EVENT #22: KHION - OOC POST
Event #22 - OOC Plotting
Last autumn, the Nether came to the Summoned with a request for aid for the ailing dragons and faltering ecosystem. After a vote, and some tense negotiations between the territories and the Summoned representatives, the dragons in the Nether were able to recover. With them, the land has started to recover, as well.
While the Nether has a long way to go before it can flourish, improvements can be seen day by day. Now, one year later, the Draconae of the Nether have invited the Summoned back during their winter event, called Khion, as both a celebration and a gesture of gratitude. Gates will open DECEMBER 16 and close DECEMBER 20.
Characters will not be able to go in and out of the Nether. While they can return home early, they will not be able to re-enter once they leave.
As for The Dimming...something strange continues to affect the Singularity.

The Return
Where the Summoned's previous visit sent them deep into the heart of the Nether's volcano, the only inhabitable area at the time, it appears that the Nether has expanded its territory to the surface again. Thanks to Kruos's recovered health, the Glass Serpent herself has brought trees and standard wildlife back to the once barren mountains. Within the volcano, as well, the Ashlands are showing small signs of life.
Most of the activities and events will be described on the IC Event Log itself. The OOC post will be a brief summary of what you can expect. An important incident will occur at the end of the event...so stay tuned for that!
Explorable
During the festival, the Summoned will be able to explore some of the newly expanded areas. For characters who were there during the previous event, they'll get the opportunity to see firsthand the impact they've had on the Draconae and their lives. Some areas they can explore are:
- CINDER'S CORE: Previously filled with fossilized plants and the remains of a great ecological tragedy, the young dragon Okenus has now grown enough to migrate to an area on its own. Its essence of water magic has brought life back into this portion of the land.
- OPAL FLATS: A beautiful pearlsecent surface of ice has formed across a section of the surface above. The Draconae are still contemplating its usage, but for now, it's become something of an ice skating rink - which characters can enjoy!
- DUSK FALLS: Characters can hike up a mountain and observe breathtaking frozen waterfalls for themselves. Along the way, they might come across some unique wildlife. If they make it to the top, they'll also receive the rare treat of riding a dragon back down.
Old Faces (NPC Meetings)
Characters will have the opportunity to speak to two NPCs who were part of the previous event: Anneth, the Flame, and Aster, the Guardian. Curiously, the Warden and the Keeper are absent from this important celebration. They've been sent on a key diplomatic excursion to Nocwich instead.
There's also one surprise (but potentially familiar) guest. This Draconum has returned home after much traveling and quite an exciting incident in Ikorr not long ago. He'll be happy to see some of you again!

Any character can choose an NPC to speak to. While there are no influence requirements to speak to an NPC, please keep in mind the mod team is also currently balancing planning the rest of the endgame events so threads may be on the shorter side!
Activities
In addition to exploring and meeting the NPCs, the following activities will be available:
- SPICED CIDER WORKSHOP: Characters can create their own spice blend that they can then infuse into the cider served throughout the festival for a personal touch. They can also take their spice blend home or give it to someone as a gift!
- PEST CONTROL: Since the surface has only been recently settled, a number of pests like birds and rodents have been bothering residents and may disrupt aspects of the festival from time to time. The Draconae will ask for characters to help guide or lure the animals away so that everyone can enjoy their food in peace.
- YOUNG DRAGONS: The young dragons are now healthy and thriving. Unfortunately, this means they have even more energy to get in trouble. They have a habit of stealing, knocking over, and are otherwise a bit of a menace toward the decorations brightening up the Nether. Characters can help hang decorations back up, catch fragile ornaments, or protect the food from being snatched right off the table.
- MYSTERY POTIONS: The Draconae love a bit of chaos. One of the traditions of Khion is a mystery box of potions. Grab one, gift it to a friend (or an "enemy"), shake it up, and see what the effects are. None of the potions are dangerous, but they might cause your hair to change color, give you fun claws or horns, or make you glow. Effects only last an hour or so.
For the mystery potion box, we'll have a comment where players can reply to it once their character ICly opens their mystery potion. We'll then give the character a random effect.
Awakening
Typically, the main winter occasion in each territory (the Dimming, the Festival of Enlightenment, and the Winter Solstice) coincides with the Dimming of the Singularity, a brief period where its observable activity diminishes. Beginning on the 14th, the background level of magic across Abraxas dips significantly as the Singularity begins to dim, reaching its nadir on the 21st before stirring back to full strength by the dawn of the 28th.
Only the native Abraxans are affected by this phenomenon. The Dimming has no impact on the Summoned's magic, although this is the only time of year when one of the Summoned may approach the Singularity past its crater without being drawn into the Horizon.
This year, however, as characters spend their time in the Nether, they and the Abraxan natives begin to notice that the Singularity is not entering its state of hibernation like usual. What could be causing this? Certainly, it's leveled the playing field between Thorne and the Free Cities, the latter of whom were waiting to take advantage of the mages' waning magic.
As characters close out their final night in the Nether, they may find themselves hurrying abruptly back home - or at least, attempting to. They'll quickly discover something is very wrong in more ways than one.

This portion of the event will take place at the end of it. We would like to signal ahead to players that it will involve two things:
◎ The opportunity to temporarily send your character to a new territory for the month of January.
◎ The closure of Nocwich for January and February. The Horizon will remain accessible. Additionally, February's event will begin earlier than typical both IC and OOC, closer to the beginning of the month.
In-game, the temporary displacement will happen accidentally so characters will not have a choice. However, players will be able to opt-in as they wish. After January, February's event will disrupt things further so they will not remain in those territories for long.
You do not need to decide until after the event. You will only be committed to a selected territory once you have an in-game record of your character doing something in that territory, but we suggest deciding as soon as possible so you can make your plans.

Notes
Event Schedule
To allow room for players to get things started, the event post will be going up before the actual in-game date the event occurs.
The IN-GAME EVENT will ICly take place DECEMBER 16 - 20
The EVENT POST will go up DECEMBER 15 for players to participate in.
The WRAP-UP POST will go up DECEMBER 31 for players to view.
Plotting Form
You can use the plotting form below to make plans.
Questions and Answers
If after reading these you're still unsure about anything, or your question wasn't covered, please feel free to hit up our Questions thread below!
- Can my character bring a weapon to the Nether?
- Absolutely! Keep it reasonable (don't bring a full arsenal) but the Draconae themselves are regularly armed and don't consider others who arm themselves a threat. Feel free to carry your weapons and use them for hunting! However, they request that firearms be used for emergencies only to avoid disturbing the dragons.
- Will my characters return home after being sent to another territory?
- Players will find out what happens in February's event but we'd like to signal that the end of December is the formal start of endgame. Please be prepared for things to undergo some major changes rather than a return to the status quo.
- What about my character's stuff that they've left behind?
- There will be an opportunity to regain some items (and small pets!) that characters may have left behind and were unable to retrieve due to the unexpected circumstances.
- Will my character lose any influence or have to start over if they're accidentally sent to a new territory?
- No. In fact, if your character is sent to a new territory, this will add to their influence since they will now have the opportunity to be noticed in two separate territories rather than only the one they were summoned to. We encourage players to submit for influence in February based on actions in January.
- What if my character just arrived? Can they still earn influence the same way?
- Yes, but we'd like to note that in an upcoming event, there will be an opportunity for only lower influenced characters to take action due to their relative anonymity. If you're newer to the game, your character will still be able to play an important role so don't worry about rushing to earn rank! Having a lower influence won't affect your ability to participate meaningfully.
- Do we have to sign up somewhere to switch?
- You won't have to sign up formally for approval, but we'll have a section in the Wrap-Up for players to indicate where their character will be going (or staying). We encourage everyone to fill it out so that other players have a good idea of who'll be in their territory for January!

Territory: Free Cities
Rank: 4 or 5, I think? But he's desperately due for an increase, I need to submit him for it.
Activities: He'll be eager to see how the Nether is doing after the last trip! I may potentially toss him at an NPC, depending. Otherwise he'll help with things like pest control, cleaning up after the baby dragons, etc. He'll also just want to explore now that the lands have recovered some. I think the mystery potion thing looks fun, but someone might have to goad him into it.
Do you have an idea of which territory you'd like your character to go?: I'm a little bit on the fence with him! I might wait and see what CR and castmates are doing, but he's never left the Free Cities so it might be fun to toss him elsewhere. I'm leaning toward Solvunn at the moment.
General plans: He'll be a little concerned about being away from the FC when war is brewing, so it's possible he'll leave early when he gets too antsy about that, especially with the Dimming so close.
