There is no formal introduction log for characters joining the game, which means that players are free to introduce their characters however they would like.

Upcoming modplot will be announced on the OOC community and signal boosted on Plurk! Event #9's OOC plotting post is scheduled for the 12th of this month, while the IC event post itself is scheduled to go up on the 15th. Stay tuned! Characters may find the night holds many wonders this time...and a few dangers.

ABOUT YOU: I tend to natter alternately about rp/fandom/irl. Other hobbies include video games, distance running (very slowly), travel when I actually get to do some, attempting to be a foodie. I do really enjoy OOC chatter about our characters - what they're getting up to, what's in their heads, things etc. though I try to avoid making plurk the sole avenue for plotting. I live on the East Coast of the U.S. and am getting back into regular game RP for mostly the first time in a couple of years.

IC INFORMATION

CHARACTER NAME: Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad
CANON: Assassin's Creed
SIGN: The Magician
FACTION: Free Cities

CHARACTER INFORMATION: Altaïr comes from the corner of an alternate-history canon with some interesting wrinkles in how the fiction intersects with the historical record. He is a member of the actual-factual brotherhood of Assassins/the Hashashin, which was a known (if secretive) faction during his era; unlike other AssCreed installments, if you landed in Damascus circa 1191 and asked for directions to the Assassins' fuck-off huge fortress, someone could actually give you directions. (And then ask why the fresh hell you wanted to go there.) So I get to do a lot of fun mental gymnastics regarding where accounts of the real Assassins line up with the fictionalized version, where they fully diverge and where they seem to line up but are really just in-universe cover stories to make Altaïr and his bros look scarier.

He is freshly from the end of the first Assassin's Creed game, which means he has recently gotten a lot wiser about the meaning of his creed, what his place is in the world, and why you shouldn't be an enormous douchebag just because you're a star athlete. With the enthusiasm of a new convert, he's going to try and get up and around and learning about everything, please someone club him in the head so he'll sleep at some point.

Altaïr also has a fun color-coded sixth sense that tells him whether someone is a friend/enemy/etc (NOT whether they are a good/bad person). If you'd like to set a baseline of how your character would appear to him/whether I should OOCly always use/never use/ask before using Eagle Vision on your character, please fill out this handy-dandy permissions post! You can also come back and change it at any time.

CR YOU WANT:
-Explorer buddies
-NERDS who like LEARNING and BOOKS and will tell him where he can get BOOKS
-Shady people (not the kind who hurt innocents, but Altaïr is basically a Professional Shady Person, so)
-People who are like "hmmmm nah" about faction loyalty
-Not specifically looking for negative CR in the "hey let's start a fight" sense, but the dude can be abrasive/his philosophy and way of doing things is absolutely not gonna be everyone's cuppa so if conflict makes sense I'm INTO IT
-People who also like to climb shit

CR YOU DON'T WANT: Literally nothing. Probably the only CR that wouldn't initially work as well is CR that's dependent on characters actively pursuing small talk for the sake of winning friends and influencing people, as Altaïr is pretty to-the-point and doesn't go out of his way to chat just to chat. That said, all he needs is a reason, and I'm happy to come up with one to kickstart a thread, so let's talk!

PLOTS/THREADS/THEMES YOU'RE INTERESTED IN:
-Altaïr's first priority is going to be finding someone who can build him a new hidden blade based on detailed plans and also get some other weapons. I probably have a lead on the former but I'm open to ideas! This dude will make a great weapons customer, you just have to put up with him being a picky ass about the merch quality.
-Money!!! Dude is not materialistic but he's pragmatic enough to understand that he's gonna need some cash to get by and he doesn't plan on signing up to be a soldier, so he'll be looking for ways to earn or steal some cash.
-EXPLORATION!!!! Oh god he wants to explore so bad. At his canon point, he just saw a projection of the world-as-a-globe and had his mind opened to just how much there is to learn, so he wants to check out E V E R Y T H I N G in this new environment. Also he has to get informed if he wants to blend in as needed. Dude is a NERD.
-PHILOSOPHY. Come talk to Altaïr about how you see the world. Then let him tell you his own thoughts. Do you like Empedocles? (said in the same tone of voice as "do you like anime?") He's not going to start recruiting for the brotherhood of Assassins without any infrastructure backing him up, but he'll absolutely seek to share the guidance of their philosophy.
-Murder! Okay, well, this is not ICly a priority, he is an Assassin but doesn't just kill for the sake of killing. That said, it's what he's good at, and I am down to clown with any such plots that involve these skills.

ANYTHING ELSE?: He's bad at emotional connections but the man do love his horsey

Would you guys both be up to thread or does it make more sense that one of them is the client-facing type? I'm all for swan-diving into CR so I'd be fine with two-on-one. I could either hit up Jayce's August log or include a specific prompt in one of Altaïr's — I'm waiting for other newbies to arrive and see if there are other plans to take into account but I feel like I'll probably do an early catch-all for his intro.

We've already talked about them extending lines of credit on plurk, so I was thinking Altaïr would be interested in acquiring a sword if one is available (maybe some knives too? maybe not yet, he does need a reason to be a repeat customer) immediately, and possibly come back with payment for it + the hidden blade, since I'd like that to take a little longer. I want to be mean to him and not let him get a new one immediately. >)

We could justify this ICly by 1) it's the first time they've made one and it's a tricky mechanism 2) Altaïr is gonna be a picky bitch about the exact specifications, metal quality etc 3) I guess they probably have other stuff going on in their lives? Shocking, their days do not revolve around the schedule of one shady asshole who just wandered in.

I would like to sign up for Philosophy just bc geralt simultaneously exists in a pretty violent world but spent a chunk of his childhood in a temple learning ~balance~ (but also how to murder real good)

Also he has 0 faction loyalty and he likes to climb some

That's a good start! Maybe Altaïr can teach him in exchange for learning something from Geralt as well. In any case he wouldn't make fun of any non-graceful landings out loud

Yes I'd love that! If they get to that Trust stage Geralt would be open to teaching him some Witcher signs in return if he wants a little side combat magic. (It's ok to make fun of him.)

HELLO I would very much like to throw them together for something! I'm canon blind for the most part BUT I feel like they would get along well. Claude is also into climbing and exploring, tends to have about 85 books on 85 different topics in his possession at any given time, and has no interest in Free Cities loyalty. Also he would be 150% invested in a philosophy talk or talks as he has Strong Feelings about that but also loves to hear others' thoughts, so I'm here for a deep rooftop chat between them sometime or anything else that would work!

I am likewise canonblind but this sounds like a hella promising start. What's Claude up to on the day to day? I'm assuming he's been around for a bit already unless the mods just updated the taken page at lightning speed.

EXCELLENT Claude's been here for about a couple months now so he's not too far behind Altaïr! He's mostly been settling in and just branched out into picking up random jobs because money, and in between he also helps out at Mag's Inn where he lives along with I think a good number of the other Free Cities summoned. Other than that he's also been checking out every library he can to get his hands on those 85 books and roaming Cadens to figure things out. He'd be happy to share what he knows if that came up between them or we can handwave it and say he did, I'm flexible with whatever would work best!

steve and altaïr are in the same faction so it may be easier for them to meet initially, BUT my other character thancred from ffxiv is much more of a spy/espionage/sneaking around in the dark type, so i think CR with them could be really interesting too!

Eeeexcellent. I'm planning an open log with various starters for this week, so if something there pings you that'd be one way to get going, but if nothing does I'm open to coming up with a more specific setup. Oh! And I should mention that Altaïr and Kaz had a good conversation on the tdm that we're bringing into game canon, so there's that connection too.
