use of non-native currency within their borders. Isolationism is clearly their policy, and whoever it is that cracks that nut first will have an advantage, and for whatever reason they have offered a softer point to the summoned; they may therefore be sharpest wedge available.

Details:
Kell will describe, to the extent he remembers the details, the various creatures he encountered - and one he hunted - in the Duskwoods, particularly noting that they all were extremely dangerous. Creature Name: Morozova's Stag / the Stag
Canon: Grishaverse

Description: The stag is beautiful and majestic and glows pure white. In the canon, it appears only at twilight and it also has the ability to amplify the magic (small science in Grisha terms) of whoever kills it or it chooses the person itself. People believed all amplification creatures had to die for the owner to get their power, but it was proven that it is possible someone can be chosen by it instead. Just a cool canon detail. Otherwise it is lovely and calm.

Creature Name: Squonk
Canon: General Cryptid (Heavy Rain has no unique creatures)

Description: Squonk is a very pathetic and relatable cryptid, in that it's very sad all the time. Generally depicted as being pig-like in form, its main feature is that it's ugly and selfconscious about that, and so it cries constantly. Totally harmless, the squonk mostly just wants to be left alone, and if cornered or threatened will simply dissolve into a puddle of its own tears.

Adapted as well to untrammeled jungle wilderness as to radioactive urban ruins as their natural habitat, they show no fear of people, travel in packs, and eat just about anything. Also, if you can manage by some miracle to befriend one, they are the bestest good boys ever.

Creature Name: The Gas Station Raccoons
Canon: Tales From the Gas Station

Description: A family of raccoons who lived equally above the grease trap in The Gas Station and inside the ‘evil’ forest teaming around it, both of which sit right over The Rift where an Evil Pain God Sleeps. The raccoons are either mutated or in-bred to the point of genetic deformity, having glowing red eyes, becoming durable enough to survive being run over and growing larger than normal (their alpha can get to 3 feet long).

They are aggressive if approached and will scratch, claw, and maul to get free, but rarely will just attack without provocation. They like jumping between trees/running around in air ducts/high spaces. They seem to be cogently aware enough to be judge-y of suspect people’s actions and somehow just happen to pop up and witness such actions.

They’ve been known to frequent garbage locals, invade buildings they aren’t wanted in, take down a deer, eat wasps’ nests, and don’t mind eating suspect magical things (like glowy magical creature cocoons and the like) left around willy-nilly in reachable spots—which can lead to interesting developments.

Description: Cwn Annwn (plural) / Ci Annwn (singular)
In Welsh folklore they are hounds belonging to Arawn, King of Annwn (Welsh Underworld). Those are regular hunting dogs, just white with glowing red eyes and red ears. All white animals in Welsh folklore are associated with gods, and red colour with death. Hearing their barking was considered an omen of death.
Later, in Arthurian legends, they were connected to the Wild Hunt.

These creatures have hands. Four legs, and a pair of hands positioned in front of their forelegs. They have no special powers, no toxins, and are docile. However, when faced with a sentient creature, they will select a target to slowly follow, waiting until the target's back is turned... and then... steal their money.

This continues so long as the target's back is turned. Facing the cow will end the theft, and the cow will wander off.

Creature Name: Wolpertinger
Canon: Bavarian Folklore

Description: The Wolpertinger is a small mammal with a body similar to a rabbit that also has antlers, fangs, feathered wings, and sometimes webbed feet. Despite their somewhat fearsome appearance, the wolpertinger is a gentle and reclusive creature that actively avoids all predators, including humans. While it has wings, it is not particularly aerodynamic and so flying is done mostly to escape predators or react to threats and is more of a glide than anything. Despite the presence of the fangs, the wolpertinger is a strict herbivore and only uses the fangs (and antlers) as another means of defense. Their natural habitat is the forests of Bavaria. According to some versions of legend, the best way to catch one of these creatures is in the presence of a beautiful woman (person?) as they seem to have a particular weakness for them...

Demobats are basically like normal bats—but weirder and grosser and slimier. They don’t have eyes, but they do have long tail that can be used to grab and strangle prey and very sharp teeth. Don't underestimate those teeth--they're capable of biting through human flesh. They're comparable in size to a flying fox, will fly both solo and in colonies, and have black blood.

In canon, they’re part of a hive mind and controlled by Vecna, but without his influence, they’re unlikely to attack unprovoked and will mind their own business like a normal bat.

Creature Name: (Baby) Wyvern
Canon: Fire Emblem: Three Houses (Or any European mythology...or Fire Emblem...)

Description:
The wyvern is a type of dragon with two legs, two wings, and often a pointed tail which is said to be a venomous stinger. Unlike their dragon counterparts, they rarely breathe fire.

Wyverns can live in the harshest environments, but most are found in high mountain regions and sometimes near volcanoes. Wyverns are covered in brown, gray, ruddy red, or muddy green scales depending on their environment.

Baby wyverns act similarly to baby birds; they imprint on their caretaker provided they are shown respect and kindness but still need to be fed and taken care of. They hop around on their two feet until they learn how to fly, but at this age, they can't fly very high or for long periods of time. Baby wyverns are about big as house cats but weigh less than they appear. A rough idea of their size progression can be seen here.

They are intelligent but not really sapient, and they can grow to the size of a pony, but if something less dangerous is needed, the pups are smaller and go through an adolescent phase of being maybe the size of a German Shepherd. In Westeros they generally live north of the Wall (semi-arctic wilderness). They are carnivores. Some are solitary, some lead packs of other wolves, including the normal kind.
