There is no formal introduction log for characters joining the game, which means that players are free to introduce their characters however they would like.

Upcoming modplot will be announced on the OOC community, signal boosted on Plurk and listed on the Calendar! Please be aware that Event #6, scheduled for the 18th of this month, will offer opportunities for characters from different factions to meet up in a (mostly, and temporarily) friendly environment...

ABOUT YOU: HI ALL I'm Court and I'm new around these parts. I've been meaning to app in for a while and the timing finally worked out! I literally just started a new job today, so apologies if I'm a little brain-frazzled as I get settled into things, but it's work from home so that's pretty sweet. I love video games (FFXIV, obviously, but I also enjoy a lot of other stuff) and am in a few TTRPGs now — my life is just making a bold attempt to juggle too many hobbies. CHARACTER NAME: Thancred Waters
CANON: Critically Acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV
SIGN: Strength
FACTION: Thorne

CHARACTER INFORMATION:
Thancred is part of an organization called the Scions of the Seventh Dawn who are dedicated to protecting the realm of Eorzea (and beyond) while not being tied to any one nation, allowing them to not be tied down by political obligations. They do things like fighting primals (false gods), saving the realm from ancient beings who want to bring about calamities, and lots of other fun stuff. Thancred is particularly skilled in espionage, so he is here for infiltration, reconnaisance, subterfuge, survivalism... the list goes on. He comes off as cocky and charming at first glance, but in reality holds himself to a very high standard where he's constantly trying to prove himself, womp womp. He has gone through some character development in that arena and also had to learn how to be a dad. He's also done this song and dance with getting whisked to another world before, so he'll maybe handle it better than some other newly summoned.

Oh, right, and because of some things he went through in canon, Thancred is physically incapable of using magic. Naturally, I had to drop him in Thorne.

CR YOU WANT:
Given that he's brand new, I think I'm allowed to get away with one "everything," BUT:
• In all honesty, Thancred is pretty amiable and will strike up a conversation quite easily with just about anyone, though sometimes it might be for an ulterior motive. He might not be 100% open about himself at first, but he also isn't completely a closed book. He's just playing his cards close to the chest for now.
• THORNE PALS, COME AT ME. I'm down for keeping all TDM threads with Thorne people canon!
• Someone to tell him more about the Horizon and help him to get access would be great! This will likely have to be someone in Thorne.
• He'd like a knife. Maybe two. He'd like a gun(blade) even more. Anyone wanna help a guy out?
• He's going to be doing a ton of snooping around and at some point will probably be trying to sneak into somewhere he shouldn't be to get more information on Thorne and the royal family, etc. Not sure how this is going to go but it may or not be a disaster and if anyone wants on that messy train, I'm down.
• Despite all his sneaky stuff, he also fills the tank role, so if you need someone to jump into a fight and take some hits, he's your guy.
• Thancred's very close to Himeka, so anyone who is also close to her (or, conversely, who has negative CR with her) is bound to get the third degree from him. Or he'll at least be curious about them.
CR YOU DON'T WANT: Nothing's coming to mind, tbh. I am literally down for anything and if our CR turns out to be negative, I love that too. Just expect Thancred to get real sassy if that happens, he doesn't hold back.
PLOTS/THREADS/THEMES YOU'RE INTERESTED IN: Once Thancred finds out that Himeka is here he's definitely going to base a lot of his impressions about the factions and what needs to be done in this world on her impressions, but! Beyond that, I honestly love the idea of him getting into some double/triple agent spy nonsense with playing the factions off of each other, feeding information from Thorne out or vice versa, etc. etc. I don't have a fully formed plan here yet but it's something I'd love to try and work on if the opportunity presents itself.

It feels like Edelgard and Thancred probably need to get to know each other more so they can realize their goals sort of line up. Having a sneaky guy around to snoop for info would be a good connect for Edelgard to have.

(As an aside, Goro tried to do a little murder on Himeka back during the PVP event so that's probably not going to endear him to Thancred any)

Oh for sure! I'm guessing that Thancred will ultimately not end up being a big fan of Thorne once he finds out that they had Himeka locked up for a good while, etc so... destabilizing from within is definitely a path he could go down too! It'd probably take both of them a bit to trust each other enough to share plans like that, but some of Edelgard's background sounds a lot like some events in FFXIV, even if they weren't things that Thancred was front and center for. Bad churches, dragons? He's heard all about that.

(GORO... yeah, he will not be pleased if he ever finds out about that, LMFAO.)

He's a slow burn character so I have no concrete offers either but Bishop Sasarai is a spymaster of sorts in his canon and would definitely hire out someone like Thancred. He wouldn't be fond of Thancred also spying on Thorne but he's not super wise, so Thancred should be able to get away with that.

Oh man, I have actually played through the Suikoden games (1-3, anyway) but it has been 1000 years so my memory is pretty spotty. Regardless, I would love to get Thancred and Sasarai talking and see where it goes! It would probably take a little bit for Thancred to open up about the "I can do spy things" stuff, but I'm totally down for slow burn.

And then FANDANIEL... if/when Thancred learns he's around that will be a fun time. Can all of these Ascians please just leave him alone. (In other words, totally down for some negative CR there!)

It will be a while before Fandaniel openly reveals himself but Sasarai is a busy body around Thorne so getting him and Thancred to meet should be easy!

Also I forgot to mention, but if Thancred runs into Emet in the Horizon, Emet is at his full Amaurotine size in the Horizon! He can shrink down to 'proper' human sizes if he wants but... he might not be particularly inclined to, for Thancred.

OH, SAME HERE. I remember some time ago seeing you say in a Plurk that you'd like to have a Thancred around, so I'm so glad that we feel similarly about this disaster CR!

Now I need to decide if he meets Himeka or Emet first. DECISIONS, DECISIONS...

Ronan approaches every newbie in Thorne and offers to give them anything they want, so he can definitely provide knives and/or gunblade to Thancred. He and Kylo work as a kind of welcome committee and Kylo helps people access the Horizon for the first time, so maybe we can kill two birds with one stone.

Oh, that would be awesome on both fronts! Thancred will be wondering if all this generosity comes with some kind of catch, but he'll owe a favor if that's what it takes to get his hands on some weaponry. 👀 Thanks, welcome committee, I'll have to get threads going with you guys sooner rather than later!

It is smart and valid to inquire about the cost when a supernatural creature is offering you unexpected gifts. Ronan will only be mildly offended if Thancred is doubtful. I'm not sure if Rose will be putting up an open Horizon training log this month but I can get something started for us if not.

They're not the same faction, but Zhou Zishu is here to be snooping everywhere and I would love for spy-to-spy talk some time. Or spy-vs-spy depending on how things shake out.

Oh man, reading your comment for him I think this CR could be really awesome! If their CR turns out positive they could absolutely exchange info, etc... we'll have to see. Let's get them meeting via the Horizon when we can and see where it goes!

Hi there, Court! We know each other from aef and Jen told me you were bringing Thancred in! I wanted to Bother Thandad a lot in the tdm but I was way too busy to reach out beyond what I had. But I'd love to thread w/ you again for sure!

Sadly, Hyth is Solvunn so probably won't be available for any third-degreeing but... if/when that happens I think it'd be terrible and amazing in equal parts.

HI GEN yes I'm here!! I didn't get a chance to hit you up either because I wanted to try and focus in on threads that would be able to remain canon for the most part but here's our chance!

Thancred probably won't know what to make of Hythlodaeus at first, ALTHOUGH he is from a canonpoint where he's probably heard a bit about him through Himeka, I'll have to double-check with Freya on that.

If Hyth is able to use his sight in the Horizon, I think it'd be really neat if he could see how messed up Thancred's aether is and that it's been influenced by Lahabrea's possession, if you're down for it!

Basically for Hyth's approximation of... well, everything, I'm running with Hythlodaeus having a rudimentary knowledge of the sundering because yeah, he was part of Zodiark then and likely felt every bit of the whipping Hydaelyn gave it, and obvi the imprisonment. Zodiark finally being put out of its misery via Fandaniel being Awful would mean, in my head, his memories (Elpis) will have returned... but he's going to be really, really limited with understanding details of Certain Things such as the Plan for the sundered worlds in general, let alone what became of the unsundered Convocation members. ://

So yes, I am down. And I'm more than okay with him picking up little hints of Lahabrea's soul that might be... leftover and dormant after possession :D
