ACTIVITY CHECK: MARCH 2023

Activity Check: March 2023
It's time for activity check! Activity requirements are outlined below. If you have any additional questions, you can reach out to us on the FAQ.

View Activity Requirements
  • Players will be required to link at minimum two threads with a brief summary of what each thread entails. Some months will have specific goals or events where linking extra threads related to those plots will result in extra rewards.

  • There is no minimum comment count for linked threads, since we understand that sometimes threads were started late in the month or are slow for reasons of conflicting availability. That said, we are not a check-in AC game. Submitted threads should indicate some interactivity with another player, and we expect a certain level of overall engagement with the game's plot and playerbase. If we notice a pattern of responding to threads only after the AC post has gone up, making threads solely to fulfill AC requirements, or frequently dropped threads (especially after AC is approved), we will have an individual discussion with the player in question.

  • TDM threads, network threads, and inbox threads are acceptable as proofs for AC, but should not make up the total of both proofs (i.e. your two thread proofs submitted for AC cannot consist only of inbox threads). Further, at least one proof should be a log thread - both proofs cannot be network-style comment spam.

  • Backdated threads from the previous month are acceptable, so long as the comments linked take place during the current AC month and the thread has not been used for a previous AC or for AC rewards. Backdated threads that were started at the end of the previous month are especially fine. If we notice a consistent pattern of backdated threads started at the beginning of the previous month with very sparse comments or regularly dropped threads, then we may have an individual discussion with the player in question.

  • If you plan on using additional threads in a log post or top level to purchase bonus Activity Rewards, please link individual threads when filling out the main Activity Check rather than the entire top level or log, to help us keep track which thread has already been submitted where.

  • You may hiatus once every four months (so, once you use a hiatus, you must make activity for the next three months). If you have extenuating RL circumstances that would require you to hiatus more, please contact the mods. There are no strikes separate from hiatuses, but you are not required to hiatus in advance of AC so if you find yourself without the necessary activity you can use your hiatus pass.

  • Failing to post to AC before closure will count as idling out. If you think you'll be unable to post during this time period or extenuating RL circumstances prevented you from posting please contact the mods.

  1. We will accept Quests as completed as long as the thread is submitted by the end of the March AC period, and consists of a few tags from the characters involved. Please submit your quest threads to us for your reward even if they haven't reached a formal completion point in the thread itself!

  2. If you participated in Part 1 and/or Part 2, you can request a reward gain during any Activity Check before the start of the next main event in June. Though not required, we encourage players to consider a gain that reflects their experiences throughout the event! See Reward Gains for details.

  3. New submissions for Plot Engagement are currently closed. They'll open again once the current event is wrapped.

Character Name: Istredd
Thread 1 Link + Summary: Ciri and Istredd have an aggressive conflict after her ritual. Nero saves him.
Thread 2 Link + Summary: Istredd meets Matt for the first time in an unlikely situation.

Power or physical gain: This is going to be a weird one but Istredd helped open two shrines and he sensed the shrine monster within. The shrine monster had impressive long legs as large as pillars. Connected to this, I would like Istredd to have a type of Elasticity/stretch limb situation where he can stretch his arms up high and make himself taller with his legs. He will not gain superior strength or durability due to this ability, it solely just makes limbs longer. He wants to grab those hard to reach tall books or make himself even taller. He cannot make his limbs shorter or distort them in any other way. He can only start at a foot and steadily gets longer to a maximum of 10 feet. In the start he can only maintain it for about 5 seconds before it snaps back, but with practice it can go up to 5 minutes. Not that he'll want Gumby limbs that long lol.

Notable actions: Istredd became the water boy in the Pit (Nero nickname) by trying to keep their water and food resources organized. He was one of the few who did not get ritualized and then he cured Kell (temporary madness) and cured Steve's mind illness by taking it on himself. He also helped open two shrines and made friends with the mysterious acolyte/agreed to help her escape. In the escape, he stayed behind after protecting Ciri and Caitlyn. 

Character Name: Jayce Talis
Thread 1 Link + Summary: Jayce and Viktor talk about their tech and about the ethics of making Vi weapons.
Thread 2 Link + Summary: Jayce meets Dr. Claire on the network and gives her an update on the conflict with Thorne and FC.

Power or physical gain: Based on his LoL ability To The Skies, I would like Jayce to be able to 'target' someone from a distance and teleport directly to them. It would not be long distances or break any teleporting rules. It has to be within sight line and start out about fifteen feet but with use and training get to as far as he can actually see clearly. It'll never be somewhere he can't see. He would not do any damage with this ability, it is purely a teleport jump to someone he can see. It isn't him stepping through a portal, it would appear like a 'jump' from him to there.

Notable actions: Jayce and Viktor used their tech genius and the help of others running around with receivers to pinpoint where the Lost were kidnapped too. With the help of Stephen and Sam, they found the island! Jayce also went to Solvunn and brought with him a bunch of tools to be a nice guest, and he offered helped gear up everyone going on search/retrieval teams. Jayce went with the retrieval team and will be leaning on the diplomatic side to deal with the conflict.

Character Name: Jesper Fahey
Thread 1 Link + Summary: Jesper asked people on the network to help identify a monster Julie drew that attacked Inej.
Thread 2 Link + Summary: An emotional reunion with the Crows.

Power or physical gain: Keeping with my Rabbit Jesper series, I'm asking for Supernatural Agility. Jesper will find himself with better balance, motor coordination, and reflexes. While at first this will just make it easy for him to not knock his head on the top of a door, eventually it can develop into something similar to Super Parkour where he can climb up walls faster and dramatically swoosh his coat while he dodges obstacles. It will not be the equivalent of a spidey sense or anything, he's just very agile and reactive.

Notable actions:  Jesper killed a lot of bandits and tortured some and then went to Aquila and actually went deep sea diving which tbh is fucking hilarious in retrospect. He eventually went out with the search group to murder more people and save his loved ones. Jesper made a public spectacle of himself by shouting at Thorne that they couldn't have Mat back and implying they were holding Summoned hostage. They said Mat could leave, Mat decided not to leave. This is gonna be great for everyone, totally.

Thread 1 Link + Summary: The world is ending, the devil is learning basic first aid/field medicine from Nadine.
Thread 2 Link + Summary: You ever just kinda sorta try to kill your ally (Kyle) and thankfully get interrupted by someone (Kell), who you were supposed to be rescuing? No? Well. Okay.
Power or physical gain: Going off of the indecipherable network problems, my sense of humor I would like Illusory Script.
Notable actions:
-Breaking down the illusion on the peninsula with Kyle, Yennefer, and Yen's students.
-On the Search team in the mountains to find the Lost Escapees. Technically also brought back an acolyte prisoner (not at all by choice; he did kill the other one).
-Acted as a pseudo-sentry outside the makeshift hospital.

Thread 1 Link + Summary: Kaz alienating Wilhelm
Thread 2 Link + Summary: Not murdering friends of friends. For some reason.

Power or physical gain: Combining that Kaz would focus on what small sciencemagic he knows and the disadvantages he found himself at during their capture, I’d like for Kaz to develop the skills of a heartrender. This would allow him to take control over a person’s organs and cause changes. Speed up or slow a heartbeat. Take the air from their lungs. Cause their organs to release hormones to cause emotions. He’ll have to have his hands free and have full sight of someone to use this on them. Beginning it would be for a limited time before he lost control over his focus on it, no matter how much he’s focusing on. Not long enough to say kill, but enough to knock someone out, or leave them out of breath. With practice and time he would develop much of the same full skills of any trained Grisha of the Corporalki order, though this is much down the road.

Notable actions: Despite his usually singularly focused attention on those that matter to him, Kaz found himself acting more for others in their capture than he’s ever done. Not only in ensuring they had food, such as it was but distributing what he found rather than hoarding it. He was also unable to merely grab his own and go when escape was found, making sure that any near where they found their escape were urged to leave with them. While he left himself rather than staying behind, it’s one of the first times since arriving in the city that Kaz has found himself reaching out to help others in the start of a shift for him due to those he’s known and met here. Not hugely notable but enough for those that might know him - and who doesn’t since he’s one of Jesper’s - may notice that shift.

Power or physical gain: Spell to remove dirt and stains from fabric. Inspired by her adventures during the event wherein she frequently and repeatedly wished that people (and their clothes) were not covered in blood, grime, and/or mushroom goo.
Notable actions: Lenore completely exhausts herself (Turtle prompt and especially the thread with Alucard which is immediately below it) trying to drag summoned and acolytes alike out of the water and onto the turtle, determined to save as many people as she can.
Lenore is also prominently involved in the negotiations for the acolytes' surrender.

Power or physical gain: I never put any future limits for leveling up on his janky goodberry horizon gain and was wondering if I could add to its potency? After how much he's been using them and with this event I'd like for them cure minor cuts and bruises, non-magical headaches, tummy aches and nausea. Per person only the first berry within a 24hr period will have any kind of healing potency (so they can't just eat 10 berries for extra healing).
Notable actions: Kyle did searching through the Thorne wilderness and investigating in Nott with Reno and Natasha. He discovered and helped dispel the illusion on the northern peninsula with Lucifer and Yennefer. He participated in the Search Party up in the mountains and brought back one living acolyte for officials to interrogate. Also, he finally got to visit Solvunn briefly!

Thread 1 Link + Summary: One: Questionable altar inspection with Castiel.
Thread 2 Link + Summary: Two: A discussion with others in the holdout group about making a deal with an Acolyte.

Power or physical gain: This is for the reward/event gain! If possible, I'd like to give him the ability to summon a tiny little stormcloud, just big enough to hover over one person (so about average umbrella size) and then rain on them. I'd love to start off with just being able to produce rain in varying amounts, from a drizzle to a downpour, but then with practice expand to snow and sleet.

Notable actions: Assisted Blake with planting a tracker on an Acolyte. During escape round one he focused on helping native Abraxans escape where possible and holding off some of the Acolytes, ended up with the holdout group in the altar room, and tried to help the Abraxans who were in the middle of the ritual with whatever could be done for them. Later investigated the altar with Castiel, discussed what to do about the possibility of a deal with the Acolyte, and suggested that one of the Abraxans be part of the group the Acolyte sneaks out. He'll also be helping get people who need assistance up on the turtle, Acolytes included, and will later keep up his end of the deal when it comes to vouching for the Acolytes who worked with them, provided no one threw them off the turtle in the meantime.

Thread 1 Link + Summary: one; talking to Nero about shitty parents
Thread 2 Link + Summary: two; letting the work wife know his angel is still stuck in the pit.
Power or physical gain: From the event for his protective nature (re: Rinwell and Ciri), Geralt can summon a wolf to protect someone from a blow or an attack as long as they're nearby. He'll take about half of the damage himself when this happens and the wolf will vanish afterwards. He can't use this to shield himself, only someone else. For Aesthetics, it'll look exactly like his Horizon wolf, but spirit-y. Like translucent-ish.
Notable actions: Geralt's been pretty visible in helping keep people together and alive on the mountains. definitely hasn't hidden his Signs or that he's Witcher-y.

Character Name: Reno
Thread 1 Link + Summary: one; bitching about the cold and low tech, annoying Hilda, soon to fight a big snow bear.
Thread 2 Link + Summary: two; investigating Nott and tricking some thieves for interrogation.
Power or physical gain: From the event: since he was doing so much tracking and sneaking, I want Reno to leave behind a few feet of invisible footprints while he's walking that will shock anyone trying to sneak up behind him. Won't feel worse than a static shock, but it'll make a tiny burst of lightning (no damage, only visual). Its main purpose is just to let him know someone's coming up from behind.

They'll fade after a few minutes or whenever he passes a few feet, the others further back will disappear. He's not gonna know or be able to control this at first, so sorry to anyone just walking up normally behind him to say hi.
Notable actions: Reno did some stuff around Thorne investigating in Nott, including a little breaking and entering, and kicking a couple of thieves. He also?? helped bring back a larva thing...and it hatched. Oh, and then he went off onto the mountains and complained about the weather.

Thread 1 Link + Summary: Caitlyn & Gideon - where Cait is attempting to help a friend of a friend. Fails, but she tried.
Thread 2 Link + Summary: A bunch of people Ciri drags Caitlyn through escaping with the help of Geralt and Istredd. Caitlyn is basically a protesting potato sack by the end. Wheee.
Power or physical gain: I still haven't done her horizon one because I kept putting it off aaaaaah. But actually want to do the event gain this time. Because I have an Idea for that one.

So it's come up quite a few times in her event threads about vision and seeing things and detail work and Sniper Eyes. So I was thinking perhaps something that I can only dub "Telescopic eyes"? Basically just the ability to see things from further away clearer. Starting with the ability to see small details up close better and then eventually upgrading to being able to see things from distances clearly. Like if she were actually looking through a scope, only... without the scope.

Was either that or flipping a coin between Low-Light Vision and Darkvision. But Super Sniper eyes seemed like a good First pick after so many threads of "straining to see details" "focusing on sight" etc.
Notable actions: As one of the few Unaffected, Caitlyn did her best to help keep things running as smoothly (haha) as it possibly could be for everyone in the Pit. Eventually she managed to cure Ciri and while she didn't fully cure Gideon she did ultimately remove the paranoia. (Which was a fun aftermath for her) Did not want to escape in the slightest and actually tried to fight against leaving... ultimately hauled through by Ciri and Geralt with no real say in the matter.

Power or physical gain: I haven't done Claire's Horizon gain yet, but I'd like to use this one! I'd like her to be able to grow a seed into a thriving sapling with a touch. With practice and time, I'd love for her to be able to growth full plant, though the bigger it is and the more she makes, the more it exhausts her.
Notable actions: Claire did as much as she could in helping in any way that others needed her.

Power or physical gain: Shadow walking - With this ability, Alucard can move his own shadow along surfaces, detaching it from himself and 'walking' it up to 500ft away from himself. At the cost of Alucard's physical awareness around his actual body, he can now see and hear things around his shadow as if he was there. His shadow can travel under doors and through cracks, to any space a shadow could slip into. He is able to pull himself to his shadow's new location or recall his shadow back. During use of this ability, wherever Alucard is he will not have a shadow.
Notable actions:
  • Al was active in the investigations carrying over into this month.
  • Al spoke with Sten time discussing the ritual working
  • Al was a part of the rescue group (details forthcoming)

    Thread 1 Link + Summary: Hilda offers to run errands for Viktor and returns with one of the tracking birds for him to work on.
    Thread 2 Link + Summary: Swamp investigations lead to Hilda, Altair, and Wanda adopting some lizards
    Power or physical gain: I'd like Hilda to learn Thunderous Smite. If possible, I'd love for this to evolve into stronger forms of thunder/lightning magic (something similar to Thunderwave or Thoron) somewhere down the line.
    Notable actions: Hilda was a part of several investigations spanning Cadens, the desert, and eventually granted permission to travel to Solvunn briefly with Altair and Wanda to investigate the swamps. As soon as they were able to go to Nocwich, she assisted with putting together first aid kits for those heading out on the retrieval and search teams, as well as small items (think gloves, scarfs, hats) for the escapees that the search teams may have come across. When it was time to head out, she was a part of the search team and got into various (pending) hijinks.

    Power or physical gain:
    I'd like too do something a little weird, if possible! This is a gain I'd like to hold off on Dean receiving for about 6-8 weeks, when we fully conclude the whole Mark of Cain/demon arc I've put everyone through for ages.

    When the time comes for him to be cured of his demon issue, it will be through direct injections of a combination of Geralt and Ciri's blood. What I'd like to do is give him the ability to tap into that! Basically, at times of high adrenaline or stress, for about 10 minutes their blood would kick in and give him Witcher-y physiology & make his eyes go yellow just to be Extra.

    He won't be able to do it on-demand, it'll only last a short time, and after it wears off it'll be like the after-effects of the Haste spell in D&D — he'll be pretty ragged and fatigued for a while.

    Notable actions: Dean's been on a short leash after the events of the raid at the bandit camp and what he did to Jo, but he's still been an active and persistent participant in rescuing the missing Summoned. He's on the recovery team, and joined the gang in their trip to the island, wherein he helped rescue Cas. He then, by all appearances, promptly fucking died.

    Thread 1 Link + Summary: one — investigating a shrine with Louis.
    Thread 2 Link + Summary: two — scoping the tunnels with Jayden.
    Power or physical gain:
    Find Familiar, but specifically with a baby version of Rita, the glowing winged raccoon-moth-dragon thing from his canon. I know you guys mention wanting to know about potential future progression plans for powers, so I was thinking of eventually upgrading it to maybe let him unlock Full Sized Rita for short periods of time in Emergencies — like ten minutes a day or something.

    Notable actions: Insisted on the rescue of the mysterious acolyte and her equally mysterious brother with a very mediocre speech. Helped them get out, struggled through hypothermia on the mountains with the rest of the escapees, and then manifested pudding cups in the hotel hospital for the next week while they cured him.

    Power or physical gain: Considering what he's been through and some of the things that have occurred during times in the pit, I was wondering if I could do something like the following (or tweaked as necessary)
  • Weapon Bond
    You learn a ritual that creates a magical bond between yourself and one weapon. You perform the ritual over the course of 1 hour, which can be done during a short rest. The weapon must be within your reach throughout the ritual, at the conclusion of which you touch the weapon and forge the bond. Once you have bonded a weapon to yourself, you can't be disarmed of that weapon unless you are incapacitated. If it is on the same plane of existence, you can summon that weapon as a bonus action on your turn, causing it to teleport instantly to your hand. You can have up to two bonded weapons, but can summon only one at a time with your bonus action. If you attempt to bond with a third weapon, you must break the bond with one of the other two.

  • I was thinking this could have even happened by accident with the bone weapon he was using in the pit/cave and on the trek down the mountain but could later be replaced with one of his weapons he has back in Cadens. If this is too OP, though, let me know and I can come up with something else!

    Notable actions:
    + one of the many Summoned kidnapped to the Pit.
    + he helped break a lot of the natives and a few Summoned out of their pods
    + helped scavenge for supplies and defended the camps from some monster attacks
    + was among those dragged away for the ritual. Helped with bandaging up wounds on various survivors in the aftermath.
    + part of the group that investigated the boulder and fought the bone serpent, depriving it of several of its limbs (it doesn't like fire! yay!)
    + helped the mysterious acolyte and her brother escape, covering their retreat
    + escaped the pit via the water tunnel route, helped start fires in the cave for survivors to dry off/stay warm.

    Power or physical gain: I want her to be able to learn/manipulate shadow arts (similar to a way of the shadow monk from 5e) so I think I'd like to start with a beginner version of darkness where she can create this effect either by manipulating shadows already in her vicinity or eventually (with more mastery) being able to create the shadows around her/cloak the area in darkness. Range/duration could be reached with practice, starting in a small area around her for only short bursts of time and then increasing to the spell's description of its hold.

    Notable actions:
    + numbered among the spared and not kidnapped by the acolytes.
    + helped organize the information between all three factions and serving as a central point for info to flow in/out of. Had a base set up in sam's domain in the horizon to assemble it all
    + carried out a few investigations on the disappearances in Thorne, working with Kyle, Reno, Lucifer, and Thancred
    + investigated the possibility of contaminated grain sent from Solvunn
    + discovered the involvement of the Creeds in cross-faction trade and the actions of Thorne's resident Creed in the interception and destruction of Thorne's corrupted shipment.
    + involved in the retrieval team sent to get the remaining Lost out of the Pit
    + potentially part of the infiltration team sneaking in as backup and getting the Lost free of the altar room (details still wip)

    Power or physical gain: This is more an extension of her current powers, but due to Julie's extremely close interactions with the Singularity throughout this event, I would like for her to now be able to communicate with it from the real world as well.
    Notable actions:
    + Met with Sten of Luna

    Emotion Absorption: Absorbs an emotions (or emotions) from a source (opt in) for a short period to be used as an advantage (or disadvantage) and to temporarily reduce the emotions from the source. Think dulling the target and increasing those emotions in Blake.

    To start, maybe it's only 25%-50% capacity at most and requires Blake to be in the same room as the person. High end limit to start would be an hour and would leave him physically tired and mentally overwhelmed for a proportionate amount of time after.

    For future gain purposes, eventually would like this to be something that could be engaged from anywhere, maybe even up to 100% for very short bursts. Main goal, really, is to give Blake access to how OTHERS feel while simultaneously making horrible shit feel better for the person he's around. Sort of a monkey paw for the "human after all" trope (since Blake tends to suppress his emotions).

    He wouldn't really know why this is happening to start, or what it means when he finally does realize what it is.

    Premonitions: Eventually meant to mimic those Sam had in the show. He would have no control over when or how, but will be afflicted with visions of the near future (opt-in). To start, he would only be able to see very small "clips" of "a future" that are occasionally too blurry/distorted to make out clearly.

    Over time, for the purpose of future gains, I would eventually like him to be able to see as far ahead as 1 month. Additionally, these should be "most likely outcome" premonitions so there's always an option to disregard premonitions when plans change.
    Notable actions: Sam was part of the infiltration crew and helped retrieve some of the Lost.

    Jo is a tiny girl keeping up with a house full of hella-tall tanks nearly twice her size and has the temper everyone tries to keep from landing on them. She throws a lot of her focus into anger when fighting. I'd like her long-term to get to hit a number of the things in Barbarian starting this time with Rage/Unarmored Defense. Level 1 would give her enhanced strength and durability/resistance to attacks/damage (such as taking half damage compared to those around her).

    I'd like her to slow progress across time into Danger Sense (an uncanny sense of when things nearby aren't right, making you dodge/react faster), Extra Attack/Fast Movement (moving twice as fast/speed & agility/reflexes increases), and Relentless Rage (the ability to keep fighting even after taking grievous wounds).

    Notable actions:
    + Helped Build a Posse to Get Info From The Bandit Camps
    + Came back totally beat to hell; magically wasn't a few days later
    + Tagged Along to Aquila with Sam & Jesper, though it didn't lead to anything

    Thread 2 Link + Summary: --which leads her to team up with Cas and Steve to hold open the webbing so people can escape. They're later given an explosive by Ciri, and whilst this helps them get more people out they wind up covered in spores and unable to make it out themselves.
    Power or physical gain: a while ago she received Rage as an event gain, and if possible I'd like her to continue levelling in a similar way to Barbarian in DnD. For her gain for this event, I'd like her to get something similar to 'unarmoured defence', which would increase her strength and stamina/durability. In the current event she mainly held things open/broke things open/carried people to safety, so a capacity to do similar things for an extended period of time would be fitting!

    Based in the 5e info here, her progress route would be danger sense (she'd be quick to pick up on a dangerous situation, letting her react/warn others quickly), fast movement (increased speed and reflexes), relentless rage (she can keep fighting even when severely injured) and brutal critical (once per fight, she can deal one particularly brutal attack to an enemy. I'd expect this to fail/be unusable in situations where plot demands it though!).

    Happy to take extra input on this! Basically I'm trying to take her down a tank/meat shield route!
    Notable actions: Other than cracking open the wall and holding open the webbing, Gideon also helped pile up bodies with Steve to slow the water seepage situation in the altar room, she backed up Jack in insisting the acolytes should be allowed to escape with them, and passed some info on to Ciri via the network re: the holdout group's situation/location. She's injured by the bone serpant not long before the retrieval team comes, so by this point she just needs to be rescued!

    + Spent a lot of time interviewing locals in Cadens prior to the Lost being located, became more forceful as more time went by— she didn't do any direct harm, but threats were definitely made and she probably would have made good on them if answers hadn't turned up when they did.
    + Continued to lead Horizon patrols (with Hilda) as requested by Sam.
    + Wore one of Viktor's receivers while out with the Search team to allow him to track their location.
    + Wound up bullied into resting at the makeshift hospital after getting caught in the avalanche, but she began resisting and fighting to make herself useful in helping those recovering from more grievous injuries ASAP.

    Power or physical gain: Event gain! Frost, where the main ability will be Claude will be able to make something liquid freeze by touch alone. It'll work on small amounts only like a range of a glass to a pitcher of water or less at first, and then gradually moving up to larger amounts (an average sized puddle, nothing too out there). Occasionally something he touches, like a tabletop or a door/doorway, might abruptly frost or ice over over heavily for a couple minutes until he learns to control it with practice.

    Notable actions:
    - One of the Summoned abducted into the pit
    - Teamed up with Steve Rogers to help others out of their arrival pods
    - Investigated one of the shrines with Gideon where they found there seemed to be some sort of lock on it they couldn't open.
    - Underwent the ritual and dealt with symptoms of rejecting it, do not recommend

    danger detection: when matt lost his enhanced abilities after being taken, he was pretty damn worthless. so, i'd like to give him a beginning form of danger detection where, if something dangerous is within a few feet of matt and they mean him harm, he'll be able to pick up on it and react even if his sense are gone. but they'd have to be close by so any ranged attacks and such wouldn't work.
