EVENT #23: CROSSROADS - OOC POST
Event #23 - OOC Plotting
After the majority of the Summoned were displaced last month, officials have gone out of their way to make sure the unexpected arrivals were accommodated while also seeking a solution to return everyone home. With the Singularity as unpredictable as ever, no one wants to risk upsetting the balance of the world any further.
As a result, officials have organized a meeting on neutral ground to sort out the mess. All of the Summoned must be there. Authorities will stress that if there is even one Summoned unaccounted for, it could put the tentative peace established at risk - and potentially destroy any chance of the displaced Summoned reuniting with their friends and loved ones.
This meeting will take place on FEBRUARY 18, at a safe distance away from the Singularity's expanding crater. Upon arrival, a series of events will occur and, instead of being returned to their territories, characters will find themselves on the run. They will eventually be given refuge by one of the three minor territories depending on where they end up: Nocwich, the Nether, and the Feywilds.
IC, officials will not arrest or physically force anyone to go. However, OOC, this event is dependent on characters being at the neutral location. Therefore, please find a way to make sure your character ends up where they need to be.

Leading Up
Leading up to the event, characters will be informed via a written summons of what will be happening. If characters ask, they will be reassured that should they wish to remain in their new territory, they will be allowed to do so but they must still attend the meeting itself. Officials will note that it's in everyone's interests that this proceeds peacefully and that nations recognize that the Summoned are greatly important - and their well-being is the highest priority.
On the meeting day, characters will be transported by portal, which officials have tested and promised is safe. Though the Singularity did not go dormant during the Dimming, it does appear to have settled down somewhat over the past few weeks, and portals are now much more stable again.
Each person may bring a few personal possessions if they've acquired any and want to bring it back to their home territory (or if they wish to have it with them during the exchange). This includes weapons, small pets, and anything else that can fit into a shoulder bag or a backpack.

Note that going into endgame, characters will have to give up larger possessions like mounts, homes, and furniture until the game's conclusion.
Regarding carriable items, in addition to the few possessions they can bring with them in this event, there will be an opportunity in the future for lower influence characters to help others retrieve any items left in their original territory. As a result, don't worry too much about what your character should bring to this exchange itself.

At the Exchange
A series of decisions, not all of them supported by every official, will cause the supposedly peaceful exchange to break down completely. We'll detail exactly what happens in the IC Event Log. Broadly speaking, characters will find their lives at stake and will be forced to flee into the Singularity's crater itself, where none of the natives can follow.
Upon crossing the threshold, characters will feel a strange pull toward the Singularity. They will not be drawn into the Horizon as usual. Rather, a sudden flare of light will consume them, and they will be transported without rhyme or reason to one of the three areas (or "scenarios") below:
In-game, characters will not know and cannot choose where they're teleported to. Out-of-character, players can pick. You should choose the scenario based on which minor territory you want your character to end up in. Every minor territory will be assigned to one of the three scenarios above.
Scenario assignments are as follows:

A. The mountains bordering the eastern side of the Singularity. Characters who were part of the escape group during the Invocation event will find this area familiar.
B. The deadened forest at the border between the jagged Fey mountains and the Duskwoods, south of the Feywilds.
C. In the middle of the ocean, slightly eastward of where Tornis sank. Characters who end up in the water will be given a "raft" through old friends deep beneath the sea so they will not drown or sink.

Scenario assignments are as follows:
A. Characters placed in the mountains will be intercepted by NOCWICH.
B. Characters placed in the forest will be intercepted by THE FEYWILDS.
C. Characters placed in ocean will be intercepted by THE NETHER.
Each minor territory will rescue the Summoned lost in the area we've "assigned" to them. It will not be possible for you to choose the minor territory directly. You must choose through the scenario your character will be sent to.
Surviving
Characters will land relatively close together, but some might be separated by a walk of anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours. How you play it is your choice, but ultimately, all the Summoned in their areas should end up together. Once gathered, they'll need to survive their scenario for 36 hours before rescue arrives.
◎ Powers & Abilities
After being teleported, character abilities and powers will be unstable. The effect can last anywhere from a couple of hours to the full 36 hours. This does not mean the ability won't work at all. Instead, the ability will be unpredictable and could backfire or affect something unintended.
Choose the length of time that best suits your plotting needs. The mechanic's purpose is to ensure the survival aspect remains a key element for your character. For example, if you need your character to have a reason to avoid using an ability that would break the event or you simply want to give them a hard time, you can rely on this power instability.

◎ Environment
Other threats will be detailed on the IC Event Log. We've outlined a brief overview of what to expect for each scenario so you can start to plot.
A. The MOUNTAINS will be extremely cold. Ice and wintering beasts are a major threat, and food is scarce. Characters should hunker down for the night, build a fire, and make some shelter to stay warm. An unusual spirit also haunts the area, whipping up a dangerous blizzard.
B. The FOREST will be extremely dark and filled with a strange energy. Fey beasts can be a danger. Environmental traps, venomous animals, and poisonous flora fill the area, making it difficult to know what can or can't be eaten or touched.
C. The OCEAN is freezing in winter. Characters will need to climb aboard the "raft" quickly where, fortunately, they will be dried off with an unexpected magic. Nonetheless, the icy winds and ocean waves are powerful, so characters must work to ensure the raft doesn't capsize.
Rescue
The rescue will take place at the end of the event. NPCs representing each minor territory will arrive to bring your characters to safety, though there is a unique figure for the Feywilds. Although Nocwich and the Nether will not undergo many changes, the Feywilds will have some noticeable differences. If you participated in the Feywilds event and are planning to return your character there, please note that the land has now been abandoned...and a very, very old face has emerged instead.
Characters will spend March in their new place of refuge. The 2-part concluding event will be posted in April and May, and the "epilogue" will be posted in June. The concluding event will bring everyone together so characters will only be separated into territories for one more month.
While in the minor territories, characters will have brief windows where they can visit another territory for a short period (1-2 days). The minor territories aren't interested in preventing characters from traveling, but they are cautious of attracting attention and will caution the Summoned to limit portal travel beyond their borders.

Notes
Ability or Transformation Gain
Characters will receive a gain of either one physical alteration or one new magical spell/ability. While this gain can be anything, we encourage people to consider a gain that suits their experiences throughout the event. Gains should be minor and not overly powerful. See Reward Gains to learn more.
To request your gain, submit it as usual on the upcoming Activity Check form.

Questions and Answers
If after reading these you're still unsure about anything, or your question wasn't covered, please feel free to hit up our Questions thread below!
- I want my character to go to a specific location, but I don't want to miss out on interacting with an NPC from another territory. What should I choose?
- If you have a good reason to speak to an NPC from another territory and a clear goal for the conversation in mind, just use the Plot Engagement post and we'll work with you to set the meeting up. Picking a territory won't lock you out of NPC interactions by default!
- Is it possible to visit each other once characters are rescued and in their new territories?
- Yes, there will be small windows of opportunity for in-person interactions across territories. However, there won't be a freely open portal and characters will be advised to limit how long they stay. Generally speaking, characters can visit each other once or twice throughout the month for a couple days at a time, but not more than that.
- How long will my character be in this new territory?
- Just a month. After that, things will change further and all characters will be brought together in one location.
- Can I know more about the mission for lower-influence characters?
- It won't be relevant for the upcoming event so don't worry too much about it yet! We'll give you all the details on the Wrap-Up.
- Can I injure my character or have them defend themselves from NPCs? Can my character kill or injure anyone in return?
- Yes! Just be reasonable about how much damage you're doing and how many NPCs are affected. Try to limit it to a small handful or your immediate area. This is just to ensure consistency in events across the setting for all players.
- What if my character will actively avoid entering the crater?
- The crater will also be expanding at the same time, so you may have your character be accidentally caught up in its spreading borders. Merely crossing the threshold a few inches will be more than enough to teleport them to one of the three scenarios.
- How tough will it be for characters to survive if my character isn't normally the type?
- Characters will face challenges, but they'll be able to find resources and rely on each other. Characters who aren't typically the survival type won't find the situation unmanageable. The Summoned will only need to make it through one full night before rescue arrives.
- Do I need to declare where my character is going beforehand?
- No, your decision will only be formalized once you write your character into their scenario on the IC Event Log. We will not be organizing who goes where nor will we be taking numbers into account. Choose what works best for you!
Questions
Alucard | Castlevania | Free Cities -> Thorne
Swapped Territory: Thorne
Original Territory: Cadens
Scenario: I am torn between mountains and forest, although I am most likely leaning towards mountains given Alucard's general affinity for Nocwich. However exploring the Feywilds again COULD be super fun and I would be very into it. Help deciding would be fantastic.
Helpful skills/abilities:
- Excellent eyesight and hearing
- He can float, probably good for scouting
- Good with a sword and can improve on weapons
- Has become excellent and organizing during his time in game so he can help manage things if required. He'd prefer not to though.
- Alucard works great as a supporting player for folks, so he is on tap to help whenever needed.
Supplies:
- A few changes of clothes including a winter coat he packed for the Nether and a fluffy blanket made of werewolf fur
- A small dagger he bought to keep himself safe while without his more usual gear
- Some tea and some wine
General plans: IF I GO WITH MOUNTAINS: Alucard will be cold, but he will be willing to put more effort into it in order to keep others safe as he is sturdier than many. Also if there's any way of calming the spirit, he will be willing to help figure that out.
IF I GO WITH FOREST: He's very good at stabbing things, so he can at least keep people safe
Either way, Alucard will be so, so relieved to get out of Thorne.

diana prince | dceu | free cities
Swapped Territory: N/A
Original Territory: Free Cities
Scenario: Diana will be in the mountains!
Helpful skills/abilities:
↠ Diana is a soldier, and knows how to survive in the wilderness. However, icy mountains are not her area of expertise, so she will be out of her depth in the mountains, but still able to handle the basics like building shelter/hunting.
↠ Enhanced strength/speed/reflexes/senses/healing
↠ Hand-to-hand and weapons combat expert
↠ She can build a fire
Supplies:
↠ She will wear armor to the meeting beneath a cloak
↠ A few weapons (sword, dagger)
↠ Since Diana did not switch territories, she will have no other traveling supplies on her person
General plans: Diana will focus on keeping everyone displaced to the mountains safe and warm! She will only do short range searches as she moves with whatever group she ends up with, realizing that in a blizzard, she can't go very far without risking getting lost. She will go into full survival mode, and will do her best to make sure the other Summoned on the mountain survive.
Additionally, Diana has never run from a fight in her life, so I'm interested to see how the meeting breaks down! It is more likely that she will go after others who are running to the Singularity to ensure their safety rather than run there on her own.

Dee's people
Istredd | The Witcher
Swapped Territory: Solvunn
Original Territory: Thorne
Scenario: Istredd will be crashing into the ocean and headed to the Nether! He has been on a sea creature in the sea before so this is just like old times.
Helpful skills/abilities: Istredd is a powerful mage but I'll have his powers be a little spotty! He will be injured but not seriously so, just enough to be annoying af. But he's generally strong and helpful and has been on the sea like this before.
Supplies: He will probably have some fresh food in his bag of plenty from Solvunn because they have stuff they cannot get in Thorne and he would've thought to take that. So that might be helpful for them to keep as rations, although it won't be a super lot.
General plans: I'm down for anything. He is going to be injured and miserable about that and like 'here we are again' since this is mirroring what happened with him and the Pit escape.
Jesper Fahey | Grishaverse
Swapped Territory: Free Cities
Original Territory: Free Cities
Scenario: He is going into the forest and therefore into the Feywilds!
Helpful skills/abilities: Jesper's super helpful. His gifts may be a little rocky but they are generally helpful and he's a skilled fighter and hunter even without them. He's been to the Feywilds before and hunted in them so he has some experience.
Supplies: He won't have brought anything useful outside of his guns.
General plans: If it's truly abandoned, he will immediately say that the Summoned should make their own camp there and gain independence and to say fuck off to the other territories. :)
Julia Wicker | The Magicians
Swapped Territory: Thorne
Original Territory: Solvunn
Scenario: She will also be headed into the forest and the Feywilds!
Helpful skills/abilities: Julia's magic helping others will be on the fritz but she has power that she can still use on herself that could be potentially useful. It's possible her 'animals love me powers' could come in handy with the beasts, we'll find out.
Supplies: Nothing useful!
General plans: Just excited to go Fey, baby!

court's trio
thancred waters | final fantasy xiv
Swapped Territory: Free Cities
Original Territory: Thorne
Scenario: Forest / Feywilds!
Helpful skills/abilities: Thancred is truly perfect for this. He has training in survivalist techniques and has actually lived off the land, stranded and on his own, for a number of weeks and did just fine. This man could go on the reality TV show, Alone. ANYWAY, that's all to say that he can help with making makeshift structures, tracking animals both for safety and to hunt for food, trying to make sense of what stuff is safe to eat by using various tricks and knowledge, standing guard, etc.
Supplies: At least two daggers, a few outfits including an extra pair of boots, potentially some Cadens-specific snacks that he would have wanted to bring back with him as a souvenir of sorts, etc.
General plans: Given Thancred's experience in this area, he will likely take charge and do what he can to keep the other people with him safe, which will also include giving people basic knowledge and tips to keep them safe while they're stranded. He'll help with food identification, with hunting down monsters if they become an issue, with going on scouting trips to look for food and other helpful supplies, etc.
I'm not an expert on any of this myself, but I'll BS it as best I can. I'm probably going to top level with him since I didn't do as much with him in the territory swap, so he's due for some new and shiny threads.
steve rogers | marvel cinematic universe
Swapped Territory: Solvunn
Original Territory: Free Cities
Scenario: Ocean / The Nether
Helpful skills/abilities: Steve has all those fun super-soldier enhancements that should be of use here! He'll be able to dive into the water if anyone's at risk of drowning and drag them up to the surface, since he has both the strength and lung capacity for that. He'll also just be there for moral support if people start to panic about being stranded in the middle of the ocean. He probably also has some very basic first aid knowledge. OH, and feel free to huddle with him for warmth?!
Supplies: Wanda may have sent him home with a little care package of soaps, lotions, etc, not that that will do a ton of good. He might have a change of clothing too. Oh, and his (Abraxas-made) shield, since I imagine he took that to the Nether with him so he'd still have it with him. They could use it to hold water LMFAO.
General plans: This scenario might bring back some memories from getting off of the island all that time ago, which will be a fun callback! He's going to be focused on making sure that people don't get too panicked. I'm not sure how much help he'll be with stuff like food acquisition, not that they have any easy ways to cook any fish they got their hands on... But he's also willing to go without for the time that they're stranded if that's needed.
Oh, and I might toy with his powers being a little on the fritz depending, but we'll see.
tifa lockhart | final fantasy vii
Swapped Territory: N/A
Original Territory: Solvunn
Scenario: Mountains / Nocwich
Helpful skills/abilities: Tifa grew up in a mountainous area and also served as guide through the region, so she does have some knowledge and know-how for this kind of situation. That being said, I don't think the Nibel area usually gets snow this heavy, so it will be a little intense even for her. That won't stop her from trying to help how she can, whether it's gathering supplies, hunting, using the magic abilities she has to help with starting a fire, etc.
Also, she did get this power gain: "she'll have a sort of built-in internal compass so if she gets lost somewhere, she'll have a tendency to know what the right way is to get "home," whatever that may be in the context of the situation." I'd love to make use of this and have her help people find the way back to their makeshift camp since I imagine it'd be easy to get lost in the snowy conditions.
Supplies: She didn't have to return home, so she likely won't have too much on her, to be honest. Whoops! That's okay, she fights with her fists anyway.
General plans: Tifa is a little bit scared of ghosts, canonically, so I might play with that for the fun of it. She'll try to keep up a brave face, especially given the circumstances, and maybe she can face her fears. Otherwise, she's going to do her best to keep everyone's spirits up and help however she can to make sure they get through the night until rescue of some kind shows up!

Swapped Territory: Free Cities
Original Territory: Thorne
Scenario: Forest and Feywilds, baby!
Helpful skills/abilities:
Supplies: I mean he uses his bag of holding for everything because why wouldn't you? Even so, the only useful thing he'll have that I can think of is a knife. There's probably a forgotten letter somewhere in the bag's recesses that he was supposed to deliver like two months ago now oops.
General plans: I want him to have to injure (kill??) an unimportant NPC in self-defense slash to protect someone he cares about, idk.
jay's dudes
Kyle
Swapped Territory: Free Cities
Original Territory: Thorne
Scenario: ocean + Nether
Helpful skills/abilities: I'm fucking up his ability to travel through the knife dimension, so he's limited to knife hands and maybe short distance burst of travel. He's pretty good at swimming but not so much fishing aside from grabbing fish out of the water. He also has 1) a healing spell he knows and 2) the ability to give someone else's abilities/spell a boost (though he doesn't know it yet). At worst he won't be a hinderance!
Supplies: He's bringing a go bag just in case shit goes south, it will be partially filled with Viktor's stuff but will include some water and jerky (possibly soggy post ocean dunk). He'll also have knives.
General plans: Open for plotting, aside from the ocean rescue - he's getting rescued from drowning with his boyfriend and his buddy by Jack's temporarily lorge dragon racoon. Waiting to see how violent the crater stuff gets on the log though 👀
nanaue
Swapped Territory: N/A
Original Territory: Solvunn
Scenario: forest + feywilds
Helpful skills/abilities: He will eat everything that attacks them.
Supplies: Only his baby bipedal seal child.....
General plans: Do you want the shark to protect you? HE GOOD AT THAT.

Claude researches poisons as a hobby including the components to make them (and has possibly made a few during his stay in Abraxas) so I was wondering, is there anything he might be able to identify in the flora as obviously poisonous or is it all specific to the Feywilds? I was thinking it's probably the latter though if there is anything he'd recognize, I was also thinking it'd be the lesser poisons so as to not take all of the danger out of the situation.
As a second question along those lines, he may have some minor antidotes with him. I wanted to check if it'd be reasonable if any of those might lessen the effects of anything ingested, from a wound, or whatever else. Totally good with those doing nothing or backfiring like the magic, I just didn't want to assume either way!
Thank you!
no subject
Swapped Territory: Thorne
Original Territory: Free Cities
Scenario: Claude's headed to the forest to later go to the Feywilds! I'm very excited to see what's going on here after their original visit back in the day.
Helpful skills/abilities:
- Good in combat! He's more of a range fighter and prefers archery, but will protect someone both actively if they're in danger or as a bodyguard type situation.
- Skilled with poisons... or at least those he knows. I have a question into the mods about whether he can recognize anything here when it comes to more obvious things since I don't want to take the danger out completely, so this might be less useful. Regardless, he can for sure recognize the signs of poisoning and try to alleviate it.
- Minor survival skills: both from training and later war at home, and from camping in Abraxas. Also The Pit, but Claude isn't likely to mention that part. Either way, he can help set up a shelter, gather supplies, that sort of thing.
- He also has magic that I'm going to play around with a bit when it comes to it being inconsistent. His main magic is healing spells (definitely going to not quite work) and wind magic from his canon. For his power gains from in game, I'm thinking his navigating one of being able to view the night sky is also absolutely malfunctioning, and maybe his ability to create ice actually creates fire instead. We'll see!
- Morale, maybe? Claude's great at staying calm no matter the situation and tends to approach everything as a puzzle, so the same will be true here. He'll be there to support someone else and is used to taking on a leadership role.
Supplies:
- For weapons: his bow and arrows since he'd brought them with to the Nether, plus a couple of small daggers hidden on his person
- Bag of holding for storage (he also has a bunch of miscellaneous things in here, mostly related to research)
- Some minor antidotes equivalent to the healing power of a basic first aid kit, mostly to relieve symptoms or injuries for a bit rather than cure them. He'll leave that to those who know far better healing magic!
- He'll also have some warm clothes from Thorne to share if someone else needs them.
General plans: As usual I'm up for anything this event whether it's serious or more comedic to find some lighter moments in between... well, everything else. I'm not going to do an open top level this time but I'm up for plotting and writing a closed starter, so don't hesitate to reach out!
james sunderland | silent hill 2 | free cities - solvunn
Character Name: James Sunderland
Swapped Territory: Solvunn
Original Territory: Free Cities
Scenario: Forest
Helpful skills/abilities:
although somewhat useless, he's able to handle firearms and other weapons well enough and although his stint in the military at the free cities didn't last very long, he's still technically a part of it. he also now has the ability to heal very minor wounds/ailments through speech, but whether or not he will actually use it is up for debate.
Supplies:
he's really only going to have the coat wanda provided him a while back.
General plans:
I love the idea of the forest being dark and mysterious, and genuinely bringing out his trauma/fears and maybe a bit of a mental break. If anyone wants to involve their character in this manner where James appears out of it and references silent hill madness, please sign me up for it! I'm going to hit up the actual event itself as soon as possible!

Antidotes can be used! They might not be as effective against stronger poisons, but you're free to determine the efficacy based on your goals in the thread.
