TEST DRIVE MEME #1

TEST DRIVE MEME
Welcome to the very first test drive meme for Abraxas! This meme is run a little bit differently than most in that you'll be asked to choose one of the two different arrival scenarios below for your character to take. If you have any questions about this mechanic or anything else related to the TDM, please take a look at the questions below or ask one of your own here. For general game questions please still use the FAQ.

Arrival

You awaken suspended in the abyss, silent darkness stretching out in all directions. If you try to yell, you'll find that the sound doesn't carry. If you try to move, you'll find it's impossible to tell whether or not you're actually getting anywhere. If you reach for an item you were carrying last time you remember being awake, your hand will only touch bare skin.

You're naked and floating helplessly through the void, and what little air you have in your lungs is running out.

There's a pinprick of light that almost looks like a faraway star but as it grows it becomes clear that it's actually quite close. Through the opening you can see a bright room, but it's hard to make out any individual objects, as if you're looking from beneath rippling water.

A hand plunges through and you realize water is just what it is. Whether you take hold of the hand or not it will grab you and yank you up through the surface, lifting you out until you're sprawled on solid ground. Once you catch your breath, you can get a better look at the surroundings: tall trees and even taller stone pillars surround the platform you're laying on. Behind you is an ornate fountain, the base of which is so deep and so dark you might be compelled to scramble away from it lest it suck you back in to that endless abyss. Ahead of you are the walls of a large castle with several tall towers reaching up towards the sky.

If you had any powers, they feel unusually weak. Attempts to use magic or enhanced strength or powers of any sort fizzle out without any effect, but they don't feel completely gone, either.

Set into an indent on a marble slab behind the fountain is a card baring the image of one of the arcana.

An apprentice mage - the one whose hand lifted you out of the fountain - brushes the water off on their robes and runs back to join a group of three others, who all stare intently at a mage with highly decorated robes and a large, heavy book. He peers up at you for a moment and starts flipping through the book.

"I beg your pardon," he says, so absorbed in the pages of the book that he doesn't bother to look up, "I am Ambrose Rhett, the High Mage of the Kingdom of Thorne. One of my apprentices will explain everything in a moment, but please refrain from yelling and thrashing about until then. You're quite alright, and screaming gives me a hell of a headache."

Regardless of your response, he keeps flipping through the heavy tome, until he stops on one specific page, stares at it for a moment, and then exclaims:

"Aha!"

Scenario One: Welcome to Thorne

Ambrose's expression brightens, eyes twinkling with delight. He waves one of the apprentices over with a fine silk tunic, pants, and some basic sandals and with a wave of his hand they reshape to fit you perfectly.

"Success! It's a success!" he exclaims, slamming the book shut and scurrying towards you.

Now that he's not hunching over the book, he doesn't seem quite so stuffy and inapproachable. The apprentices all seem quite relieved at his jovial outburst, and the one that handed you the tunic stops to take the tarot card down from the marble slab. If you show any curiosity about the card, they'll let you take a longer look, but won't let you touch it.

"Please, come with me, you're an honored guest here," he says, motioning for you to follow him towards the castle, "As promised, my pupils will explain your current situation. And, ah - if you had any magic of your own, or other special abilities you can't access right now, fear not, they'll return within the week. The summoning takes a lot out of you."

One of the apprentices steps forward and rattles on and on about the castle, Thorne itself, the names of a bunch of royals and nobles, and of course, your reason for being here. The Kingdom and the world itself is in great peril, and tales of your exploits have reached far and wide across universes. If asked about these exploits, the apprentice will simply smile and shrug. The High Mage was happy to see you and that's good enough.

Once inside the castle you're taken to the North Wing, which has been set up as living quarters for you and your fellow newcomers. There are four people to a room, but each generously-sized bed has opaque curtains that can be drawn around it. You can meet your roommates here and discuss your shared situation (everyone appears to have arrived within the last few days), or you can wander around and meet the others.

There's also a dining hall stocked with all sorts of fancy food to meet every possible dietary need, and a library filled with epic tales and legends and the history of Thorne. Given that this is the Thorne library, it may be a biased account that makes the Kingdom look a fair bit better than the rest of the world sees them. Last but not least, there's a study hall where a few junior mages (younger and less experienced than the apprentices from earlier) might be willing to teach you some simple elemental magic. Think holding a small flame in the palm of your hand, or blowing a door shut with a gust of wind.

You may also notice that your sign is embroidered on your tunic: the same image you saw on the card from before with the name of the sign itself beneath it. If you ask the castle residents, they'll tell you a little bit about your sign (and will mostly stick to the positives, although some might point out the negatives).

Last (and, if you ask anyone else in the castle, least) there is a worn stone staircase leading underground to the dungeon. You can go there, if you wish, but all powers are restricted in the dungeons and spending too much time with the prisoners will lead to some suspicion being cast upon you. If you ask anyone why the prisoners are being held there, you'll be told that they pose a great threat to the Kingdom (and, by extension, the entire world).

Scenario Two: Imprisoned

The High Mage scowls, grinding his teeth as he slams the book shut. "Another failure!" he barks at the apprentices, "You lot wouldn't know your ass from a hole in the ground, would you?"

All four of them lower their heads, and two of them mumble an apology that Ambrose either doesn't hear or refuses to acknowledge. "Well, don't just stand there," he says, waving a hand in the air, "We've put all this effort into getting this wretched creature, we may as well put it to good use."

One of the apprentices drops a baggy, rough-feeling tunic, a pair of pants, and some worn sandals in your lap and glares down at you until you put them on (if you refuse, they'll tell you they can kick you back down that well if you don't want to cooperate). They're glaring at the High Mage as much as they're glaring at you (when they're sure he isn't looking, anyway). You might catch one of them long enough to ask them why they're so upset with you, but all they'll say is that the High Mage knows something they don't, and he's awfully upset about it.

Once you're fully clothed, another apprentice clamps some heavy iron shackles around your wrists and leads you on. The High Mage is far ahead of you already, muttering some long string of Thornean curses before he stands up straight and pauses, spinning to face you.

"One more thing," he says, holding one hand in the air and chanting something under his breath, "Can't have you getting too troublesome."

If you had powers, the slight connection you still had to them slips away completely and you're left with nothing as the four apprentices drag you towards the castle. They may answer a few of your questions (with some insults and curses peppered in), but they won't tell you anything important.

Once you arrive at the castle you're brought to the dungeons and thrown into a locked cell. There are four people to a cell, and two sets of bunk beds with a thin and lumpy straw mattress. If you're over six feet tall, these beds are going to be awfully uncomfortable. You might as well meet your roommates. Once per day you're dragged out to an enclosed courtyard for one hour of recreation (with some crude weights, benches, and balls lying around but not much else), where you can meet the rest of the prisoners, but you can also talk to your immediate neighbors in the cells on either side and across the hallway. Just don't yell too much or the guards will snap at you to be quiet.

Everyone in the dungeon is fed one meal a day, and for a prison meal it's decent: a bit of meat, a bun, and a salad. It would seem that the Thornean chefs take too much pride in their craft to send bad food to the dungeons. The meals are all served in equal portions, though, so the smaller prisoners may be overfed and the larger ones may be getting hungry. Feel free to fight for food or share with your cellmates.

Crudely embroidered on the back of every prison tunic is the same image that was on your card and the name of the sign beneath it. A guard may explain a bit about the sign, and tell you some negative stereotypes they hold about yours.

You may be blessed with a visit from one of the more welcomed newcomers, and they may sneak you some extra food or a small book to read or they may share some of the information they've gathered. However, rumors travel fast and some people believe the honored guests in the castle above are somehow responsible for the lot of the prisoners below. And although you may hope for kindness, there's nothing stopping them from being cruel to you if they wish. The guards will certainly turn a blind eye if one of them wishes to take out their frustrations on you.

Questions

How do I choose a scenario for my character?
Pick whichever situation appeals to you most. Whether your character is honored or imprisoned has nothing to do with their personal morality, or how highly they regard themselves and their own accomplishments. Anyone can be put into either situation.

Can I try out both scenarios?
You can! But please keep in mind that only the one you eventually choose can be game canon, if you decide to keep any of your TDM threads.

What happens if my character refuses to comply with Ambrose?
Prisoners will be dragged against their will. Honored guests will be forgiven for their moment of panic or anger if they have one, and Ambrose and the apprentice mages will try to calm them and persuade them further. If they put up too much of a fight and/or start actively attacking anyone, Ambrose will warn them once that he's willing to put them back in the well where they came from (see below), and if they continue to fight he will make good on that promise.

My character intends on causing a lot of trouble (destroying parts of the castle, murdering the castle staff, etc.), what would happen to them?
Characters who make too much trouble for the mages and other staff would be thrown back in the well (which will mean drowning in the void, not returning home). Brawling with other PCs and causing minor damage is fine and will be greeted with a cranky attitude (if they are an honored guest) or a punishment like denial of food or temporary solitary confinement (if they are a prisoner), and there will be plenty of opportunity for destruction and murder later, but for now the Thorneans have no desire to keep huge liabilities around.

Ambrose will take it especially personally, as this experiment was his idea and too much trouble would risk the summoning spell being scrapped and potentially result in him being demoted. Rest assured it does not take much for him to throw someone back in the well at this point in time.

Is the power loss for the prisoners permanent?
No, although honored guests will regain their powers first due to the lack of interference from Ambrose, the prisoners will be able to regain theirs soon enough as well.

Can the prisoners talk about anything private, or will they be overheard at all times?
There are guards patrolling the dungeon, but they aren't always within earshot. Most of the attention is being focused on the new guests, so the prisoners will have some opportunities for privacy.

Can my character leave the castle?
For now they will be prevented from leaving the castle, even if they are an honored guest. A bit of a gilded cage, isn't it? They'll also find that any powers they regain cease to work outside of the castle walls (this is also a temporary effect) so flying outside is not an option.

Can my character eventually side against Thorne if I choose to make them an honored guest/can they side with Thorne if I choose to imprison them?
Yes, characters in Scenario 1 will be able to betray Thorne, and characters in Scenario 2 can work themselves into Thorne's good graces.

How much will my choice of scenario affect my character's plot later on?
This choice will have a major impact on gameplay throughout the first few months of the game, and potentially a bit beyond that depending on where our players guide the plot. This decision - and every other major decision you make in game! - will also be used to flavor some mod surprises that will be coming down the line.

Don't get too anxious about this choice, though; this is just one choice you'll get to make in a game that has a lot of them, and every character in both scenarios can work their way towards many, many individual goals and outcomes. You're not locking yourself out of anything in the future via the choice you made on the TDM. It will primarily impact the immediate future with the far-reaching effects being up to each player.

Are TDM threads mandatory for my application?
No, you may use other samples, but we encourage you to post to the TDM and get a feel for this game and its mechanics before you join. If you do not have a TDM thread you will still need to choose one of the two scenarios on your application.

What if I haven't settled on a sign yet?
You can ignore sign-related prompts if you're undecided (or try out different signs in different threads).

Can a put a character on the TDM if their canon is less than 30 days old?
Yes. For this app round, anything that's at least 30 days old when the game opens on June 12th can be applied from.

Do the apprentice mages have names?
Their names are Jeffrey, Grigory, Noelle, and Jolene.

childe (tartaglia) | genshin impact | the chariot

[personal profile] affronts 2021-05-21 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I. WARM WELCOME
[ Success.

As most approach the unfamiliar with confusion, Childe instead offers the same courtesy as their hosts; putting on a practiced smile, nodding with understanding, twisting the silk fabric between his fingers in an effort to keep himself poised. The last thing he wants to express his anger -- not when he's in unknown territory and his powers are, from what he's been told, currently dormant. Though he is confident with his physical prowess, Childe makes the decision to go with the flow of things for the sake of learning what Abyss he's been swallowed into now.

Though it certainly is boring. He's better than to ignore the information provided, because anything is helpful at this point, but what truly catches his attention is their explanation of the world at hand. Only then does he perk a brow in interest, the oblivious shrugging at him causing some blood to boil before he exhales a loud sigh.

His fingers coil, nails digging into his palm, and all he can think of is just who will satisfy this desire inside of him: with a world of man new faces, surely a few could spar with him, right? ]

A war, huh... I assume that means everyone called here at least knows how a few punches. [ Starting the conversation -- after mild introductions -- without any hesitation, Childe looks his "roommate" in the eye with a sense of unrest. ] Though a few people here don't look like much of the fighting type, if you know what I mean. Makes me wonder if they'll start weeding us out -- or maybe they intend for us to do that ourselves?

II. DINING HALL
[ His stay in Liyue certainly spoiled him in enjoying another nations delicacies, but what is spread out before them is something else entirely. Some of the food reminds him of Snezhnaya, while other dishes remain foreign, and while the opportunity of eating fish causes his mouth to water he's still curious of what all is offered to them.

So he's trying everything. Picking at what he likes and dislikes obviously with his fork, chewing wordlessly, and at a quick glance he looks perfectly normal while experimenting the different foods.

Though anyone with a sharp eye may notice some tear in his knuckles, accompanied by a scratch on the side of his neck that has already begun to grow red. It's nothing he seems to acknowledge, at least, because if come to sit near him he perks a brow at your plate, pointing at it with his fork: ]
The veggies are pretty good, so make sure you eat plenty.

III. VISITOR
[ Curiosity leads him to the underground; the subtle dampness in the air, the darkness enveloping them... it's better than the Abyss, but Childe would be a liar if he said he was envious of those imprisoned.

Though he's not here to smuggle food or entertainment, if anything he's here to share information and help later (perhaps). ]

Hey. [ He offers a friendly enough smile, waving a hand as his expression softens. ] Looks like you got the bad end of the stick here, friend, but maybe they'll start letting you folk go on good behavior?

[ Unfortunately, all the words that spill from his mouth sound as if he's antagonizing them -- sorry! He's a bit of a bad guy. ]

IV. WILDCARD

( curiosity! ah, how quaint! yuuta still isn't quite certain of the parameters by which some of the individuals that had been summoned via occult magical spell by way of creepy pitch-black well were declared a "success" and why many others were declared "failures," but he has (of course) landed himself into the latter category. nothing about this surprises him. bad luck tends to follow him — figuratively, now, though in the past it had been very literal. as he always does (and as he had learned to do), he takes things in stride and attempts to extract what little good he can from a terrible situation. information filters oddly down here, but it does filter, seeming to come through the cracks in the stones of the castle and disseminate through the body of prisoners in the form of rumors:

"those that have been welcomed with open arms in the castle above? I've heard they're the reason we're down here in the first place."

he isn't the type to believe everything he hears. it's possible, certainly, but something about it doesn't sit well with him. to divide the newcomers and turn them against one another would be a very easy way to diffuse any animosity they might have toward the High Mage who had seemingly had them summoned here in the first place. it does pique his interest, however, and even without that, a visitor is the most exciting thing that's happened all day (as they haven't yet gotten their single hour out in the yard yet).

so he turns toward childe with rapt attention and, oddly enough, a smile. whereas his visitor's seems to spark and clash against the undercurrent of his words, yuuta's just seems to underline the rest of him: tentative, sincere, and... a little unsettling. even with his cursed energy cut off from him, he still has that vibe. maybe that's why he'd been sent away to the dungeons? anyway — if yuuta picks up on the faint cutting edge in childe's words (he does), he doesn't show any sign of it, remaining open and genial. )

A nice thought, but that might be a little too much to believe, considering behavior seemingly wasn't what landed us in here in the first place. ( at least he doesn't think so? he had barely had time to put together a coherent thought before the old man had declared him a failure. )

Are you looking for someone in particular? ( or just being a tourist in the misfortune of others? )

[personal profile] affronts 2021-05-21 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[ There should be something unsettling in seeing a person so well adapt in these conditions -- keyword being should, but Childe seems to take this all in stride as the other young man does. Canting his head slightly to the side, feigning innocence. There is something intriguing about the fact that there is a divide between who and who isn't suitable to the mages. ]

Not really. [ He hopes his siblings would never have to face that Abyss. Admittedly it was much more tame in comparison to that darkness he had fallen to back home, it doesn't change the fact that any possibility of them being tossed into a cellar would have Childe running rampant.

There's the traveler, however... and, of course, Rex Lapis -- the list goes on of familiar faces he wouldn't mind seeing, but would personally offended to see that they were brought here. ]
I was curious, really, since it seems like our hosts have a clear indication of using us one way or another... it makes me wonder what's the point of throwing you all down here. Perhaps there's something you all have in common?

[ Childe squats down, as if to make himself comfortable. ] Why don't you tell me about yourself?

( kindred spirits, then? perhaps just in practice and not in substance, though — and likely for very different reasons.

he hums, quiet and pensive. )
I see.

( a tourist of misfortune, then! this is already painting quite the picture of his visitor. it isn't a particularly flattering one, but this beggar cannot be a chooser. )

Yes, we certainly didn't seem to be accidental byproducts of whatever they were doing. ( the summoning... afterward, the High Mage had had to refer to a page in his book before declaring him "another failure." from what yuuta could infer, it meant they were trying to fish someone (or multiple someones?) out of the depths with that magic of theirs, but he simply didn't fit the bill of what they were aiming for, for whatever reason. )

I've been trying to figure that out myself. ( yuuta, who has been sitting on the edge of his bunk, shifts where he is sitting so he can face the stranger a little more easily. he rests his wrists on his knees, lacing his fingers together. based on his own asking around, it's hard to draw any easy conclusions between all of them. they were as vastly varied as any random group might be — more so, considering they were seemingly from all sorts of different places.

himself? ah, well... what can he even say? having given away all parts of his life that weren't jujutsu sorcery, most of his life was confidential at this point. but considering his sense of cursed energy had been dampened and then completely cut off shortly after arriving, he doesn't even know if the same rules apply here — )

Oh, me? ( yuuta is attempting to come off as nonchalant, but things often end up off-kilter when he tries to force them. he smiles broadly. ) There's not much to say! I'm a perfectly normal high school student.

( pretty much anyone would be able to tell he's lying. )

They made it quite obvious... sorry if this comes off a little condescending, but it just begs the question of what makes us "qualified" or not. I'm aware of my own strengths, so I'm anticipating [ -- hoping, really. ] for what everyone can put out. [ Because there's no way everyone here is normal. Not when the mages spoke of epic tales and boasted about Childe's own strengths like they were familiar. He assumed they had no idea, that they trusted the word of that damn book for one reason or another; he's curious of the contents there, of what is written and what they follow.

Childe is aware of his strengths, his weaknesses, and everything in between. Of all his battles and how much he pushes his body to such lengths so that he can continue growing stronger, desperate to grow so he can feel the thrill of facing against all kinds of different opponents. He knows of his battles in the Abyss, but others don't -- he knows of his fight against the traveler, and yet most don't.

He wants to tear the information out from their captives, whether it be by brute force or not. But he'll remain patient despite his blood running hot with anticipation. ]

High school? [ Clearly unfamiliar, Childe tilts his head and blinks thrice. ] So... a student. I see! So are you training to be a scholar or a knight?

[ Nier is the complete opposite of Childe in this regard. He's disoriented, confused, and his expression isn't schooled in the slightest. It all shows on his face how somewhat overwhelmed he is by the change of scenery. However, he's doing well. He's composed and calm, not at all skittish that he and everyone else arrived naked without their belongings. Bless them for giving them tunics, at least.

The Kingdom and the world is at great peril, they say. Your exploits are renowned, they add—all he's done is kill a bunch of stuff? This is all weird. Also unlike Childe, adrenaline doesn't kick. Instead, there's worry... While he would like to help, there's too much waiting for him at home.

Childe's voice snaps him out of his thoughts. Blinking a couple of times, it takes him a moment to catch his drift.
]

There's a chance some of them can use magic. [ He throws this out there. Not everyone can be a jock?? ] It's a bit early to consider that, don't you think?

[ ... ]

They do have a dungeon.
affronts: (pic#14912429)

[personal profile] affronts 2021-05-23 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
There is. [ He nods his head; admitting possibilities only fuels him further, however. There's opportunities of finding another opponent in every corner whether they be a magic user or some master of physical arts -- Childe's blood is pumping.

It's selfish. It's a distraction. He doesn't want to think of just how much further away he is from his family now... and all his other responsibilities.

But the Fatui can figure out how to work with his absence. ]
You're absolutely right, actually! It's good for things to be a little unpredictable, even if it means being stuck in a loop. [ Cause they're just experiencing one unexpected mess after another... ]

Oh? Is that where they're sending all of those who didn't meet their expectations?
amain: (pic#14906695)

[personal profile] amain 2021-05-25 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It's good that some of us are in high spirits.

[ He offers a small smile. They all have different ways of coping, so you do what you want to do, Fatui boy. A loop, huh... Nier hopes it isn't like that, unpredictable or not. ]

It sounds like it. I asked about them since I noticed others being led away, but the mages didn't care to tell me more. I kind of want to see what the dungeon's like.

[ Out of curiosity. ]

Oh, yeah. This is your room?

[ Or is it their room? Nier is looking for a place, but he doesn't want to take someone else's claim. There's plenty to go around, too. ]
affronts: (pic#14912437)

[personal profile] affronts 2021-05-29 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Should we adventure it together? I'm told that it's best to work in pairs in dangerous places, haha. [ Where did he hear that -- no one in particular but through the vineyards, possibly, while minding his own business. And though Childe doesn't believe in the thought he's also not going to deny himself a little company. ]

In a sense, though I'm also waiting to be introduced to my roommate... [ He gestures with his hands, a finger pointing towards Nier. ] Which I suspect must be you!

Ah– [ if he didn't speak up, jean honestly wouldn't have noticed him. she doesn't even realize that she's come to his table and sat in a chair across him, her nose stuck in a book she's managed to pick up from the library before joining everyone else in the dining hall. she wishes to learn more about this world, to find a way to return home to mondstadt despite the mages' admittance that they have no idea how.

but as it is, his remark about her food causes her to look up from her book and offer a sheepish smile. it's rude to read in the middle of a meal, jean.
]

So it seems. [ jean sets her book down momentarily, pushing the vegetables around in her plate before finally taking a forkful of it. she might not be in mondstadt anymore, but she still refuses to be picky with her food. ] ... What other dishes do they have that you've managed to try?

[ no, she's not gonna ask if there's pizza because no. ]

[personal profile] affronts 2021-05-23 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Had this been one of his younger siblings, Childe would advice her to put the book down immediately after she had been seated. Eat first, read later; Teucer had a habit of bringing his toys everywhere he went, so it almost comes naturally. Fortunately he saves the embarrassment for both him and Jean because hey he's definitely normal. ]

Their fish is good. [ He says with a nod, idly chewing on his food. ] There was also this sweet but... spicy beef? Pretty good, wasn't too spicy or anything -- kinda stood out on the table.

[ Probably because it was beside some squid dish. ]

But nothing seems poisoned, thankfully.
gunnhildr: (pic#)

[personal profile] gunnhildr 2021-05-23 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
... Thankfully, yes. [ though that gives her a pause, her chewing slowing down and her hand ever so slightly lowering her fork back to the plate.

there's an aftertaste to one of the vegetables she's taken a bite of, and his remark about the food possibly (and thankfully again, not) being poisoned leaves another unpleasant flavour in her mouth. and it doesn't help that she's been stripped clean of all of her familiar implements, including her vision that could help with any instances of poisoning.
]

And did you arrive at this conclusion after you've tried all of those dishes?

[ because that is just reckless. not that she's one to talk, not wanting to be a pot to call out a kettle. ]

[personal profile] affronts 2021-05-25 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It'd be difficult for me to find out if I didn't. [ Not sarcasm. Childe speaks with a leveled tone, clearly serious as he continues to eat without any hesitation. His lips curl into a smile, however, delighted when his tongue tastes another fish dish. ]

I'm only joking, of course... There's a few I decided to leave for others, though, since I don't think I can stomach through everything.

[ Despite the unusual circumstances, Hazama remains fairly calm and collected (perhaps unusually so), greeting his fellow "honored guests" with a friendly smile. Exchanging pleasantries with other arrivals is a good starting point, if only as a way of determining who his future allies (or enemies) might be. ]

I suppose that would make sense, though I can only hope that isn't the case... fighting is not my area of expertise, you see.

[ It's a lie he tells so often even he almost believes it at this point. His smile falters as he lets out a "woe is me" kind of sigh. He fully intends to come off as one of the aforementioned "non-fighting types" for as long as he can, after all. ]

[personal profile] affronts 2021-05-23 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh? That's unfortunate.

[ Like a flame being blown out, Childe's expression doesn't hide his disappointment upon hearing that. Does he believe it? Not entirely -- but at the same time he'll feign naivety for the sake of avoiding seeming suspicious. ]

But it seems like they're willing to give even the most normal of people here a chance to learn, doesn't it? Maybe you'll learn a trick or two via magic.
