There is no formal introduction log for characters joining the game, which means that players are free to introduce their characters however they would like.

Upcoming modplot will be announced on the OOC community, signal boosted on Plurk and listed on the Calendar! Please be aware that Event #6, scheduled for the 18th of this month, will offer opportunities for characters from different factions to meet up in a (mostly, and temporarily) friendly environment...

So, Emet-Selch is - among other things - responsible for creating the closest thing FFXIV has to the Empire in Star Wars. If conversations with fellow sketchy people is your jam, I'd be up for that, although it'd probably have to be in the Horizon since Emet is in Solvunn.
