Event #5 - The Dimming - Wrap-up & OOC Announcement

Event #5 - The Dimming - Wrap-Up

As the Singularity's power begins to grow once again, we conclude our first PvP event for the Dimming! The Summoned in each faction faced off against one another to either deliver the caskets to the Singularity or bring them back to their respective faction leaders. Thanks to your efforts, the results are as follows...

Thorne successfully delivered six caskets into the Singularity while ten were confiscated by the Free Cities and Solvunn.

Faction Participants* Caskets (Initial) Caskets (Final)
Thorne 8 15 6
Free Cities 6 0 5
Solvunn 7 0 4

*Please note that participant numbers are specific to Thorne players who offered to carry caskets and those who responded to intercept those caskets. This does not include others who elected to go and perform supportive roles, but their contributions will also be recognized!

Returning to the factions

The Kingdom of Thorne

Though caskets were lost in the delivery process, six at a time is more than has ever been possible. The Summoned who offered their services will be met with a post-mission banquet to celebrate their successes. Those that lost caskets will be politely questioned by Ambrose's mages to glean information on who and to what they lost the casket to.

In the days that follow, Ambrose reports that the Singularity appears to be more vibrant in its reawakening than it ever has been following the Dimming in decades past. This year is marked as a turning point thanks to the efforts of the Summoned.

These monumental achievements are cause for much celebration amongst the locals as well. The Summoned in Thorne are hailed as heroes not only for taking on the burden that Thorne has carried since time immemorial, but to accomplish so much and spare the life of a citizen is no small feat. The Summoned may find themselves more often greeted with a smile and genuine thanks from the populace and may even receive seasonal gifts from complete strangers. Any who still bear scars of their battles are eagerly offered healing or medical care as the dimming lessens and Abraxan magic regains its strength. They all know who you are.

Participants are awarded a medallion approximately 1.25 inches (~3cm) in diameter that can be worn as a charm, jewelry, or adorned to clothing in the character's fashion of choice. They are also awarded the title of the Venerable.

The Free Cities

Prime Minister Marlo is overjoyed! Not only did the Summoned of the Free Cities manage to capture six of Thorne's caskets, but it seems they were also more successful than Solvunn. Some even believe the Free Cities' champions were able to intercept as many caskets as Thorne was able to deliver, which is a strong point of pride. The collected caskets are readily received by engineers working under Aleksander's direction and wheeled off for proper analysis. In a show of gratitude for their efforts and successes, participants will receive an Official Missive of thanks signed by the Prime Minister herself and a bank note worth a gold piece. Don't spend it all in one place!

While the Summoned were battling at the crater, the Free Cities continued their celebrations. Upon their return, Marlo gives a spirited speech to the citizens of Cadens, heralding the successful capture of Thorne's greedily hoarded energies. This newfound source of power marks a great win not only for the Free Cities but for the advancement of their technology. This announcement is met with overwhelming applause as well as a few of incidental explosions set off by well-meaning and slightly inebriated supporters equipped with this year's latest innovations in firecracker and noisemaker technology.

At the Festival of Enlightenment's end, there is a sudden decline in activity in the Free Cities as the nigh endless celebrations finally die down and all must face the consequences of their merriment. But through tired eyes and hangovers, the Summoned will find that they receive cheers from locals and may be invited in to various afterparties by strangers as well as random gifts or knickknacks. Exploits of the Summoned at the Singularity are recounted in competing papers alongside opinion columns on what new technologies will come out of the fruits of their labor.

Participants are awarded a medallion approximately 1.25 inches (~3cm) in diameter that can be worn as a charm, jewelry, or adorned to clothing in the character's fashion of choice. They are also awarded the title of the Vanguard.

The Solvunn Commune

The Council is equally pleased to receive the four caskets that were taken from Thorne and the Solvunn mages will take the caskets away to an undisclosed location away from the Primary Settlement. All thank the Summoned who participated for being devoted to the Gods that protect these lands. While all in the commune are expected to do their part, each of the volunteers will receive a small piece of parchment that acts as a voucher for a small favor from the council that can be collected at a later time.

Likewise an undertaking of his scale does not go without notice for the locals either. Winifred addresses those gathered at the Primary Settlement near the end of the Dimming's festivities, proudly sharing news of the successful interception of the energy stored in Thorne's caskets. Capturing them for Solvunn may have prevented the Singularity from being overwhelmed at a time during it's natural slumber, while simultaneously keeping them out of the hands of the loose cannons of the Free Cities. This is met by applause and prayer.

The Summoned, while still expected to work as usual within the community, will find themselves on the receiving ends of small gifts and blessings from the locals. They are seen as currently being favored by the Gods and may also receive extra goods or services when they seek supplies and work as means of thanks.

Participants are awarded a medallion approximately 1.25 inches (~3cm) in diameter that can be worn as a charm, jewelry, or adorned to clothing in the character's fashion of choice. They are also awarded the title of Vassal.

The Aftermath

While each faction celebrates its successes and reevaluates its losses, the tensions between the three powers is the highest it has been in centuries. The power of the Singularity slowly returns as the days once again grow longer and the locals of each faction prepare to weather the remaining winter months.

But all does not stay quiet.

In the weeks that follow, emissaries bearing the flags of the Kingdom of Thorne are seen crossing the borders into Cadens and the Primary Settlement alike. They meet with the leaders of each faction over the course of a few days before leaving the same way they came. No immediate addresses are made by the Free Cities Officials or the Solvunn Council, but rumors across each of the factions begin to spread in the wake of the emissary's departure.

Locals say that a meeting face-to-face between government officials has been been rare at best in recent history. Recent events at the Singularity are speculated to be the catalyst, but with no confirmation on what the visit entailed, both locals and the Summoned alike are left to draw their own conclusions.

My character was unsuccessful, can they still gain influence?
Yes, participation is all that is needed.
If my character didn't participate, how will the locals react?
While individuals who participated may receive special attention if recognized, locals in each faction will regard all Summoned with more respect thanks to the actions of a few! Whether your character appreciates that or not is up to you.

hi there mods! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THIS. one clarifying question!

when you say titles/medallions are for those who volunteered - does that include the support positions that went? or are they only for those who volunteered to involve themselves with the casket/are part of the number of participants included in the chart?
