Mod Communications
If you have an idea related to the event plot, communicate and coordinate with us here. This includes NPC meetings, requesting resources, destroying the environment, or anything else that may require mod permission. If we can't accommodate a request for any reason, we'll do our best to offer an alternative!

Randomization Request
Request a mod dice roll at any time for outcomes and consequences. Some actions require a dice roll to proceed, such as attacking an acolyte NPC or attempting to break anything major in the environment (chains, doors, walls). If you aren't sure, you can check with us.

Notable Actions
Submit notable actions that are likely to gain attention from other players, such as fights or disturbances.

IC Exchanges
Use this option for interactions you'd like to play out, but setting up a standard IC thread would be impracticable. For instance, if your character wants to speak to several people about an event they witnessed together, you might want to do an IC exchange.
Treat this like an informal IC network thread done in person, where character reactions, snippets of dialogue, and other details can be quickly played out and concluded in-game without committing to a full log thread. Exchanges are game canon and can count towards Activity Check under the category of a Network thread.
Start an IC exchange
Using the provided form is optional. Begin a thread freeform if you prefer.

Investigations
Several investigation paths are available for characters to interact with. Each assignment group will have their own set of investigation paths. You can investigate something as many times as you want, as long as there's a reasonable explanation for your character making their second attempt. Interacting with investigations might carry IC consequences. We'll try to telegraph when characters are at high risk of triggering something major. To investigate, fill out the form, then comment under the item you're investigating.

Others point out that seabirds and other flying beasts can cover vast distances and drop things as they go, so that might be the cause.
Eventually, one elderly fisherman pulls them aside. He describes that 2 weeks ago, his nephew went out to sea and didn't return. There was no storm, and his nephew was a skilled seaman so his disappearance is unusual. No wreckage was found.

Since he has access to the portal between Aquila and Cadens, Sam will also request some of the mechanical birds to be sent out to sea to search for boats, wreckage, islands, etc., (if that hasn't already been done and exhausted). With their increased flight time, Sam figures they should be able to make the distance to the fishing grounds and where the nephew disappeared.
While they're looking into leads and waiting for responses, Sam and Jesper discuss the possibility of taking a boat out and diving below the surface to chase any leads. While neither of them are confident in their own diving abilities, they would be willing to promote going to the government(s) to secure funds for a research mission. Ideally it would include someone who would act as a local scout/captain and someone who can free dive, if actual diving equipment is not available.

The military will agree to send the birds out in that area as requested. The birds will report one potential wreckage, but the technology isn't good enough to determine whether it's driftwood, a boat, or something else. The two of them might want to go look for themselves.
Regarding diving, the Free Cities has rudimentary diving equipment similar to what can be found during the Victorian era. The scientists are rather eager to take more notes to improve the design, so they're happy to let either Sam or Jesper try it without charge. They assure the pair that it's been tested before and all volunteers have survived, but for legal purposes a form must be signed accepting the risks involved.
One of them should remain on the surface to ensure they can pull their partner back up out of the depths in case anything goes wrong. They can borrow a suitable boat that takes them out to sea. A local sailor can guide them, but he's not an expert on diving and so Sam and Jesper will be on their own.
They can go to the wreckage location the bird discovered and dive in that area if they want to explore what might be underneath, or you can choose to let them dive elsewhere.

Should they do so, he will tell them that this does not belong to his nephew. In fact, there are no signs of that boat at all or any accident that might've occurred at sea, suggesting that both the missing nephew and his boat were taken to parts unknown.
The wreckage can also yield a silver locket with the name "Florian" etched on the back. They can spend a little extra time to find and return it to its owner if they want. While the woman's husband seems to have simply been a victim of an unfortunate storm at sea, she'll be grateful to have the memento back.
