EVENT #23: CROSSROADS - OOC POST
Event #23 - OOC Plotting
After the majority of the Summoned were displaced last month, officials have gone out of their way to make sure the unexpected arrivals were accommodated while also seeking a solution to return everyone home. With the Singularity as unpredictable as ever, no one wants to risk upsetting the balance of the world any further.
As a result, officials have organized a meeting on neutral ground to sort out the mess. All of the Summoned must be there. Authorities will stress that if there is even one Summoned unaccounted for, it could put the tentative peace established at risk - and potentially destroy any chance of the displaced Summoned reuniting with their friends and loved ones.
This meeting will take place on FEBRUARY 18, at a safe distance away from the Singularity's expanding crater. Upon arrival, a series of events will occur and, instead of being returned to their territories, characters will find themselves on the run. They will eventually be given refuge by one of the three minor territories depending on where they end up: Nocwich, the Nether, and the Feywilds.
IC, officials will not arrest or physically force anyone to go. However, OOC, this event is dependent on characters being at the neutral location. Therefore, please find a way to make sure your character ends up where they need to be.

Leading Up
Leading up to the event, characters will be informed via a written summons of what will be happening. If characters ask, they will be reassured that should they wish to remain in their new territory, they will be allowed to do so but they must still attend the meeting itself. Officials will note that it's in everyone's interests that this proceeds peacefully and that nations recognize that the Summoned are greatly important - and their well-being is the highest priority.
On the meeting day, characters will be transported by portal, which officials have tested and promised is safe. Though the Singularity did not go dormant during the Dimming, it does appear to have settled down somewhat over the past few weeks, and portals are now much more stable again.
Each person may bring a few personal possessions if they've acquired any and want to bring it back to their home territory (or if they wish to have it with them during the exchange). This includes weapons, small pets, and anything else that can fit into a shoulder bag or a backpack.

Note that going into endgame, characters will have to give up larger possessions like mounts, homes, and furniture until the game's conclusion.
Regarding carriable items, in addition to the few possessions they can bring with them in this event, there will be an opportunity in the future for lower influence characters to help others retrieve any items left in their original territory. As a result, don't worry too much about what your character should bring to this exchange itself.

At the Exchange
A series of decisions, not all of them supported by every official, will cause the supposedly peaceful exchange to break down completely. We'll detail exactly what happens in the IC Event Log. Broadly speaking, characters will find their lives at stake and will be forced to flee into the Singularity's crater itself, where none of the natives can follow.
Upon crossing the threshold, characters will feel a strange pull toward the Singularity. They will not be drawn into the Horizon as usual. Rather, a sudden flare of light will consume them, and they will be transported without rhyme or reason to one of the three areas (or "scenarios") below:
In-game, characters will not know and cannot choose where they're teleported to. Out-of-character, players can pick. You should choose the scenario based on which minor territory you want your character to end up in. Every minor territory will be assigned to one of the three scenarios above.
Scenario assignments are as follows:

A. The mountains bordering the eastern side of the Singularity. Characters who were part of the escape group during the Invocation event will find this area familiar.
B. The deadened forest at the border between the jagged Fey mountains and the Duskwoods, south of the Feywilds.
C. In the middle of the ocean, slightly eastward of where Tornis sank. Characters who end up in the water will be given a "raft" through old friends deep beneath the sea so they will not drown or sink.

Scenario assignments are as follows:
A. Characters placed in the mountains will be intercepted by NOCWICH.
B. Characters placed in the forest will be intercepted by THE FEYWILDS.
C. Characters placed in ocean will be intercepted by THE NETHER.
Each minor territory will rescue the Summoned lost in the area we've "assigned" to them. It will not be possible for you to choose the minor territory directly. You must choose through the scenario your character will be sent to.
Surviving
Characters will land relatively close together, but some might be separated by a walk of anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours. How you play it is your choice, but ultimately, all the Summoned in their areas should end up together. Once gathered, they'll need to survive their scenario for 36 hours before rescue arrives.
◎ Powers & Abilities
After being teleported, character abilities and powers will be unstable. The effect can last anywhere from a couple of hours to the full 36 hours. This does not mean the ability won't work at all. Instead, the ability will be unpredictable and could backfire or affect something unintended.
Choose the length of time that best suits your plotting needs. The mechanic's purpose is to ensure the survival aspect remains a key element for your character. For example, if you need your character to have a reason to avoid using an ability that would break the event or you simply want to give them a hard time, you can rely on this power instability.

◎ Environment
Other threats will be detailed on the IC Event Log. We've outlined a brief overview of what to expect for each scenario so you can start to plot.
A. The MOUNTAINS will be extremely cold. Ice and wintering beasts are a major threat, and food is scarce. Characters should hunker down for the night, build a fire, and make some shelter to stay warm. An unusual spirit also haunts the area, whipping up a dangerous blizzard.
B. The FOREST will be extremely dark and filled with a strange energy. Fey beasts can be a danger. Environmental traps, venomous animals, and poisonous flora fill the area, making it difficult to know what can or can't be eaten or touched.
C. The OCEAN is freezing in winter. Characters will need to climb aboard the "raft" quickly where, fortunately, they will be dried off with an unexpected magic. Nonetheless, the icy winds and ocean waves are powerful, so characters must work to ensure the raft doesn't capsize.
Rescue
The rescue will take place at the end of the event. NPCs representing each minor territory will arrive to bring your characters to safety, though there is a unique figure for the Feywilds. Although Nocwich and the Nether will not undergo many changes, the Feywilds will have some noticeable differences. If you participated in the Feywilds event and are planning to return your character there, please note that the land has now been abandoned...and a very, very old face has emerged instead.
Characters will spend March in their new place of refuge. The 2-part concluding event will be posted in April and May, and the "epilogue" will be posted in June. The concluding event will bring everyone together so characters will only be separated into territories for one more month.
While in the minor territories, characters will have brief windows where they can visit another territory for a short period (1-2 days). The minor territories aren't interested in preventing characters from traveling, but they are cautious of attracting attention and will caution the Summoned to limit portal travel beyond their borders.

Notes
Ability or Transformation Gain
Characters will receive a gain of either one physical alteration or one new magical spell/ability. While this gain can be anything, we encourage people to consider a gain that suits their experiences throughout the event. Gains should be minor and not overly powerful. See Reward Gains to learn more.
To request your gain, submit it as usual on the upcoming Activity Check form.

Questions and Answers
If after reading these you're still unsure about anything, or your question wasn't covered, please feel free to hit up our Questions thread below!
- I want my character to go to a specific location, but I don't want to miss out on interacting with an NPC from another territory. What should I choose?
- If you have a good reason to speak to an NPC from another territory and a clear goal for the conversation in mind, just use the Plot Engagement post and we'll work with you to set the meeting up. Picking a territory won't lock you out of NPC interactions by default!
- Is it possible to visit each other once characters are rescued and in their new territories?
- Yes, there will be small windows of opportunity for in-person interactions across territories. However, there won't be a freely open portal and characters will be advised to limit how long they stay. Generally speaking, characters can visit each other once or twice throughout the month for a couple days at a time, but not more than that.
- How long will my character be in this new territory?
- Just a month. After that, things will change further and all characters will be brought together in one location.
- Can I know more about the mission for lower-influence characters?
- It won't be relevant for the upcoming event so don't worry too much about it yet! We'll give you all the details on the Wrap-Up.
- Can I injure my character or have them defend themselves from NPCs? Can my character kill or injure anyone in return?
- Yes! Just be reasonable about how much damage you're doing and how many NPCs are affected. Try to limit it to a small handful or your immediate area. This is just to ensure consistency in events across the setting for all players.
- What if my character will actively avoid entering the crater?
- The crater will also be expanding at the same time, so you may have your character be accidentally caught up in its spreading borders. Merely crossing the threshold a few inches will be more than enough to teleport them to one of the three scenarios.
- How tough will it be for characters to survive if my character isn't normally the type?
- Characters will face challenges, but they'll be able to find resources and rely on each other. Characters who aren't typically the survival type won't find the situation unmanageable. The Summoned will only need to make it through one full night before rescue arrives.
- Do I need to declare where my character is going beforehand?
- No, your decision will only be formalized once you write your character into their scenario on the IC Event Log. We will not be organizing who goes where nor will we be taking numbers into account. Choose what works best for you!
tifa lockhart | final fantasy vii
Swapped Territory: N/A
Original Territory: Solvunn
Scenario: Mountains / Nocwich
Helpful skills/abilities: Tifa grew up in a mountainous area and also served as guide through the region, so she does have some knowledge and know-how for this kind of situation. That being said, I don't think the Nibel area usually gets snow this heavy, so it will be a little intense even for her. That won't stop her from trying to help how she can, whether it's gathering supplies, hunting, using the magic abilities she has to help with starting a fire, etc.
Also, she did get this power gain: "she'll have a sort of built-in internal compass so if she gets lost somewhere, she'll have a tendency to know what the right way is to get "home," whatever that may be in the context of the situation." I'd love to make use of this and have her help people find the way back to their makeshift camp since I imagine it'd be easy to get lost in the snowy conditions.
Supplies: She didn't have to return home, so she likely won't have too much on her, to be honest. Whoops! That's okay, she fights with her fists anyway.
General plans: Tifa is a little bit scared of ghosts, canonically, so I might play with that for the fun of it. She'll try to keep up a brave face, especially given the circumstances, and maybe she can face her fears. Otherwise, she's going to do her best to keep everyone's spirits up and help however she can to make sure they get through the night until rescue of some kind shows up!
